I have never met anyone who seems to eager to express his thoughts as much as him, and his drawings are quite artistic in space and movement... I see an intelligent person, regardless his mental health
He looks like what he was having was a spiritual awakening which is consider by doctors as a mental illness when is not.

Same. It can be very easy to lie to yourself and pathologize yourself as an excuse to be lazy, selfish, or arrogant. This shows his humility and apprehensiveness at accepting his illness in a way that would foster this sort of thinking. very intelligent guy. At least that's how I've interpreted it.

@@Aretiarcticmonkeys For you and the comment above, the original poster of the video said that the translation from French to english is not very accurate and that he had to make sense of some incoherence in his speech. He was medically diagnosed, and may seem normal to us, but it's foolish to assume so. He is an intelligent guy but we don't know the whole story.
That's not what "playing doctor" means.
The “crazy” people back then were more lucid, articulate, and dignified than most “normal” people today.

We are about the same age and I relate to this guy on another level. I just recently came out of a psychotic episode that lasted around 1.5 years. I lost my memory, my feeling for time and even reality and was very paranoid most of the time. I had to drop out of high school 2 months before graduation because the hallucinations and delusions were too much to handle. I thought I was the devil, I thought that my family were clones. I am still not fully recovered but I learned a lot and I'm slowly starting to feel 'normal' again. I will start an online program to graduate from home in 3 days and I hope to be able to study criminology in the future. To everybody currently struggeling, don't give up on yourself, it gets better. To friends and family members of people with psychosis: don't give up on them, it may seem like you lost your loved one but they are in there. Much love to all ♡

How are you doing? I went through somewhat of a same experience I won't say I had a psychotic episode as I wasn't admitted to a hospital and didn't look professional help, not at the time at least. I smoked laced weed with PCP and for half a year I wasn't the same person I felt I wasn't in control of my thoughts and actions it was terrifying. I dropped out of high school my junior year following that but now I'm much better started college early January this year about to finish my first semester. Hope things continue to get better for you and anyone else going through the same experience.

It's interesting, almost comical that at 0:20 he says "That's all I have to say" but then starts what turns into a 9 minute quasi monologue - really interesting and reflected guy though, very pleasant speaker, I really hope he managed to get the treatment he needs and was able to live a fulfilled life!

the world fails people like this. highly intelligent, well spoken people, who simply needed help with finding direction in life due to things out of their control. i get sad thinking of all the people who seek help, just to be turned away and become even more insane than going in simply because, there aren’t enough people who truly care, or at least, that’s the world we live in even today.

More than true. One more cent to add, the present world is actually _very_ incompetent when it comes to helping people such as this, they don't know or understand a thing they're doing, sadly. I believe they lack the capacities to do so as of now.
Most people diagnosed as insane or crazy are, in fact, extremely intelligent. I joke that when one gets smart enough to start truly understanding all the mysteries of life, whatever it is they come to understand breaks the mind because it is far too unpleasant or disturbing for the human mind’s ability to deal with.
@@Valdeceata i believe that as well. i was telling my brother last night actually that i wish school taught us about the human species itself more. more than evolution. in depth about the human mind and why we feel disturbing or happy thoughts, because i figure, people just don’t know enough. even those who are meant to help people with mental health, i’ve struggled all my life and have had little help from people solely because, they didn’t know themselves how to handle it. but again, people don’t seem to care enough unless they are the ones experiencing it or are affected by it.
it’s heartbreaking i think about this everyday.

I write fiction, it's invaluable if you want to actually write a character with mental illlness (I wouldn't as a protagonist, at least not mental illness at this level, but I might for a peripheral character)

No, it is not an example of _tangential speech_ (and it's not _tangential __*_speak_* ) - so right out of the box you have proceeded inaccurately .
The young man is speaking coherently and demonstrating logical and deductive thinking, including self-awareness of both his present state, as well as his hopes for the future - he even analyzes his drawings with thematic inference; so you are entirely off-base and _playing_ diagnostically with psychiatric classifications.
Let me spell it out for you - tangential speech or tangentiality is a communication disorder in which the train of thought wanders and demonstrates a lack of focus, and importantly, *never* returns to the initial topic of the conversation.
Now, go read some Alfred Adler or Benjamin Rush for a refresher course in psychoanalysis & psychiatric therapy.

Because i’am and after watching the video again with the subtiles : i noticed that they were giving more "reasonable talk » to this kid than he actually says in French, actually sometimes the subtiles says something enterily different, which is commercial honestly. There is indeed many moments in this interview when the focus and his train of thought goes in many directions without any conclusion or even rational ending. It doesn’t stop during many moments. I’m pretty sure he’s more stable during this interview, but we can « imagine » what his speech was like before. He goes from one symbol to another and never truly explain (meaning he kinda thinks we already adresse familiar with his ésotérique thinking or doesn’t bother/or think about being really being understood). But you’d have to be familiar with french as a language and all it’s symbolical meanings to notice i guess...
@Thomas Dupont You're absolutely correct. It is a very difficult task to translate non-coherent/non-linear speech. It would require a much greater level of fluency than I possess, and also would be helpful for someone to have studied the theory of translation...Should a translation be as true as possible and literal, should it rather try to convey a similar message while allowing for deviations in literal meaning, or should it aim to capture the spirit/essence/emotion of the source instead?
Indeed I often defaulted to trying to "make sense" of what he says, and probably took some liberties. If you have suggestions on how to improve the translation please let me know.

He contradicts himself a lot and is extremely self critical but self aware. I believe he just needed to learn how to cope with his illness that is really something that most people that are sick, can’t do.
To be honest I wouldn't have thought he was having a psychotic episode if he was talking to me like that. Fascinating.

I will react to this! One who is psychotic usually is not aware & thinks they are fine. To assume is as close to error as error gets. Identity crisis is not necessarily psychotic but it could lead to such a diagnosis.

This guy is a perfect example of how we can all come back from something traumatic. Dude was literally losing his mind but fought to get it back, and you can tell how damaged he was just by how aware he is of what he’s saying possibly sounding crazy because it messed up the trust he has with his mind.
Edit: The translation and American romanticism of the French language probably do play a part on my assumption. Nevertheless, he clearly wasn’t completely well yet and don’t know the whole story (or if it’s even been told) but would hope that he came out alright.
You only say that because you don't understand how crazy he sounds in French. He's just rambling. For you it's a nice story to read. But to listen to in French it's clear he's crazy. He starts out saying what he thinks will help him, but never stops talking, speaking in a monotone with no self-expression, and reveals his tortured mind through a monotonous monologue.

There are moments in which his eyes look so sad. Just his eyes say: 'Help me' and things he talks about don't even matter. To me it seems like people like this have a soul that is hurting trapped inside a crazy mind that just goes in circles. I have no doubt that people like him can be dangerous but they are actually in invisible hell.
I can feel for him, because I have been there. You are being (and feeling like) a slave of your own mind. Like your mind rules you, not the opposite. You feel detached and at the same time embarassed because you know that people have no clue what is going on with you.

Those words they’ve said, still haunts me. I’m not a bad person cuz of my mental illness. It doesn’t mean I’m gonna hurt anyone. The only thing it did was hurting myself, physically, and mentally.
You guys are so much more understanding than anyone I’ve met in my life that wasn’t my best friends of many years. This is what I want, ending the stigma. Restored my faith in humanity.

Very interesting. So the car accident was his disillusion. There was no accident and this psychotic episode was caused from a bad trip on psychedelic drugs and intoxication. So interesting to hear him speak - he’s very paranoid and his monotone ramblings sound very strange in French. Drugs are crazy sometimes...

he is such a sensitive, beautiful young man, his drawings clear and very artistic. his metaphor for becoming a new self was very deep inside emotionally - a seed growing from his heart to become a growing new life. i do hope he continued his medication and was able to leave the hospital. he’s such a great guy! - the kind a guy i would have fallen for (i think we’re about the same age, too :)🌷🌱
What a pure quest this highly intelligent gentleman is on. This video shouldn't be published though as he clearly doesn't give his consent for that. I wished he received what he asked, his girlfriend and his bike. Definetely not crazy, but absorbed and hypnotized by his own conditioned thinking. Much love and blessings to him.

Been following channels like this lately and one idea that suddenly occurred to me is how we (the rest of us) tend to view people like him as just a confused object, whereas now I'm beginning to realize that they see things about life and this world which we don't see. I find that an extremely interesting and fascinating idea, like as if you know someone that always likes to spend time in their bedroom closet - we would just think that's weird - until he allows you in and you enter a whole other large room with all kinds of interesting things, some of it you don't yet understand. I wish we could all be naturally dynamic in our group thinking to be able to appreciate these differences.
He has a clear brain injury from that car wreck. I know someone who had a car wreck and It was just like this. His thoughts were everywhere. He later had brain surgery and had a stroke on the table. It's an awful thing to happen.
Might be the overconsumption of hashish during young age. He speak about it but it’s not clear if he was addict or not. Is this car accident even real ?
@@Aurek22 I doubt the car crash is real, its says in the description that he was admitted to the hospital after an episode related to intoxication. Too much LSD or some other psychedelic I am guessing.
This comment section is freaking amazing! All of you that DO realize the Truth of things. Please please eventually come into your personal power and STEP UP for the world. For the newer generation of consciousness to come forth. So that we can eventually have a revolution of change that ACTUALLY BENEFITS HUMANKIND rather than make things worse like the ones before us have. P.S. this psychologist didn't even know how to honour healthy boundaries. And to respect this person anymore just because he has even more awareness and insight into his inner world. This is the imperfection of being human. And those of us that are more aware, never ever let this effed up society take that Light away!!!🎉
I suffer from anxiety and my mind works just like his...not sure whether I sound the same or not. I often go off on tangents like this, probably not as bad but I find all sorts of connections that make ppl confused and not able to keep up. And if I don't speak all that out loud, the word vomit stays inside of my head, while I work, while I speak to ppl, it has no problem running in the background.
It’s remarkable how significantly a single trauma can affect someone, even subconsciously. I was in a car crash a few months ago - I was okay, no major injuries. Even though I waved it off at the time as insignificant, my anxiety and OCD grew greatly from this, to the point of being obsessionally fearful of my family’s safety, insomnia etc.
I hope this man managed to feel healthy and happy again. Also, on a side note, I was very impressed with his vocabulary and how he expressed himself.
Plus he is a great artist.

I think I had delirium 2 months ago. It wasn't psychosis but it feels like it but is not. I wasn't getting sleep for a few days because I ran out of meds for 3 days and was taking abilify I wasn't supposed to and I started having these extremely vivid dreams that turned into reality where I thought I was talking to old friends and family members, my sister, and mother. I went to the hospital right away and blacked out ahd started doing stuff I had NO idea I was doing. It was crazy. I spent four days in the hospital. two days out of the four feeling out of it and my meds taking time to work. I felt okay on the third day and definitely the day I was getting ready to leave. My mother returned back home but doesn't matter anyways because she's verbally abusive and an alcoholic. I had to stay stuck with her because I couldn't work after college due to depression getting severe plus severe anxiety (panic disorders) so I was afraid to live by myself due to the abuse she caused when I was younger. I hate her for what she did and how she ruined me and my sister's life but I ask God please forgive me and help me change and to bless her.

Wow. He is so much better in this video. In the first one, he could only answer yes or no questions and often his answers were simply a response regardless of whether he understood or not. His mannerisms were uncontrollable. He could not utter a sentence. It's truly remarkable to amount of progress shown here.

Sauf que ce jeune-là explique clairement que du fait de son éducation, il n'aime pas l'argot, car ses parents lui ont interdit de le parler. On ne peut donc pas dire qu'il soit représentatif de sa génération ! Et puis on adapte son niveau de langue quand on s'adresse à une figure d'autorité.
Son langage policé est apaisant ...mais questionnant car il semble surtout profondément conditionné à tout retenir à l’intérieur.
Le langage que qui que ce soit utilise n'est pas important, tant qu'on arrive a se comprendre

A lot of what he says sounds like the way all teenagers feel. I understand that his issues are a lot more serious than the horrible feelings that we go through as adolescence. But he makes so much sense. I really feel for this guy.
i know that nobody's going to beleve me but i strugle every day with thoughts and feelings just like his . i've never seen anyone describe something so similar and vivid like my experiences. I have tried to expres how feel to my closest friends without sounding crazy but i couldnt put it into words . It's shockingly comforting to see that other ppl with those feelings exist.
You're definitely not alone. I watched this whole thing waiting for him to say something outlandish. But he speaks quite normally to me. Some of his thoughts are similar to mine. Now I'm starting to have anxiety while thinking: "Maybe I'm having a psychotic episode. Or my mental health is deteriorating."

Back in the 1970's, people got intoxicated to experience a lot of different psychotic things..... it was a spiritual experience for many and still is practiced by some cultures.
Reading the comments, I think most viewers are not really understanding how messed-up this guy is. While he appears calm and well-spoken, he's rambling around through multiple disconnected subjects even while finding illogical connections with others. He reminds me of a bipolar friend I knew 40+ years ago who would go through similar phases; sometimes she was clearly manic and frenzied, while at other times she could seem rational the way this guy mostly does, even though she really wasn't, unfortunately.
@@AlbertBradberry She went in and out of mental hospitals after being married and divorced, and having a child. I lost touch with her many years ago.

PTSD can have associated psychosis. Not sure the psychiatrists and psychologists understood PTSD or how to treat it very well back then.
Hope he was able to heal and is continuing to have a fulfilling life.

@@maggiemae7539 Maybe on a basic level. However, it wasn’t added to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual (DSM-III) until 1980 - more than 100 years later.
The definition of trauma (a severe, catastrophic stressor outside the individual) and how that can affect a person psychologically (overwhelming the individual’s ability to adapt) has not been fully addressed until recently.
Our treatment methods have also improved over time. The most successful interventions have been shown to be cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and medication, neither of which existed during the Civil War. CBT was just being developed during the 1960’s - around the time or just after this was recorded.
SSRIs such as Prozac didn’t become available until the late 80s. Prior to that, anti-depressants had many undesirable side effects.
They still are not great at treating any mental illness. Most of it is brought on my trauma , drugs or medications.
8:31 - Art therapy can express what a patient cannot say in words. I've done it myself and found it greatly helpful. It looks like this young man did, too. 🎨🖌😊

The young adult is quite intelligent, lucid, and deeply introspective. He is not under the severe antipsychotic meds, that render a person , a zombie, or vegetable. Antipsychotics are extremely toxic to the brain. Thankfully, the patient is awake, alert, and very, very smart. Hope he went on to live a productive and happy life. He seems proud of his parents.
I tried to find out what had happened to him but couldn’t find really anything other than the year of this interview and his possible name. It’s as if he never existed.
Meds do not make all people a vegetable - for some it is the only way they can live. Please do not say such things that frighten people who may need to try them.
@@audreyh6628 please research: " Tardive Dyskinesia, Akathisia, CNS destruction, tics, spasms, Parkinson's due to toxic antipsychotics. These are only a few of disastrous drugs forced in patients. So that psychiatrists stay in a power position, yet guilty of ruining many many lives.
He was locked up for having a trip and getting caught.. I have a feeling the car accident has very little to do with this.

TW about this specific dream, but I got kidnapped and was in my own neighborhood. They were gonna S/A me and I said if they were to do that, do it to my dead body. I couldn’t bare doing it again. So they shot me. Right in the head. I wanted to live but there was no other escape. I was more than terrified. When I woke up I didn’t sleep much for awhile after that.
So, I can die in my dreams and still keep dreaming.
I’m at the point I don’t even wanna run anymore, I’ll just deal with it. Run me over again, shoot me again, idc anymore. I’m done running.
Is this psychosis? Maybe it’s the language barrier, but to me, it sounded like the musings of an intelligent and analytical mind. There were clearly lots of times where the questions being asked of him were cut out, making this sound like rambling when in fact I think his thoughts were provoking and clever. There were times I felt he was being too hard on himself, maybe. I understand that the subtitles may not have conveyed his “madness” as acutely as a native French speaker would have had this “madness” conveyed, but I found him to be introspective, intelligent and interesting. Maybe he is a bit mad. Maybe I’m a bit mad. Maybe we all have our own brand of madness? I found his thoughts to be at times poignant and beautiful. Maybe there is a small bit of beauty in madness.
We are all insane in some way :)

Es cierto, tbien al observar el dibujo que hace nos damos cuenta que tiene trazos distintos que tmb son parte de estudios psiquiatricos, no soy experta en esto pero se que las personas así suelen trazar sus dibujos algo diferentes.
Wow, all we need is Love. He just needs somebody to believe in him so he can believe in himself, to trust himself, to understand himself better. I loved when he said "I had to fight with my inner self ...my conscious need to appear normal and my subconscious need to express myself." The subconscious mind always wins as it is automatic, we have no control over it except through the conscious mind. Wow, if he was allowed to express himself without judgement, he would satisfy that need and there would be no such conflict. If that video was that old, I don't think that this would have been the case. When was this recorded? Any more information?

Bien plus cohérent que la plupart des gens qui obéissent aveuglément, sans se poser de questions, à une société aussi paradoxale et manipulatrice telle que nous la vivons actuellement... Ce n'est pas à partir du langage employé que l'on peut jugé de la cohérence d'un individu car le langage ici employé révéle d'une authenticité dont peu savent faire preuve.
Alors quand on est un professionnel de la psychiatrie on remarque tout de suite le problème de la fuite des idées.
@@virginiefournier7112 Cette fameuse fuite des idées est liée à un mécanisme d'associations des idées par symbolisme (celle du narrateur) accentuée pat une vitesse de traitement de l'information au dessus de la moyenne. Ces patients qui peinent à s'équilibrer car hypersensibles sont en fait plus intelligents que la moyenne... Ce qui les entoure n'ayant aucune cohérence est perturbant pour eux jusqu'à la... fuite de leur esprit car cela est insoutenable pour eux.

20 years ago, i was victim of sexual abuse. 5 years ago i was the abuser, unable to perceive it as my mind was deranged. 1 year ago i turned all my friends and ex gf, to become my enemies. 1 minute ago, i saw this young guy, fighting his demons, looking like Jesus. And i think when that seed of evil rooted in me and made me rotten. This young man fight his devils with drawing; few years ago my writings were sadomasochistic bullcrap which now serve me to see how demented i became, only because i never seeked help for my issues.
To anyone who reads this: suicide is not an option. Strive for better and fix your life before you become abuser. This young man may have different issues than mine (i have severe personality disorders cocktail), but he changed my life.

@@alexandra_9732 lamentablemente el accidente nunca sucedió y el ritmo de su discurso, si bien rico y articulado, en su idioma no es normal. Da muchas vueltas y se pierde en lo que dice sin parar de hablar como un niño. Sospecho que la traducción en español para nosotros, al igual que la que está disponible en inglés lo hace parecer más coherente de lo que se muestra. Por ahí leí en los comentarios del publicador del video que traducir exacto es difícil. Pero yo me sentí exactamente igual que vos cuando empecé a ver el video. Es durísimo descubrir que en verdad está teniendo tremendo episodio.
No hay que romantizar la paranoia o la psicosis. No hay que romantizarlo por muy correcto o poético que se ve desde fuera , los episodios dados en privacidad o los ataques , no son para nada una alegría. Cuando tienes algún "desequilibrio" mucha gente se aleja de ti o te Dan de lado. O te juzgan sin apenas conocerte. Es difícil entender a los demás y que te entienda a ti. Una enfermedad o desequilibrio mental es algo duro . Aveces te sientes muy solo

Head trauma can cause psychosis. He had an accident, which I'm sure meant his brain was hit pretty hard. As his brain healed, literally, his psychosis diminished and hopefully fully went away.
7:53- I have felt like that for sure! He most definitely spoke some profound truths... even if he was diagnosed as mentally ill. I'd say most people in society are not truly right in the head. They're just better at pretending.
That's because of the systems that are in place. Humans live a very unnatural life in this day and age. No wonder people get ill from it
