- Volunteers at the Port Macquarie Koala Hospital are working tirelessly to save traumatised koalas after hundreds have been killed in the bushfire crisis.
"Taronga Zoo has offered to take some of the overflow. Billabong Zoo has offered to take some of them. And we also have home carers who can also take koalas" - Sue Ashton - President - Port Macquarie Koala Hospital

@@geoffrogerson9937 From the looks of it a lot of Australians seem to be helping koalas and other injured animals in the midst of these wildfires, which is a good thing. If they are taken care of and remain healthy they can hopefully breed and create more and more healthy koalas.

What do you suggest, Trevor? Australia has always had bush fires, always will. There will always be droughts, sometimes severe. These animals live in the bush. What do you suggest? Enclose them all in zoo's or sanctuaries? What if those are caught up in fires? It's a sad reality of nature.

In the 1990's we had a large bush fire in the Port Macquarie area... Helped to rescue 89 Koala's over a couple of weeks.Seen some that did not make it from the fire...This recent fire is 10 times worse than the one that i was involved with in the 1990's...

Sonya Goughnour I think the work the koala hospital is doing is wonderful, but I agree with you about the other animals that need help. What organisations are helping other animals affected by the fires, eg domestic pets and other wildlife besides koalas? Are the RSPCA helping them?

At least we can try to do something to help our self against the fire. These beautiful animals don't have any hope against the fire. There hope is these people helping them and what we can do as well to help.
