  • Incredible rumors circulate among Soviet soldiers about a mysterious German tank that suddenly appears and disappears on the battlefield, destroying everything in its path. This is the White Tiger, the devil no one can handle. After one of such battles, a badly burnt tank driver is found in a disabled Soviet tank. Surviving such monstrous burns is impossible, but the tank driver is quickly on the mend. Doctors are perplexed and throw up their hands, assuring that it’s a miracle.
Still, this man does not remember who he is, where he comes from, but he knows one thing - the mystical German tank does exist. He believes that the war has given him back his life to rid the world of the killer tank, the White Tiger. What’s that? A fantasy? A mirage? Third Reich’s secret weapon? Or did he discover the ultimate secret of the war?

For all foreign/English speaking viewers - unknown survived Russian tank driver and White Tiger are not specific person and tank. They both represent Soviet soldiers and Nazi regime. Tankist (tank driver) name is Naidyonov which literally means "Found" (he was found in tank). 90% burnt body of Naydenev represents casualties and losses suffered by Soviet solders and citizens during war. White Tiger represents Nazi War ideology. Naydenev (Soviet citizens) recovered from near death and stopped White Tiger. But White Tiger (Nazi's/Fascism ideology) was never completely destroyed and waiting for its chance.
This is a warning movie to current and future generations, not actual documentary about some mysterious WW2 tank and unkillable Russian tankist.

I wish they'd have kept the first ending, and deleted the "hitler" ending. Both endings allude to the same story, but the Hitler one seemed Gauche, nearly took more from Naidyonov's 'driving into the sunset ether' ending. That's my personal opinion though, if you thought the hitler ending added to the film I won't dis that opinion.

It was based on a fiction story "Tankman". End of it is more dramatic: main character loses his tank, his crew, repairs Czech Lt.35 and tries to get to Allied sector of occupation, as he feels - "Tiger" awaits there, near border. Command panics (is he traitor or madman?) and orders to set an ambush on his way. Ending is open, but, Lt.35 has little chance against battery of captured German "acht-acht", already aimed and loaded.

I loved it too. It was asking viewer very poignant questions. Like- do you think you would be able to spot an evil again even if it won´t be dressed as an usual suspect? Who does profit from the wars? Wasn´t it really British/French plan from the beginning to allow Germany to go East in order to clash with Soviet union (hence their activity in phony war). Remember the Grande Armée? French were actually minority in Napoleon´s army, that invaded Russia. Grande Armee was actually pretty paneuropean.

More russians died on the eastern front in WW2 than any other nation. Even germans. It was about double that of germans on the eastern front.
Meanwhile, germany was forced to defend on multiple fronts (not just from the USSR).
So why did the russians lose double that of the germans? Poor leadership? Marxism? Disobeying orders or simply poor performance, which would get them shot by the way?
There is an advancement schedule. They have to advance 50km a day. They simply have to. Even if it means crossing a rapidly flowing river, which will drown an entire company. Don't cross? Well, then the company commander gets shot. Don't shoot the company commander for disobeying orders? Get shot!
This tells me that the top-down system was more rigid than anything devised in WW1. Sure, you'd get shot for cowardice in the first world war, but they wouldn't shoot the officers (far as I can tell).
TL;DR - USSR was a brutal regime, and it used bullheaded tactics to win.
What a thing to die for huh. Now, are you saying I should just be like the millions of others? Many thousands who were probably unwilling, but forced by the collective? A collective that thought of them essentially as meatpuppets? All the while lying and saying it was 'for the workers' or 'for the people'?
Personally, I'd rather live under an absolute monarchy. At least then I would know my place without all the pretense and the LIES.
And it's your nationalism that foolishly validates romanticization of tragedies like the eastern front. It isn't 'at least we defeated the nazis'. The nazis would've lost eventually anyway - their economy was in the dump by the end. And no, I'm not convinced by 'we had to make it to Berlin first' either.
It isn't ends justify the means to me. That is bullheaded.

"Should we piss on the dead, because we dislike the methods used by their commanders?"
What part of my comments is indicative of me 'pissing on the dead', as you claim I do?
I mean, sure, the soviet commanders pissed on the dead (because the regime made them), but why would you confuse them with me?
"Would you tell a WWII vet "Fuck your nationalism"? Probably not..... it doesn't have to make sense."
It wouldn't be useful to me to do that, so I wouldn't. Meanwhile, youtube comments present a (practical enough) medium.
"It seems you just can't recognize that stuff happens, and it's not always good."
No use in being a cynic and saying 'shit happens'. Stuff can always be done better. It's utilitarian. Meanwhile, 'arbitrary ends propagated by leaders justify the means' doesn't really hold to any sort of moral philosophy (other than 'war! arrrgh') that I can think of.
      "a defensive war"
Ahaha, that 'defensive war' narrative, always returning to the fore without fail.

"Responding to the OP, which only was speaking of the sacrifice made by people in wartime with three words "Fuck your nationalism"
Hilarious. So you think that my disagreement with nationalism is pissing on the dead? Do you realize that, in that rationality, you are ascribing the dead to a single collective, just like you accuse me of ascribing to the OP?
Really, I think the term 'fuck your nationalism' or 'fuck your tribalism' can simply stand on its own. You can't really attach the baggage of offense to it.
My intention wasn't to offend the OP. Yes, it was a slogan, I'll admit. But it works in the sense that it can stand on its own. Notice I didn't say 'fuck you' to OP, I instead said 'fuck your nationalism'. OP may not have realized he was espousing nationalist talking points.
I digress - the internet is still neutral, and that allows me to state my opinion without censorship.
I'm glad we're having this discussion. I'll mention the most emotional I've sounded so far is the use of the slogan. I'd like to keep the discussion more down to earth, if that better suits you?
Trying to amp up the emotions shows that you can't win in the logical sphere.
"You realize Germany could have taken the nation had Hitler actually listened to his commanders in ref to the offensive that evntually led to Stalingrad?"
Too bad Hitler was in power. The failed assassinations shows he was pretty rooted in power. I think several alternative histories (if you will) could still include hitler at the top. And yes, I know, hitler screwed the german military - some argue he may be solely responsible for germany losing ww2. Without him, it's difficult to say.
The 'rommel being fuhrer' is an idealistic dream though; possibly even a neo-nazi talking point in some circles.
"For the second time in this post, the events in the movie occurred in Russia. So yes, defensive. Until the tide turned, that is...."
Simplification. The idealistic polar differences between communism and nazi-fascism suggests that russia could have invaded germany without an eastern front. That would have been probably more tragic for the red army (though probably with less civilian casualties on the russian side). So would a russian peasant die for his country then? Or it would be because he hates germans? German civilians would be taking most of the brunt in that scenario; german civilians took a lot of the brunt anyway, once the 'tides turned' as you say.
Disclaimer; I'm not painting all russian soldiers or all german soldiers as mindless monsters. They're all individuals, and individuals have the great propensity to be misled (hence the power of collectivism throughout history; be it communism or fascism).

    • @Usammityduzntafraidofanythin
      @Usammityduzntafraidofanythin Před 7 lety

      Time traveler
What was in the document specifically? A plan? So, turns out Hitler's invasion of russia was a (foolish) pre-emptive strike? Either way, he could've easily allowed his generals to set up a defense against the invasion, but instead he decided to push for his own invasion anyway and lose most of his military.
Also, the 'they were going to invade first, here are the plans' is a common tactic in history, even if they really were planning to invade. What were the extent of the plans? It's hard to say when they'd strike. They could have been acting on vague intel. And Stalin was known to be paranoid, so chances are he tried to formulate some sort of plan for everything.
Y'know, basic questions amateur armchair historians like myself ask. Already, I can tell your claim, though plausibly accurate, is tenuous justification for what went on and hasn't changed my view.
