- Here are 12 minutes of me complaining. Complaining about Delta Air Lines separating me and my 2-year-old son in their booking system and stressing me out on an already stressful travel day (flying solo).
...Complaining about the airline workers for making it worse before making it better. Complaining about Boston Logan Airport. Complaining about the lack of passenger protection laws for parents in the US. Complaining about profit over human decency. Complaining about a lack of family lines in US airports. I've never flown Virgin Atlantic with him! I'm sorry -- I hope I didn't freak you out too much! If taking a carrier with you (as a backup) is a possibility, I would recommend it.
This sucks so bad. I’m flying Delta with my toddler international for the 1st time and this is my biggest fear. Not only did I pay extra for the main cabin price, which is the same exact seat in the economy, but I also paid extra on top of that to reserve seats! Whatever money I thought I was going to save with Delta just flew out of the window. 😂😂😂
I'm sorry!! Ughhh. You shouldn't have to pay these fees just to prevent this crazy, unnecessary stress (but I hope it does remove the stress!) -- GAH! DELTA! Why?! Sending you good vibes for a smooth travel day.
Do you know anything about assistance in the connection for people traveling with infant on lap? Just like the wheel chair assistance. I am traveling soon and I asked for that. I personally never saw anyone with a baby being rolled in a wheel chair!
Wondering if that's an option but how would I carry the stroller and all of our bags.
Hmm I've never used any sort of pre-organized assistance but please please let me know if you're able to ask someone and get help! How much stuff are you bringing on the plane? I would strongly recommend only bringing what you are able to manage by yourself and practicing at home if possible! It's so stressful navigating the airport with heavy and unmanageable bags + baby (I've been there!) and so much easier with less stuff.
Oh my! I totally agree we shouldn't have to pay to sit next to our baby. I can't imagine how upset I would be if I were in this situation. I always fly southwest now to choose seats but I don't want to feel forced to do that. Ug.

Yes! I really like southwest. You pick your seat. They let families on first and then no assigned seating so it’s amazing for families. Plus you get two free checked bags. Sometimes the prices are good other times it’s more expensive.

Do not purchase the economy tickets with last-minute seat selection. The ticket agents must abide by Delta's rules. Purchase a fare with seat selection at the time of purchase.

I will be flying solo from Australia to Europe with my 2 and 4 year olds next week. If they want to put them next to some poor strangers, bloody go for it 😂 see how long they last

Even Zip Air (japans new budget airline) enforces parents to sit next to kids under I think 10? Not sure of the age but you can’t even choose other seats. The furthest would be like two aisle seats across from each other.
Another thing, I’ve never heard a good thing about delta even once 😅

Why don’t you just ask the passenger whenever you board to switch.. I am sure they’d have been understanding of the absurd situation and probably compassionate and ready to change spots for you to sit next to him
I would have done that if I needed to. Thankfully it didn’t come to that. However, I don’t think parents should have to ask other passengers to switch seats, especially since sometimes the other passengers have paid to choose their seat. And in our case, we had two middle seats (!) which of course are not desirable. I would have felt awful.
Not to be rude but parents or actually everyone should read the terms when they buy a ticket.Most airlines the cheapest or basic fare(all different airlines call it different things) have restrictions such as seats are not together with anyone in your itenirary.Basically you are getting the random seats that are left over after others purchase the fare that include seat selection.That’s why airlines that do this are very clear and suggest to you if you are traveling with children or infants or you must sit with your travel companions that the “basic fair is not recommended.I’m not saying I agree but it’s not fair for families or couples or anyone actually to pay a higher fare to get seats together to have to move or give up their paid seats to accommodate someone who didn’t pay.It’s easy for gate agents to be accommodating (if the airline allows them to) on a flight with a lot of open seats but on a full flight it’s harder to do.In not saying this is your situation.And I’m sure it’s more difficult if you are traveling often and not only have to worry about different airline policies and rules ect but every country’s airlines policy’s are different.I think it’s important to know each airline if is different and each airline has different ticketing/seat/baggage/ect policy’s.Some do open seating some do assigned some do it based on fare.It’s good to just read your airlines contract of carriage to know what to expect.And don’t be surprised if you agree to their terms that you may get held to what you agree to.
I appreciate you taking the time to write a comment. My complaint is actually higher what the airlines do and don't promise in their policies. I don't believe that airlines should be able to decide that it's even a possibility for parents to be seated away from their children, in any circumstance, at any price point. I don't think parents should have to look into each airline's policy to check if there's a possibility that they could be separated from their children if they purchase cheaper tickets. In other countries, this is an unthinkable scenario. For example, it is illegal in Canada for airlines to seat parents away from their children. I also don't think other passengers who paid more or specifically selected their seats should have to move for families. I don't think airlines should be allowed to put families in that situation in the first place.
Get a grip! Make sure you and your loved ones are together! Sorry for your inability. Get the next flight drama queen
