  • Speedy West #2 (From the TV Show "Country Style" 1963-64)
This is just a clip from the TV show Country Style created by
The LeGarde Twins back in 1963-64. We will be posting the full shows soon and Speedy West plays lots of Steel Rides behind a lot of the singers in those shows.
We pulled his feature performances and posted all 7 of them first to kind of wet your whistle. The LeGarde Twins released these shows to our channel and in return I want to promote their incredible book.
The LeGarde Twins "Showbiz Hustlers" it is available through
Amazon.com Their life story is a great read and makes for a perfect gift for all the country music fans out there!
We hope you subscribe to this channel and enjoy these Speedy West performances. Just click on the play list at the end of each song to watch them all... Thanks!

Wow! Just plain Wow! Speedy was one of a kind. I play steel and believe me, he was a master player and truly an innovator. R.I.P. Speedy West.

.I'd like to THANK you personally for posting these very important and essential videos of my Friend and steel guitar Hero at the hight of his musical prowess!
Listing to Speedy and Jerry Byrd is what got me into steel guitar, far away from America. I tried long and hard to play his style, which was so fresh and flamboyant.
I met Speedy at the Texas Steel Guitar Jamboree, I believe in 2000. We both had sandwiches in the hallways out of the convention hall... a few benches away. Him with his wife and family and me alone. I looked over while eating and our eyes crossed and he got up and came over to sit next to me still mulching a his sandwich and said "Hi! I'm Speed'n West!"... I was so stunned, I couldn't reply much more than "I KNOW!". We both laughed. Speedy was not know for his sense of humor in vein... we laughed for 2 hours as he proceeded to just talk from his life like we had left off talking the day before and were old friends.
At the end, he cleared the question of the day, why he had come over to sit and talk with me... I reminded him of of one of his sons who had passed so much, he had to come over and see.
The same afternoon, I was on a pay-phone in the hotel's lobby bragging to a friend in Europe that I had sat with my hero Speedy West, as he walked by. He overheard me convincing my friend that it was indeed Speedy and came again over inquiring what I was talking about mentioning him. While being on the phone with Europe I told him that my friend thought I was "full of it" and he said "gimme that thang and let ME talk to him... "Hi, I'm Speed't West... WHO are you?" :D :D
We ran into each other a few more times over the convention days... I got one picture with him which I cherish in a frame... At his old age and long fight with his ailments he still looked like Speedy West.., just with white hair. Not long thereafter he passed.
I feel blessed to have known him as a "buddy" if only for a weekend. No "Star"-attitudes, just a steel guitar buddy with a sense of humor and a big heart.
