- Today we sat down with Ryan and his awesome MK7 Performance Pack GTI that was converted into a European Clubsport GTI. This makes 400 WHP and has been raced for most of its life. He layed down a burnout for us, did some highway pulls, 0-60, and more.. He drives this car like he is never going to see it again.

RJ!!! He is a longtime staple in the MK7 GTI community. Always very helpful and informative posts, where he speaks from experience.
Very cool that DAP produced this video.
VW love, from Texas 💪❤️🔧🇩🇪
Cruised with this guy to Waterfest a couple years ago, cool dude and awesome car.
This is the exact video I needed! Just bought a 2017 GTI as a CPO from my local VW, I have an APR stage 1 ECU & TCU tune scheduled for tomorrow and was worried about reliability. I do routine services every 5k miles, so hearing that these are overbuilt and just maintain them properly and they will love you back makes me feel a weight off my shoulders!
Dont be, I have been on stock clutch mt with stage 1 for 20k with no issues. Currently at 50k and never had an issue whatsoever.
@@TheFlyingPLiner did you do the high torque or low torque map?
High torque, 91 map.
I got that 91 Oct stage 3 And I beat a Camaro SS 😄
Those stock DSG clutches are impressive for how much power they can handle!
Doooooooope! Everything flows so well on that car, love it!
Great job RJ. Good luck with the sale.
I'm drooling over the stance of this car!
Great Job on your build .
Just bought a 2018 GTI - fun to come!
That GTI decal on the engine cover looks fantastic.
dang. those quarter miles times are impressive let alone being just fwd
I am surprised I haven't seen this car around. He is in my neck of the woods. Sweet car,
Awesome video! Love my VW as well. It's an MK5 though. 12 years of ownership this year. Daily driven, and i drive it with my 1 year old and 6 year old little girls. Has catless downpipe with muffler delete. PTE5858 big turbo. Can't complain. Loud, but my 1 year old could still fall asleep while driving it.
That's what the GTI is all about! Responsible family car that you can still have a ton of fun in.
As a japanese car guy I cant argue with the direction VW is taking with its performance models, from an engineering perspective. Dsg or DCT transmission cars is the way to go.
Then TCU tuning that DSG with TVS Engineering & ECU tune it to Stage 2 with Revo or EQT good sir! 👌
Love it, my fav front wheel drive car
Will be getting a golf soon can’t wait!
Love the wheels man!
Looks awesome... I so want that conversion on my 17'
That Golf has some 💪 for sure. When can we see the 400 hp Alltrack?
Beautiful car man enjoy it
I have a 2016 Seat Cupra 290 and it also has the same golf r engine with DCC as standard plus it has the e-diff which is really nice, the dsg upshift bangs are very addictive and it is great fun to drive.
I don’t have a GTI, just the basic Golf, but I’ve loved modifying it. I’ll probably never get it to the point of Clubsport, but it is a fun car to drive and play with.
1.4 or 1.8?
@@kevs2good133 mine has the 1.8, basically the same as the 2.0 in GTIs, just slightly different internally.
3:40 that shot with the balloons flying away was tight!
dorkultra no it wasnt
Wow, never knew the Clubsport came with the engine upgrades of the R as well as the IS38! Impressive the stock clutch is holding up so well.
remember it's a DSG, so stock DSG clutch pack
Yea I thought it was a manual but its a DSG clutch hes referring to, and they are more stout.
The DSG can hold upwards of 500 lb ft of torque before the discs begin to slip.
Beautiful & the best Golf ever. (I have the original EU-model Clubsport DSG, same color)..
WTF is that in the air at 03:40.. runaway balloons perhaps..?
This dude is awesome and his car is bad ass
This was an awesome build. Even though I am not really a hot hatch guy as I am old AF this is a great looking GTI for sure. I like. So you guys have to know I have starting to have some SERIOUS plans regarding my Mk7 GLI after that spring install David did for me @DAPRepair. Yes I recognized your voice on this video David, you sir are a badass auto tech! Still highly impressed on how fast you did the lowering springs on mah bebe a couple of weeks ago. Looks like depending on the schedule I will be down to chat about future plans for the GLI and put some more goodies on her next week sometime. I think when I am ready and out of warranty or close to it I will go full ham and do the stage 3 IS38 swap and get an aftermarket clutch and more serious track upgrades installed.
Just recently bought a Mk7 GTI and after seeing this video it has taken alot of weight off my shoulders to know that the GTI's are far more tolerable... I come from owning a B7 S4 with a 4.2 V8, and you don't realize how much ptsd you get from the constant issues and catastrophic failures LOL.
One of my buddies has a B7 S4. Beautiful car. Sounds amazing. But he is always wrenching on it maintenance wise.
Had the balls driven off of it.....Wicked!
Club Sport in the US! Very cool.
A front bumper doesnt make it a "clubsport conversion"
I was looking for this comment 😂😂.
I was going to say the same thing. This is not a Clubsport.
the bumper doesnt look like it even fits the car, he says its oem but it fits like an ebay part.
@@shredmonster76 I think the bumpers that DAP sell are OEM
Clubsport chassis is also lighter
Hello can you guys announce when the cruise event from the preview video is going to happened and how to get in ? Thank u
VW GTi CLUBSPORT S IS THE ULTIMATE GTI IN THE GAME #CHANGEMYMIND
Front brake may be more affective on tts calipers 4 piston and 340mm clubsport disk.
So fast so Furious!
Man his steering wheel is shiny!!!
I live in the eu and im a proud owner of a real clubsport from factory
Same here, with full custom catback! Sounds Glorious! Check videos on my channel mate! 👍
Can't wait to get my Alltrack to 300whp via tune, downpipe and IS20. Any faster than that and I'd have to get the lawyer's involved on a regular basis.
My alltrack slow... jus jb4 so far
93? We don’t even put this in our lawnmower..thank God for RON101
I got a MK5 Jetta 2.0T i'm tuning and slamming but in bout 2 years i'm looking to get a second Volkswagen maybe a GTI
thats a super sweet GTI..
Those new, faster Megane Trophy R’s are firckin sweet but for the price this is way better. I’m not a fan of the new Mk8 aesthetics and it’s slower. I hope to mod my Mk6 Golf TDI into a sub 8min Nurburgring car and take it there one day.
That clubsport bumper looks sick! I need to get those side decals for my mk7.5 R lol.
you can get them on ebay from Germany
Hey Ryan i have the same Enkie wheels on my GTI running a 255/35 series tire. Curious if you added spacers to the rear to flush out the back. The car looks great man!
Wow so you VW GTi guys can run a 255 tire?
I want more information on the jb4 file please? What fuel was in the car on dyno? My MK7.5 GTI on 93 octane has a touch over 400hp at engine. About 350 WHP. Of course more torque. I track mine on road courses and started modding mine one month after I bought it new. I have the IS38 also. Thanks
This is why I like VW lol
vw are amazing man
@@skiptonn They know were to spend the money! From GTI Clubsport owner. Check my channel! 👍
super accelerated maintenance with low miles FTW.
Oil change every 2,500 Miles or 4,000 KM OEM recommended 15,000 KM
DSG fluid change every 10,000 miles or 16,000 KM OEM recommended 80,000 KM
The car was sitting at 34,600 miles ~ 55,360 KM @ 1.38
my 2015 VW GTI 3 door Performance edition is sitting at 93K km with stage 1 tune from unitronic at 20k KM. I've been doing oil changes every 8K km and transmission fluid changes every 50k KM.
Tune but increase the maintenance cycle!
Owning your love of an automatic, I dig it. Am tired of the manual guys thinking auto guys are not real drivers, real enthusiasts. Like you, I love my manual too, but autos do it all better. Driving is about the gas, brake and wheel...no clutch pedal needed. Real cool car, too!!!! I have a GLI S w DSG...mainly due my kids as well.
And DSG is better for engine, also you can TCU tune the automatic transmission making it even faster/better & more reliable.
I didn't even know these came in a 4D version
For reference the Clubsport S (310PS) broke the record twice at the Nordschleife, not the Clubsport (265PS). This car is not a Clubsport S.
Isnt this the one for sale on facebook marketplace? Didnt I ask you for pictures of the interior
where do you buy the clubsport vinyl decals?
Heyyyy its Lew from @unboxtherapy like your GTI mannn!!!
So if our US buddies don’t get the Clubsport S does that mean you also don’t get the TCR??
Goals baby!! One day...
I have been trying to do a burnout with my clubsport but it's not working what am I doing wrong it's dsg
It's not a clubsport. Clubsport is lighter, has a lighter and stronger subframe. Different and slightly stronger internals because this GTI doesnt have the R engine thus not having same hpfp and lpfp. Also, the guy doesnt know what he is talking about, even if they didnt set a Nürburgring record, this car would be as popular as it is now
Couple of questions....1) Is that a stock is38 or a hybrid is38? Because there is no way your running 126mph with a stock is38. 2) what's the advantages of running the jb4 with the APR stage 2 tune? Can itCouple harm the motor? 3) When you ran the 11.1@125mph how much did the car weight? Did you remove all the interior? Thanks love the car.
Stock is38
Stage 3 R do mid 10 so I guess this would do 11's
Filmed in Mexico right?
Should I tune my 2009 2.0 TSI Scirocco? It's the 200hp one (EA888 gen 1 I believe). I've done the chain and tensioner (known issue on mk6's as well). Just got a few esthetic mods on it (wheels, tires, lowered, etc) but never really wanted to touch the engine because of the chain issue, etc but now since that is fixed, I might just do it right? It's a DSG as well. A stage 1 would set me at 270 hp and 420 nm (310 ft-lbs)
Had a MK5 GTI at 270hp for 5 years, the extra horses made it next level fun, had no issues (after upgrading PCV, diverter valves)
Im proud, because i live in europe with a real Clubsport :)
SuperDigitalMe yea but you still live in Europe which sucks ass lol
@@polishrican 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
@@polishrican LOL I think life in Europe overal is way better then in the US, at least for the west part of Europe
Is that really something to brag about when you’re paying well over Golf R prices for your GTI???
Beautiful GTI car I still prefer manual over DSG even if it’s a tad slower.
its more than a tad lol.
manual = new clutch very weak standard.
Looks great! Does it have DCC?
My real GTI Clubsport has, as we specced it from factory build. I live in Sweden so much closer to Germany! 😄
The R engine has better rods also!
how were you able to bring it to the states great reveiw
Wasn't it the Clubsport S that set the previous nurburgring records and not the standard Clubsport?
yes , the S is more hard core than this car
Golfmother well this isn’t even a real clubsport!
@@papaannefranku9693 Go check driving in a real one on my channel! 👍
@@golfmother3141 Until you start modding the standard of course. (depending on the mods)
Ey man what size wheel are you running
Soooo where can I find this spoiler? I've been looking for one for my GTI and I love the styling of this one.
Edit: Think I found it. It's sold on Neuspeed's website. It's from the Japanese company, Ishikawa Engineering Performance. It's the iSWEEP Mk7/Mk7.5 GTI/Golf R Roof Wing Extension.
In for an answer on this as well, would look good on my R.
in for answer as well, want something for my R
@@dorkultra same, same
Even if they sold them in the states, it's just about the same price as an R. It doesn't make a whole lot of sense beyond "fwd", but for what the golf's designed for, handling at speed, I don't get it
I emailed a question to shop dap haven't gotten a response yet.
Question was. The oem tcr imported exhaust is a direct bolt on to a mk7. 5 in America? Like it's the same sized pipe?
Gonna convert my cornflower blue rabbit into a tcr. All oem parts.
The stainless steel VW TCR exhaust or the Akrapovic titanium one? I vote the Akra!
@@chriskelvin248 HAAHAHA i wish. But just the stock tcr muffler.
@@DatGameCollector awwwww
@@chriskelvin248 you can send me Though!
@@DatGameCollector if someone gave me two, I might consider it...lol. I can't stop turning over this crazy idea of putting a GTI rear valence and GTI Akra exhaust on my 7.5 R. Always felt the quad exhaust on a 4 cylinder was just a pair too far. R32 had it right.
Any link to buy that real spoiler?
I wanna know what brand his wheels are
Lowered on what?
Can the same power level be achieved with 8v A3? It's virtually the same drivetrain as the R but GTI engine correct?
Auto Senses if it’s the “Miller engine” it has a different head to save fuel
Hello, this is Korea. I have a question. Can I use the mk7r suspension for mk7gd?
Just buy a MK7R. Converting would be ridiculously expensive.
I'd love to know how you killed wheel hop. I only hop at the drag strip, not on the street. My 60' is 2.4...ugh. i run 13.0's. Stage 2 APR. HELP PLEASE.
Look into lower dogbone mount options. I used Powerflex hybrid bush on my Cupra 280, same platform
Oil change every 2500 miles. Greatest daily. 30000km here in Germany oil change on any gti/r.
long life service ist dumm, am besten alle 15.000 zum ölwechsel, 30.000 kannste mit den 1.0 oder 1.5tsi krücken machen 🙂
All cars need maintenance.
race cars more often.
Nice street strip euro ride.
Here's his build thread from back in the day.
forums.vwvortex.com/showthread.php?7116366-RjRacing-s-GTI-PP-Build-Thread
How do you get the DSG to spin the tires like that?
Turn tc off and more power than stock
Imagine paying $2k for a bumper and calling it ”clubsport!” 😂🤦🏾♂️
The bumper looks like it doesn't sit flush with the fenders.
Appears to have rolled fenders for the bigger drag tyres
Wheels?
what wing is that?
Yeah. I tried to buy this car like a week ago. Never got pictures of that interior to show it didnt have any tips or anything 🤷♂️
what wheels is that ?
what % tint ?
So where is the AD so i can see how much he wants to sell it for?
I thought the rods on the golf R are different then the GTI?
This is a full conversion, but only the bumper, a sticker and is38? Interesting....
Great car, not a Clubsport.
Where the wing at bro, everyone knows thats the first step to Clubsport conversion lol
Pickle Ahoy true. Thing is you can’t fit the club sport spoiler on a GTi. To fit it you need a regular MK7 Golf Hatch. Won’t fit on a MK7 GTi/R. I looked into it. I daily a MK7 GTi Performance Package.
That's fast as fuck to me
Golf gti wheelspin Edition xD nohate
Type R bro
Is the clubsport front bumper a direct fit or do you need to modify the car to fit it?
Direct, OE as mentioned. Only needs paint, assembly and install
Wait his names what?
Either the bumper was put on really badly or man's had a bumper bashing.
How do you combine a jb4 and a tune?
Easy get on the jb4 fb group and get pointers for tuning depending on you're ecu tune
Gottraction any reliability issue for stacking?
Do you guys realize how many 400whp+ MK7 GTI owners there are out there now? It’s very common. I’m one of them.
Not a lot of big turbo gtis on the streets
That's true but alot of them arent running 11.1s with an is38 lol
@@Detriuch that’s because most of us aren’t going to drag strips to track times. Guaranteed if we all lined up and tested it, a lot of us would. Especially DSG guys. It’s literally step on the gas pedal and go. Hardly any skill involved to reach that time.
@@gl4989 yes there are. Just AZ and CA alone, there’s a plethora amount of us.
excuse the ignorace, but do all GTIs have folding mirrors?
