I saw this movie at Sundance and absolutely loved it. It’s less of a traditional movie, it doesn’t have a tight narrative, it’s more like watching someone’s life unfold over time. Like what you see when your “life flashes before your eyes” at death. It’s a meditative, slow, beautiful, nostalgic movie about life’s beauty and tragedy. I hope people give this movie the chance it deserves. And the patience to enjoy it.
I definitely got that vibe. It looks inspired by the films of Terrance Malick.

@@teerandom5494 A Hidden Life was seriously good and possibly a film if you want an easier-to-follow narrative as most of his films are somewhat experimental. I think Badlands is also a good film with an easier-to-follow narrative. For me, The Tree Of Life and Voyage of Time are the most visually breathtaking, but I think all of his films are visually striking...almost to the point, you can enjoy it just for the visuals. Except the one with Ben Affleck in it...that wasn't great.
Without even 100% knowing the storyline I teared up at how visually stunning this is. Can’t wait.

I’m so glad that more stories like this can even see the light of day. I know they’ve been written plenty before but to see them being picked up by major movie production companies like a24 is tear jerking in it self. This is a new era for black film I can feel it. Maybe even the first era.

It looks like a Terrence Mallick movie so I don’t know if I’d say it’s creative.
They probably will if the movie turns out good. A24 is known to just be a distributor, they just shine a light and give a chance to up and coming independent filmmakers.

Having only been in existence since 2012, A24 has a near stranglehold on the most creative, thought-provoking fare you’ll likely encounter anywhere in cinema these days. If the company had as many decades under its belt-and pockets as deep as its larger competitors-it wouldn’t even be a competition, not even close.
They are the ONLY production company of which I have made a concerted effort to see and *OWN* every single release thus far…and this film will be no exception. For me, a new A24 release can turn a catastrophically bad day rather celebratory. Never, EVER change!🙏🏽🙌🏽✊🏽🥰🔥🔥🔥
I'd say Neon is also making a good run at being a close second to A24. If I see that either studio is involved in a movie I add it to my must watch list without any other questions and am rarely disappointed.
@@toddhollen I second that emotion! I’m just thankful that we live in a time where we have OPTIONS now. Not so long ago, if we wanted to see any challenging fare stateside, it likely came out of Canada, Japan, France or the Netherlands. I’m now proud to say that we have a few indie studios here that can compare to the best of those around the world.
I’ve seen films from multiple indies that are as intricate and nuanced as the best books…and that’s a REALLY good feeling to have about now.
@@nashobalusa3288 I didn't get into Indi film or foreign film until 2018, thanks to Moviepass, which l argue is the best year for movies ever (it's ridiculous how many amazing movies came out that year). So the stars really aligned perfectly with Moviepass and rise of A24 and Neon, and others, to really get me into really great movies.

Wow, the visuals and colors they used for this film, with that score. And I heard this was one of the movies that distributors were gunning for. Glad A24 snatched it up.

A24 is pretty good in distribution business, given that they have a good reputation give them an edge
I met Raven about 4 years ago and talking with her I remember her passionate vision for this film. I immediately knew she was a star based on our conversation. So glad to see her shine!

I just saw this movie and it's unlike anything I've seen..it feels so personal. I also walked away feeling like if the movie told the character's life in chronological order it wouldn't make sense. Having different scenes of her life come up felt real because thats what storytelling is... especially when you look at how miraculous giving birth is- you jump back to a space and time, a memory where it engulfs you. The sound narrative on this is beautiful and as someone who grew up in Maryland, it felt so much like my childhood. I love this movie!! Touching, brilliant, and poetic.
I just finished watching this, and I must say, the purity and rawness of this film took me somewhere. very nostalgic..when you know, you know❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

Slow, yet steady and successful. Please don’t sell out. We need you guys - a “smallish” independent company, who has the ability to be able to pick and choose exactly what you want to produce. One who has the autonomy to choose your own course. We need you to stay that way, now more than ever, in this world of never ending, put me to sleep, marvel chaos. 🙏 Sometimes bigger is better. Especially financially. But more often than not, independence, self governance, these things lead to greater collective creativity that is special and successful and better, and in a more impactful way, especially in your line of work. And it is rare. But, just in case - I saw something online, value of 2.5b. Id scoff at that if I were you. Anyhow, Thanks for all you do.

The cinematography is absolutely stunning
I mean this as the biggest compliment and don't want to take anything away from the filmmakers, but this is giving me big Malick vibes visually, especially the Tree of Life. This movie looks amazing and definitely going to watch it whenever it comes out!

The cinematography is amazing
Daddy’s side of the family fled the south. Jim Crow and the violence and hatred was just too much to bear. New York was far from sanctuary and brought with it many of its own issues, but grandma said she left and never looked back for a reason. I can’t imagine what she lived through

I grew up in the rural South and this movie speaks to my soul unlike most others: the rural setting, Black characters, gospel music.
i am glad A24 isnt compromising its vision for telling interesting stories.
