In the mid 90s my stock 305 TPI IROC ran 15.30s with free mods. On regular old Dunlop street radials. I did a few small things to it and got it to 15.teens I swapped in a stock 87 L98, it instantly went 14.60s I ended up going 13.00s with that L98, cam only + bolt ons. It was still TPI and factory 3.23 gears. It ended up going 12.57 and 12.61 best on a set of slicks and front runners. This was all Circa 1997-1999.
Sweet!! I have a similar 87 Z28 with a 305. Edelbrock 650 carb and Flowmaster dual exhaust. It's coming along pretty good, maybe 172 hp. It's fun! Hello from Canada!! 🇨🇦🇨🇦
Nice content that you're doing my 1985 Z28 305 with 323 gears stock transmission around a 15-6 quarter mile I would think yours would be faster keep going with your mods I'll be checking and seeing how it goes have fun
Yeah I plan on swapping my 85 S10 to a 305v8 and kind of the same reasons cause cor 1 is because nobody wants them and they're cheap to pick up in good shape vs a 350v8 everybody wants crazy money for it just like an LS but I'm not a LS guy at all I don't want anything to do with them not for a s10 that is at all. It's just way over done so it gets boring but what you have and what I'm gonna do with mine is what I like to watch so definitely can't wait to see more of this!
Seen a 305 with 419HP using stock short block with Vortec Heads (reworked springs and seats) and a set of small tube headers. It had a Edelbrock Performer RPM and 750cfm Holley. I don't remember what cam it had but I know it was a normal flat tappet with the matching springs that the cam called for. I was surprised to see over 400 HP from a 305. Building a 305 only makes sense if you have a good running one already that isn't going to see super high extended RPM. The work and cost could be better suited for a 350, 383, or 400. I suppose a 377 destroker if you wanted to mix it up.
Running 10 with an old school street car will be very hard and with a 305 very, very hard and will cost a lot of money. But hey it is only money, it is not worth anything till you spend it.
I wanted to be different. I had heard a 202 valve head will not fit a 305. Then I heard it will but once you take advantage of the capability of the bigger valves with a bigger cam, anything over .400 lift, the valves will hit the cylinder wall. So I went with a 307. They can handle the 202 valve head. I'm putting a thumpr cam in it. I don't yet have a 202 head to go on it but 882 heads ought to work. Plus the 307 will go in front of a 350 transmission and limited slip and 373 gears in my 76 Laguna. Thanks for sharing.
vortec heads are the magic, cheap ,easy to find and make gobs of power (1997-2000 350 trucks have them) you will need a vortec specific intake though...best cast iron stock chevy sbc head ever made
@@chrisharriman9017 what stock can I put on the 307? I'm looking to at least get 200 horsepower. More or less. Vortec heads are priced like gold. I don't have that kind of money. I may or may not have track day with it. But otherwise just looking to enjoy my build. I got shorty headers and a air gap intake for it with 800 cfm quadrajet and hei ignition. And like I mentioned, a .479 lift thumpr cam. Any idea what heads might get me close or over 200 horsepower mark? Anything other than vortec heads I mean.
I'm actually on a similar mission as far as trying to make power with a 305. My plan is to put a turbo on a stock 305 and go from there. Its going to be in a 81 chevy pickup. Anyway, I'm going to be checking out your progress on this, maybe I can learn something. I've been messing with small blocks for 20 years but I've never tried to make a 305 do anything except bones stock rebuilds.
I love seeing old school souped up 305, id like see same thing done, as you said on 350, also iam thinking lower 15s upper 14s maybe Well i was close lol stock 305 probably mid 16s or low 17s
305 club here.....im not in the 10s yet but ive got a decent cam (.450/460 out of a 290 horsepower crate 350) touched up 350 vortec heads with ls6 springs,comp retainers etcedlebrock rpm intake for vortec heads,650 dp ultra,hooker headers,dougs y pipe,magnaflow cat and catback,3.27" rear out of a gta.....and a glass t5 lol its a fun car(86 t/a)
I agree but the stock heads don’t flow very well and cam is tiny. Keep a eye out for next video coming out I swap heads out for a set of 081s. car also weighs 3560 with me in it.
How fast... it isn't at all.. not without a 250 shot... yup I've been there done that... 305 tbi... gears. Posi stall every bolt on known to man including roller rockers and springs... 250 shot wet kit custom build... was fun 20 years ago... still a turd today

Love the 305 upgrade plan! Good luck! I have an 82 Trans Am with a Pontiac 301 that I plan to build up on my channel.
This an interesting approach, looking forward to following!
These 3rd generation Camaro and Firebird are affordable for both collectors and customizers

a mildly built 305 in an s10 would be loads of fun
love the channel my man
Car looks great, love these thirdgens, fun to drive. Carcraft magazine got 300 hp and 400 ft/lbs out of a 305 with bolt ons. Very reliable motor.

Build a 334, 205cc heads, solid roller cam, splayed 4 bolt caps, and gears, she'll dip in the 10s💯
Yup, that's why I had kids, mow the grass and wash daddy's cars, 👍👍😎😎💯
I had 2 305 trucks, yea not the fastest but still fun. It is hard to build power on a 305 and it is fun telling people its something nobody does.
There’s a reason you haven’t seen many /any 10-sec 305s….how much money do you think it’ll take to get this boat into the 10s with a 305?…
$1500 dollars in a 305 to make it 10 sec boat subscribe so you can see the 305 I put together over the winter to make it happen.
@@Krikkebobbyracingchannel you got it….good luck

Are those 10” wheels in the back? 8” in the front?
15x8 in back 15x4.5 front
You’re gonna be just a smidge over 200hp with addons. But not much more lol
It'll be more than that. Lol
