Mike Mangini only recorded 3 songs with the band on Waiting For The Punchline after Paul Geary decided to hang up the sticks. Geary decided to go into artist management, partly due to seeing how Extreme was mishandled by managers and record labels. His clients have included Smashing Pumpkins, Alter Bridge, Godsmack, Creed, The Scorpions, Fuel, Steel Panther, Jason Bonham, Billy Ray Cyrus, Hoobastank, Joe Perry ("The Joe Perry Project"), and his former band Extreme.
You gotta love the little technical things they sprinkle throughout, namely at the very end. These guys were really proficient, and you wanna tone it down to play the rock thing, but at some point you just can't help it :)
Anyone know if Nuno was using the vibroverb into Marshall cab setup here, like he did on the album? Looks possible. His tone here (actually everyone's tone in the band) is rippin🎉

It’s mainly in 4/4 but the solo section is mainly in 7/4 I would and then there are some things happening which I’m not too sure of. Sounds polyrhythmic or polymetric perhaps?
@gestalt7756 Well this really is somewhat arbitrary. I usually go by if it feels like an extended 4/4 (in which case it is 7/4) or a shortened 4/4 ( in which case it is 7/8). This is what I based my previous comment on. However, listening to it again now, it is in a way obviously 7/8 since that matches up with the tempo of the song (unless of course, you consider the song leading up to that to be in half time, haha). Of course, many musicians don't bother with this at all, they just say "it's in seven" which is the important thing I think. Regarding hearing the seven I suggest paying extra attention to the bass which plays the exact same two-bar phrase all the way through the solo section. What messes things up a bit, for me at least, are the sections 2:49-2:54 and 3:05-3:10 where the guitar and drums play a different rhythm and possibly different meter as well, making it polyrhythmic or polymetric. Sorry for the long-winded answer.
Gary is a hell of a vocalist. This man never ceases to amaze me with his voice, range, and stage persona. Legend!
2:34 Man, what a killer live performance of that guitar solo! 👍
I’m liking how Mike Mangini is layin down that groove! Kick ass!!🔥🔥🔥
Back then he was a real rocker not that kind of academic brain-driven musician :).
and casually switching between lefty and righty on that kit with two criss-crossed cable hi-hats
Badger’s bass sound is one of the best!
Think we can safely say that Nuno is the most technically gifted guitar player on the planet
Mike did an awesome job on drums, killer song!
Sharing a memory Chris and Selena watched together. Glad to be able to watch something they shared.
I'm here for the same reason :) Selena and Chris forever!
in what interview was this mentioned?
Mangini on a rototom kit was absolutely insane back then.

Best rock band from the 90's. Nuno is phenomenal. Gary was still a good singer.
I don't know why but I'm feeling blessed to see something Selena saw. 💕 Thank you Chris for sharing this sweet moment with us ❤
Mike Mangini 🥁💪🏼👏🏼🥰
This is why i ain't buy that "Mangini doesn't groove" thing... Damn!!! 🔥🔥🔥
Word!!
But not as complex as Portnoy Groove
This was when Mangini was a man playing drum, not a robot playing drums like he plays nowadays

What are you guys talking about?

One day the Extreme guys read Nietzsche and then would write one of the most groundbreaking albums of the 90's. Sadly, not one cared about it.
fucking loved this band since 89' seen them many times, cool dudes
Manginni damn rules!!!
Nuno Bettencourt all day! Hands down 🫡🙌🙌🙌
The most under rated rock vocalist Gary Cherone

kevin leblanc true. He'll always be a funk-metal frontman with groovy raw attitude
Van Halen is one of my favs but can’t beat Metallica😎
Mike..Jhon..James...If you read this...please...return mangini to this sound...Natural, powerful and perfect!!!!
This song is very memorable. My first guitar trophy was coming from the cover I did on this song. Still one of the best bands ever.

Seeing this on TV when I was little kicked my ass.
God damnit this album with Mangini, especially this track - got so fucking heavy. Wish they'd made another with him.
Mangini only played on 3 songs, but it was a heavy album. The label buried it and killed the band.
Mike follow the singer!!! Amazing drummer , !!!!!!!!🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🥁💪💪💪💪💪💪💪🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸

I think its 7/8 mate
