THANK YOU for watching! You can also find the video about how I use the Google Keep app for my to-list here (and I'm normally a paper list maker, but really like this app!): czcams.com/video/RtoBjULoPek/video.html
Thank you for making so many videos that seem to apply to me!!🙂 It is helping to keep me motivated and optimistic that I can make some necessary changes.❤
Whoa!
Today you share
profound words worth archiving.
Can u show us how you do your To Do list and why?? (if u have time) perhaps throw in some other options your friends prefer? I saw a snippet of it where u had a # 1 then the letter A ...& there must be a reason lol. ___Your family achieves so much between 2 CZcams channels, your businesses & raising your kids. We would love to see how u keep your life so organized. I personally fail at lists....get overwhelmed. I just need a simpler way. Thanks Dawn! U guys r awesome!
@@CS-ki5uf she actually does in the video that is linked in her post...
I used Google keep before but am using the #1 & A priorities as well now and am doing a lot better than before (because all the "dump"-lists are really full of to dos and that makes prioritizing hard...)
@@snowhopper1048 Thank u so much! I kind of watched her video in a hurry & didn't get a chance that day to see if she had a link anywhere (i shoulda known she would!)---she is like super organized lol. Thanks again I desperately need a better list!
When I'm having trouble getting motivated, I set timers. If I want to sit and knit or whatever, I set a 15 minutes timer. When it goes off, I set another during which time I go do dishes, laundry or whatever I can fit into that 15 minutes. Even if I'm not done, I can quit(but I usually finish what I'm doing). I can get a lot done in 15 minutes!
Bobbi great idea!
This is what I do and I am amazed by what gets done! I feel like I get more done this way than just focusing on getting it done all at once.
@@annamorriscreates Me, too! And it helps keep me from getting trapped into the social media time suck.😆
I do it too. I have a lot of health issues so I always tell myself I can do anything for fifteen minutes and then I can rest. I do it all during the day!!
I do that too, it works so good for me, but sometimes i just don't want to get up, but now i d probably think abt my future self and how i would feel if i ve pushed through or not
When I don't feel like cleaning I just invite guests for the evening. That motivates a lot!
😂I love it
Outside motivation
This month I've started going through my digital photos and plan to start photo books. It's awful but the hardest part was just getting started.
I find sometimes my emotions play a huge part in my productivity! If I have something on my mind that’s bothering me or maybe I’m not feeling very well....those two things can really influence my activity level! So I try really hard to always break tasks down into small increments and as you say....I am more likely to accomplish what needs to be done. Then my mood improves and my day seems successful! Our thoughts are soooo powerful!
Love this idea!!! I've mentioned before about my garage hanging over my head. Well that got done but for a while my husbands garage area was very overwhelming I started asking him to just tidy it for 15 min a day he said he would do 30. Well those 30 turned into an hour then 2 hrs and now the garage is completely clean!!!! I had to bite my tongue on my ideas of what he should do with his things🤦♀️ but I did pray and the Lord knows how to handle us! Now that I'm 90% done on decluttering I need to find a hobby 😊
Wahoo!!! Way to go!!! 👏👍♥️
A few weeks ago my whole house felt completely out of control and the worse it got, the less I felt like cleaning. In the end I just had to. I took a whole day and I set a timer for 1 hour in each room (or group of rooms) . Whatever I didn't get done in the hour I left. I managed four hours over the course of the day, interspersed with other things like emails and laundry. I'd cleaned the kitchen, the bathrooms, the bedrooms and the living/dining room. I should have taken one more hour to finish off (I have a small home) but I'd had enough by then. I did feel much better though.
“Put it off for multiple days...”. LOL. For me, it’s put it off for multiple weeks! You are a wonderful motivator, and speak the truth! What do I do? I watch your videos! That always helps me get motivated. Keep it up. ☺️
I have to pray to find strength at times. I feel like after a very sincere pray I can start thinking about the tasks I need to tackle. Sometimes anxiety gets in the way of me trying to make important phone calls so I have to breath and talk myself through those as well. I try to do the hardest things first. I call it "eating my frog". Thank you for being my CZcams friend. 💜💜💜
Love the Praying for strength and eating the frog, yes!
Yes, I feel that way too about certain things I need to do but have put off and then it becomes dread. Hello anxiety and stress.
I need prayer to be less anxious and overwhelmed. I get overwhelmed when I think of all I need to do or go through. I then sit staring at my phone forever instead of actually doing something. Definitely something I need to work on.
@@larabellg8425 thank you so much. I needed that pep talk! Tomorrow I think I'm going to start doing stuff differently to be more productive! God bless!
my mom calls this technique "swallowing the frog" :-) I have a hard time with anxiety too
I'm not even finished watching this, but I busted out in tears when you said "feeling unsupported"...Yes!
Now, to feed and walk the dog, switch out the laundry, make/serve/clean up dinner, etc, etc...
I'm sorry to hear this Lori, all my love to you! ♥️
Hang in, Lori. Take a good look @ what needs to be done & how to prioritize it. I'm sure your doing a great job. Keep on fighting the good fight!!!
Never weary of doing good my friend.🤗
Lori I just lifted you up in prayer. Try to see your worth through God's eyes. But I pray he brings someone supportive into you life
I hear you! Although it would be wonderful/fabulous/miraculous to have help with the day-to-day chores, it made me less resentful when someone posted that each of my chores were things and I desired to have done to maintain my sanity. So, yes, I would benefit from a clear floor; I would be glad of a good meal; I would benefit from clean laundry, clean dishes, etc. These accomplished tasks make me feel good. Press on, dear one, and maybe someday as a bonus, a family member will join you.
I have purchased expensive courses and read a lot about productivity. I haven't learned as much since I started watching your channel. You have easy and realistic tips.
I love the concept of your future self. Your future self wants you to do x, y and z! This is motivation for me to clean up the kitchen every night, and to run the dishwasher. If I dont get this task done at night, I'm always kicking myself for it the next day!
i have Wednesdays as my anti-procrastination day. I went through my planner for Feb. and wrote paper clutter (which is a huge problem in my house) and finances ( I want to work toward becoming debt free this year) to commit 15 minutes on each one of these things on Wednesdasy when I get home from work :)
This video came at a perfect time.
For me switching from one task to the other every 10 to 15 minutes works fantastic! Last Sunday I worked through a to do list with about ten bigger tasks (like decluttering in different areas, installing hooks to a wall, rearranging the shelves in our basement, offering stuff at an online market place...) and tackled every task for 10 min and then went on to the next. I did almost three cycles through my list and was highly productive. I first thought the permanent interruption would disturb my flow but now I love changing the task after 10 min and dive into the next one. And when I am back to a task I have already worker on, I even feel kind of happy and excited that I now may continue where I had to stop! In can feel like a fun game! 😃
As I am watching this my husband is helping me with laundry. I have been putting off for DAAAAYS. Side note: hubby took 2 HUUUGE bags of "minimalizing " clothes to the car to donate.
Wahoo!!! ♥️👍👏
Dont you wish it would all blow away...?
You didn’t mention the best motivator of all. Your videos! They are the BEST for me to make me want to get started on something. I know this is true for most of your followers. Donna Lewis
Currently distracting myself with this video so I don't have to do things on my to do list. 🤫
I got so much done today! I've been watching your inspiring and motivational videos for just a few weeks. I set the goal to participate in the monthly community 'garage sale' that takes place in our longhouse. With your lessons fresh in my head I've purged garage, store rooms, linen closet, papers and more. We'll have two car loads of stuff to give away and what doesn't get re-homed will go to the dump and recycling center..... never have to handle it again! Goodbye clutter! mahalo nui! Going to make this house rentable and find a beautiful, quiet place to live. carry on.
On days when I am overwhelmed, I just do one thing. I find if I can do one thing,it gets me going onto the next thing. Before I know it the list is either complete or mostly done and then I can sleep that night.
When I don't feel like doing anything, I watch CZcams and get all the enthusiasm from the videos I watch. But by the time I decide to start, I am tired and I go to sleep :-(
😁
I was like this the first few months after I found this channel too. (This was the first one I found and soooo grateful 😊)
I felt like after soaking up goodness from this channel and a couple of other inspiring mums I was in a much better place and started getting a lot more productive. This channel really helped me recovering from anxiety and depression. It was such a relief to be told I probably just had to much stuff rather than feeling bad I couldn't keep it all clean and tidy!
@@ilanabuttle7835 this comment was just to lighten up ...I really enjoy her videos and am a subscriber...I subbed this channel after watching her minimalist house tour...I am a believer in 'less is more' and this channel really inspires :-)
@@MonasLens ☺ ok
Mona's Lens you tube is wonderful with great and not so great info but it is my biggest time waster. It’s so addictive 😩
I'm starting to realize that I'm addicted to my phone and need to manage my time better. I just started watching the video but already know it's gonna be a good one! :)
Hi Dawn - Great tips. Thanks. When I am not motivated or don’t feel like doing anything, I pray and asked God to help me to do what I need to do. Sounds over simplified but I have noticed when I don’t ask for His help, I flounder.
That is probably one of the best tips, and perhaps the first one we should do. Every day.
Exactly!!!! He is my "Ever-present help in time of need". Without His help, I would be a mess! Thank you for reminding us of the simplest thing to do, yet we often forget.
@Donna Campbell, thanks for this reminder.......I find this to be true constantly.......we can do it all alone (heavy) or we can ask for and receive God's help that is always there for the asking.......at least it all looks and feels differently after that........Actually this is HIS plan.....
I found that one of my struggles is that I’m just plain tired. I’ve learned that when my body is telling me that I need more sleep, to just give it what it needs. I may take an extra long nap, or sleep in longer in the morning. I used to lay there feeling guilty, that I should get up and get busy, or that I’m creating a bad habit of being lazy. But I’ve learned through experience that I get way more accomplished if I listen to my body first. When I’m well rested, I have the right mindset and the energy/motivation to tackle the tasks of the day. So my tip is to not feel guilty if you need to take a morning or afternoon of rest. Give yourself a break so that you can hit the ground running when your body and mind are sufficiently rested!
I try to do what I hate the most first. That way everything else left doesn't seem as difficult.
@edixtro, good then the smaller ones look more like fun.....
When you’re sick there’s no motivation but since having Decluttered, all systems run smoother, as you said.
The pockets of hyper productivity- great tip!!
I do a very abbreviated form on Getting Things Done.
1) I write down anything that pops into my head immediately , I never try to remember anything because the brain is not for filing.
2) I sort this list into four categories:
(i) Errands/shopping list,
(ii)Things that I need to talk with someone about before I can do them.
(iii) Someday/Someway..dreams.
(iv) For the rest of the list: if it can be done in three minutes or less I do it right away. For everything else I write down the first action step that needs to be done to get it started. This turns a vague to-do list into actionable activities. So much easier.
I love this technique, it has made me so much more relaxed.
Wow ❤️
my planner was just a daily log that I wrote in after the fact at the end of the day for a long time. Just this last year I started to do a brain dump and actually preplan what I need to do for the day /week/month and placing them into the day I want to do them. So much more gets done now and I love checking off the boxes!
super AWESOME!!!
And this change first began with what I call "honoring" your planner. Something shifted in you between your "documenting/logging" activities to planning future actions. I wonder what made you decide to move from logging to planning?
I used to tell my kids when they took piano- start with the scales to warm up their fingers and hands. Then start with the newest hardest piece. Start with the hardest measure(s) of that piece. And try to unsnarl them. Work on that hard piece for 5-10 minutes. Then go to some that they are currently working on but that are coming along. Then finally play some music that they are accomplished at. And play for fun! That is exactly how I work my day and my to-do list. Hard stuff first. Just like you said, I might not get the whole project done but I work on the hard stuff first. Then switch to some things that are already coming along. Then a little fun. :)
You "hard stuff first" people are admirable for sure, but I'm a small-victory-snowball person; the hard stuff is too intimidating to start with. I have, however, created a separate "hard stuff list" and try to accomplish at least one of those items a week, with the goal of building momentum, motivation, and courage. Thanks for your inspiration.
Robyn Smith I am on your team 😊 ! That works for me too.
I was once listening to a single mom of 4 small children talk about her struggling and she said something that has really stuck with me.
"The Holy Spirit whispered to me, 'Baby girl, what's one little thing you can do right now?' 'The dishes...' 'ok, baby girl, just do that'" After she finished that, "Baby girl, what's one more little thing you can do? "...
Just knowing there is someone walking with me through it, knowing I only have to do "one little thing" , but pretty soon I have a list of "little things" I have accomplished and feeling great about it which makes me want to keep going
Mel Robbins' 5-second rule is helpful for just getting started on something, which is always the hardest part!
Yes! Love this!
I use it when my timers go off and I'm having trouble wanting to follow my own "rules"😆Such a great tool!
Love Mel❤
I have learnt how to snooze even that😬
li ooooh, yeah, I've been known to do that a time or two. Ok, fine. A LOT!😆
Yap. I have to admit that feeling unsupported or misunderstood sometimes makes me feel like " why do i bother?"... but then again thats not my true self either so... all i can do is pray and hope that the good intents of my heart can somehow find their way into a better future. I am always hoppefull.
Yes, yes, yes and Yes!
Thank you.
The muscle development- golden!
What great “doable” ideas !! I put one to work while I watched the video ! Thanks Dawn ! ❤️
Dressing to shoes makes such a difference. Even days I’m staying home I get so much more done when I’m dressed to shoes. And checking off that To Do list!
Thank you for your tips on this topic. Just 5 or 10 minutes invested in something I've been putting off makes a difference. Then usually it motivates me to continue or go back to it later in the day.
Thank you, going time for bed but I'm going to listen to this again in the morning with my to do list to figure it out xxxx
Thank you MM as usual
The Fly lady! You are the modern version of this awesome philosophy! ♥️👍
I got distracted while watching your video Dawn:) lol, just kidding. I find that whenever I start my day with an exercise I can tackle any task ahead of me with more focus, it truly sets the tone on the right track. Even a short walk in my neighborhood truly makes a difference instead of doing my full workout routine, the outdoor walk just refreshes and does magic to my mind and spirit. Love loveee this video! a lot of people can truly relate because at times when we have an endless task ahead of us but we do not have the motivation and energy to even start it's mentally daunting and can be very stressful.
Your health can be a benefactor in how productive you feel too. Making sure you get good nutrition can give you energy that is needed. And accountability helps me be productive.
Thank you! This is what I needed today. In my personal situation, I dread doing routinary tasks at work and there is very little motivation to get through them. Recently, I have been logging into youtube and postcasts, so in the meantime I can learn something new while I go through these tasks (and today I found this video!). But really getting started is hard for me, despite that I know that I can have them done within 25-30 minutes.
I struggle with motivation found your tips useful. The other day instead of coming in and having a brew I went and had a brew with my neighbour when I came in I got on with my jobs instead of letting the tiredness come over me
X.
Thank you for vocalizing that some days, 5 minutes is fine! For those of us who struggle with depression, chronic illness, etc., sometimes 25 min is overwhelming 💜
I agree sooo much❤
amen, Sarah Luczyk, I wonder if we set the 5 min., thing, then rest 5 min and look at the difference (perhaps make before and after pics), that we can then go another 5-7 minutes that same one hour period? Seeing the results makes the difference....
Thank you Dawn. This is such great tips. I LOVE the todo lists you shared. Thanks for everything you share with us.
Thank you; this was perfect timing! I've been trying to bust through a wall of inertia due to winter blahs or something. A few days I forced myself to do something mindless, simple, and physical, like sweeping the kitchen floor. The results were rewarding and helped me feel better. I stayed up after everyone had gone to bed to do it, even though I'd had all day and couldn't seem to get anything done. That "change of scenery" with no distractions helped. I've also come to realize (at least according to my family ;-) that my schedule is really full again, so *anything* extra feels really hard. After a day on the couch with a bad head cold, I chose to take my family's advice and cut back. Despite the things I'm involved in being *good*, I need a short season of hyper-focus on a couple things (like minimizing before summer) that will enable me to be MUCH more productive and involved later. Your shortened To-Do List has also helped me redefine victory in my day and helps combat perfectionism. As always, you're a blessing; thanks again!
This was great. You called out one that I must put in to practice TODAY. Writing down my brain dump items instead of acting on them! It seems that I am my own distraction. 🤦♂️😂
I find I get more done if home alone, I spend time drinking coffee and checking emails ( mostly deleting ones I don't need) and then wroking for at least a hour on stuff I need to do. If I'm off I try and plan a meal for later on. I spent alot of time on computer, but putting music on and doing housework helps. Some days I just need rest.
Thanks, Dawn! So helpful to break up the overwhelm with smaller tasks, and in bursts of time
The coffee shop works so good for me. If I go to the coffee shop I get everything done and I don’t feel stressed out while doing it.
My place is the library. Often I can get a table and spread things out to purge and organize them.
Great tips. Thinking of mood and energy, don't dismiss underlining health issues. A walk may be good but if someone is not ever getting over a hump, they may need a Dr visit. Labs, vitamins/supplements, good food, good sleep... Neurotransmitter deficiency are real; sleep disorders are real. Hormones get out of wack, etc. Be real with yourself.
Thankyou for saying sometimes even 25 or 15 minutes feels like too much! Sometimes 10 minutes has felt impossible. but 2 minutes? 5 minutes? That was a game changer for me.
Dawn, THANK YOU. You have been a blessing to me and my family with your decluttering videos. With that, this one in particular really hit me in a positive, comforting way. LOVE! - Heather
Best pep talk ever!! Truly. Just what I needed to hear. ❤️
I'm glad I'm not the only one who has times here and there where I drag to get to my list. I love all your tips! The most helpful thing I've done in the past few years is to complete the tasks I dread most, first. That gives me SUCH a boost mentally and emotionally, and then all the other things on my list seem manageable. You are so wise for your years. I wish we could be friends... but then I remember I'm old enough to almost be your mother!
Shoes that tie!!! And timers! It is so easy to think I’ve done 10 minutes in a task and I’ve really only done 5. Just shared this video on my FB group! Hopefully everyone will come over and watch it. Thank you for all you do!
I tackle my to do list by listening to Dawn while I do dishes, clean or declutter. You are so inspiring Dawn! Thank you for all your tips and tricks!! 😊
I needed this so much! Such amazing content! Thank you! ❤️
Ugh guess I have to go clean my bathroom now 😩😂😂😂
Seriously though, I get my shower. A shower always wakes me up and makes me feel like I can tackle anything. I also turn on music. Music always makes me happy and gets me moving. 😃
OMGosh yes about getting dressed in the morning working from home. Yes, yes yes!!!
This is totally me lately!!! Thanks for the tips.
Thanks! Needed that! :)
Cute earrings and still praying for your cold💗
I do the worst items first.😉
To get my day started off I can get a load of laundry a day done is putting in a load in the washer the night before. Then start it first thing in the morning to get a start of accomplishing something.
I love your videos! Thank you for your positivity and doable plans! ♥️
Great suggestions, thank you!
When I need motivation help I often watch a CZcams video (Yours are some of my favorites!) I find your positivity very motivating!!!😊💗
I love that you say to start with 5 minutes! Once I get started, I am ok but if I think I have to spend 15 minutes on something, it puts me off!! Hope you're feeling a lot better now. 😊 xxx
I NEEDED this today!!!!!! Really!!! ❤ God bless you.
You are so great! So encouraging and down to earth.
I'm glad your feeling better.
When I have to do household tasks that I don’t want to tackle I find putting on singalong music really helps me get through and lifts my mood. If I’m doing something like decorating that goes on for hours then podcasts or audio books get me through.
Dawn, I just found you a couple of months ago. I just want to thank you for all your videos. They are very educational and inspiring. I love them because they are very easy and enjoyable to watch. You have definitely found your passion and I appreciate everything you do and say. I hope you will continue for a long time making these videos and helping people that need this including myself. I always look forward in seeing your next one. I can not thank you enough on what you do. Since I have found you I have downsized my dishes and wardrobe. They are in a bin in the garage with a date on it and I will donate it in 6 months. You are just a wonderful person inside and out. Thank you!!! Thank you!!! Thank you!!!
Thank you for this! I need motivation, I think this will help!
This was encouraging, Dawn! 💃🖒😀 Thank you!!
Excellent tactics! Thank you for the motivational tips. 😊
The clothes thing is really working. When I am working in my home office I wear a nice blouse and trousers, a little make up and ta-dah, I feel a lot more confident. This works for phone calls, too.
Great content. Thank you for sharing.
Great advice! Always love your videos! ☺️
You hit it right on the button for me! I get really distressed when I think all the things I should do around the house, but don’t have the initiate to do it. Thank you for all your tips. You are so real and I appreciate your candid desire to help others.
So many great ideas here, thank you!
You are my favorite on CZcams by far!!! Your videos are the reason I’m going minimal. Thank you 👌
So great. I'm going to implement some of these tips.
Your earrings are amazing! Beautiful, like your messages.
I have a full time job so Saturday is the day to get my chores done. I dread going grocery shopping after chores. If I push through and get the shopping done too, then I reward myself by doing something that I want to do in the evening. And I can feel good about it. Thank you for your encouragement and all of the great information that you share!
When I'm crazy busy in the summer I use an ipad for work rather than my laptop and don't have any other apps on there, no social media and no using Google, just work files and emails; this helps me to switch off from work too because I work from home a lot but if I'm not on the ipad, it's not work time. I also have a separate work phone, with no apps.
I dread my nighttime cleaning and reset routine. What works for me is I do not allow myself to listen to my fav podcast unless I’m cleaning. I have had a clean home ever since.
Thank you for these tips! Very helpful.
My favorite line is "I'm always one click away from Amazon!" So funny.
You motivate me! So, step one accomplished!
I found that really thinking about what's worth my attention, what it is that is causing the most stress, and then simplifying my systems as far as they can go has been a huge help in boosting my productivity. Once I got everything to a bare-bones routine I could then add tasks back in our cut some out that weren't a good use of my time. I run my home very similarly to the fly lady system, but just because some people swish their toilets every day doesn't mean I have to as well if I don't find value in doing it.
I needed this TODAY! Thank you!
Thank you for that! Needed it today.😁
Omg I needed this video !
I read Hal Enrods book "the early" morning, and since then I always get up a hour earlier then I use too. Then I also realized that my phone will track my sleep pattern, and that I actually didn't need as much sleep as I even thought. So I usually get up at 5:00 am, brush my teeth, drink a glass of water. Then I exercise, or meditate, read, journal, and then make my bed and get ready. I realized that if I do that every day during the week it actually creates a whole extra day of the week. I don't always do it both days of the weekend but the days I do I get so much more done:) Then if I get tired during the day my reward is a power nap for 20 min. But I usually don't need it.
Thanks Dawn I consider this video a good pep talk. Encouraging me, I can do this small amount of time to make progress. And I love the color of your sweater.
I love you and your sister!!
That 5 minutes trick really works for me! Thank you so much!
Dawn, you are the best!!! These are amazing tips for getting motivated. I took notes because my brain always forgets all of this when I try to be productive! 📝
Sometimes I'll listen to videos like this in the background while I go through and organize/declutter files at work! Once I gain momentum, it's easier to continue on to other tasks.
Love your videos. I find having two goals at any time is enough, too many and I don't do anything well. I was reading the book Drive and it talks about "flow" when you get to a point where a task is effortless work. I also like the ideas about deep work.
Love the topic AND your earrings!
