@@HydraSpectre1138 And Star vs. the Forces of Evil's Cleaved compelled me to write a much better 5-episode finale for Star vs. the Forces of Evil in case Dominic Bisignano and Daron Nefcy regret turning Star into a force of evil. After Omnitraxus spends his final moments throwing Quasar Caterpillar back in time after she writes down what he says to warn Star Butterfly to not destroy magic, Marco reminds Star why she used to like magic and they team up with Moon, Eclipse, Tom and Hekapoo to find another way to stop Mina. However, even after they stop Mina, Star, Marco and Hekapoo all feel guilty about magic genocide with no remorse because if we want the audience to care what they think about their actions, their guilt will still get to them after Quasar prevented them from doing it. I think one of the root problems is that "Tony" was trying to chase a trend (attempting to make his own Toy Story) rather than come up with an original idea. As Jim Sterling says, "Market leaders _lead._ " This is why Don Bluth's Disney-chasers aren't remembered terribly fondly; this is why all the Shrek knock-offs failed. Sure, you can take an old idea and put your own spin on it. But making "my own version" of Movie XYZ is probably a bad way to start.
I don't think this concept could have _ever_ worked.

Even the most stupid idea can work if they know what to do. Yellow Submarine is extremely nonsensical, but it can be seen as an abstract artwork in motion picture form. Zootopia initially seemed like a typical anthropomorphic adventure but with its metaphor against prejudice and fear, it becomes more poignant over time. And keep in mind, The Lego Movie seemed like a capitalization on nostalgia at first, but then we realized how much of an imaginative idea it was. That's what The Emoji Movie could have been; an bizzare blast, a commentary on creative communication or just a fun fantasy. Nope. All we got was an arduous adventure through advertisements. But hey, at least it properly simulates what it's like to play a low budget mobile game!

A film about Medusa has some potential. I'm not sure if it would've lived up to that potential anyway, but it could've been a really good film. It could've been dark, or it could've been a Hercules-style comedy. I would like to see a film about Medusa, if done by the right people.

They didn't own the film/tv rights when they purchased Marvel because Marvel had previously sold them off to Sony. They bought back the tv rights, the film rights currently seem to be in some sort of weird limbo as Sony and Marvel did a deal to sort of share the character so he could feature in the MCU (Sony still retain full possession of some of the other Spiderman characters though I think). As such, the new animated spiderman film is Sony's project and I presume Disney's influence on it would be pretty small if there is any at all as it's not been made by their studio.

I think The Emoji Movie could have benefitted from an extra year of production, regardless of how fast technology moves. It could have come out in 2018 instead of 2017 and at least have a more coherent plot that doesn't just do what it wants with no regards to consistency. (e.g. Dropbox is secure from Virus Bots and Email is not, Jailbreak has to become the princess she doesn't want to be to save Gene, the emojis need to get past a firewall phone apps should not have, and Smiler wants to take Gene back to Textopolis and shame him instead of just destroying him right away to get rid of his malfunction) If Ralph Breaks the Internet also started production in 2015, then I know that film certainly benefitted well from another year of production because it also had a better plot and more believable characters for whom you can care. Even if the Wreck-it Ralph sequel was made to sell ads, at least it wasn't blatant and transparent about it. February 4, 2020, 4:10pm

I mean you still own the footage you started so why do nothing with it? wouldn't it be cheaper to use existing unfinished footage then to create a brand new project? Also if the rights fell under new management could the movies they stopped get finished? could the script of a movie Sony started and stopped production on be picked up by an other studio? Has that ever happened?

It kinda makes me feel bad for Sony, but still-
Sony's the new Blue Sky. (Although your Ice Age sequels are awful and you cancelled Rio 3, I will still have a sprinkle of respect for you, Blue Sky. Because you made Ferdinand an awesome movie out of one of my favorite childhood books).
Seriously though, I think the only thing that'll bring Sony back to its glory days (although it never really had glory days) is if Sony collaborates with another big company, like Disney or Pixar. Although I doubt it will happen due to Sony's reputation, they could either collab with Illumination, or make an actual decent film based on either an original idea, or something that'll bring viewers in without resulting to cash grabs and cheap stories with clichés.
I think if Sony made a movie out of itself, and parodied itself, then I think that'll make their reputation better, as it shows society how they're aware that they're TERRIBLE. If they did do that, I'd go see it without a second thought.
