  • The new Mini Coupe JCW is the firm's latest offering to the Mini line-up. Thanks to improved torsional rigidity, the coupe handles better than the standard hatchback, allowing it to make the most of its turbocharged 211bhp engine. But is it worthy rival to the more established coupes on sale? Here, Matt Prior finds out.

Erm.... Why on earth did he not use the sport button? Tightens up the suspension and steering response.

yeah it's a love or hate thing, I agree with you and fall into the latter camp. My BMW interior is sombre and minimal but that's the way I like it. Although I respect MINI for doing something different, quirky, quite 'designer-ish' and some will love it for that.

I'd take the Scirocco without thinking twice. Its just so much more mature than any of the other two.

I wish they had the scirocco in the US. It looks great -aggresive but not weird- has enough horsepower, the interior is nice, and the overall handling and car is a VW. Plus, with the small car boom in the US, it would be a pretty competent player...

I like the mazda, yes I agree it isn't as sporty as it once was compared to the others. But .. roof down and I am cruising along.

@AndrewParkerTV Just to add, I respect what Mini does, and maybe for some people that's the only car/brand they ever want. I try to pick from a wider choice - but I do have a family, I will admit.

mini should use the chassis from the 1 series to make if more sportier rwd car and more fun to drive.

I'll take the MX-5 Roadster with the hard folding roof any day.
Maybe not as powerful but who cares when you're driving down the beach with the roof down, the sun shining, warm breeze blowing. Plus it's a Mazda so it'll go on forever.
If you must, you can always add some basic after market mods like cold air intake, 4/2/1 header, exhaust, etc.

Strange to have no rear seat, but such a large boot - possibly just so they could call it a two seater?
