The left turning bikes need a bike turn box to stop and wait before they can turn left.
I would guess that the reason there is something wrong with the bike lanes is because they are going with traffic gif they decide to turn left they are going over an active traffic lane that’s still going straight?

i’m guessing that when the bikes turn left, since they were going with the traffic, will have to cycle across a couple lanes of incoming traffic
edit: great video as always- also i think a video on train stations / rail lines would be interesting

The bikes going left need to cross the traffic they initially crossed the intersection with creating 2 possible scenarios:
Yank it to the left and hope you survive or wait for the crossing trafficlights to go green to then turn left with the second flow of vehicles

Having stop lights closer to where the cars should stop forces people to stop slightly further back which reduces the chance that a car stops on the crossing past the stop line. If a light is on the other side of the road to where you need to stop then there is nothing forcing people to stop before the stop line.

Hey alpine the issue is that with the bike lane - cyclist have to cross the active traffic lanes however i have a proposal for this (if I catch u in game ill demonstrate it too with player head database) in the uk the cyclist get a 3-4 second head start on traffic using a little cyclist traffic light on the lower section of the mast, this means they can cross the active lanes before the traffic moves 👍

@@Alpine1 Yeah, I've always been interested in airports, there's just something about them that make me find them so cool. Especially when they're integrated with the public transportation of a city.
also love to see more universal architecture brought in such as Tactile Pavement for the Visually impaired & less sharp angles I know it's hard for a gridded city but lot of turns are very sharp even for people walking on the pavement

I think the problem with the cycling lane on the first intersection is that cyclist turning left can get obliterated by a truck driving straight

As a minecraft builder, I love this video. As a Dutch person, I hate it. Really nailed the north american aestetic tho!
Such turning could cause accidents as drivers have little indication if a biker would go straight or turn left, in addition if a biker does not pay attention to the lane.
watching the beginning part especially I think every city should incorporate Michigan Left’s for dividing highways / roads. Its just a lot safer and works nicer
wish you would include more dotted lines to show drivers where to turn where it isn't obvious always love making those, maybe would of loved if the road curbs were more curved as well allowing more sightlines for the drivers & maybe even shrinking the zebra crossings or removing some since it seems rather overkill even for a downtown seems cars are stopping every 30 Meters or so
I'm no expert, but I think that "elevated train line" and "train station" is actually a part of a metro system
I would live to see what could be done using create and chisels and bits from actual architects.
i find it funny that your doghouse traffic signals for left turn movements use 4-section heads as appose to 5-section heads. must be a Canadian thing.

Should raise the crosswalks to be raised with the sidewalk so pedestrians don't have to enter "car zones" but instead cars have to to enter "pedestrian zones" making them more aware of pedestrians.

as for the bike intersection in monstera, the problem with that design is that bikes making a left turn is dangerous
if a bike goes left and at the same time a car goes striaght, the car could easily hit it. this, while having to cross multiple lanes of traffic. not to mention that crossing in a bike like that is just uncomfortable as pretty much have to be like a car

It’s notorious for having awful pedestrian infrastructure in a lot of the city, NotJustBikes made a great video about it
The city is horribly car dependent as the infrastructure prioritizes cars such as the wide roads and the huge parking lots and there aren’t many pedestrian friendly areas or good public transit,there’s a really nice video by a channel called “Not Just Bikes” that explains this really well
bike-lane should be on the left side because it's cutting right in front the the truck. so if you want to keep that bike-lane like that then you'll have to have it make a right run and also making it go straight.

The trouble with cyclists turning left in this configuration is that they need to cross the lanes for motorized vehicles. Sureley no fun to do.
But also a bit concerning is bikes being in the blind spot of vehicles turning right into the bigger street, most dangerously trucks, when going straight across the bigger street.
