  • A simple alcohol stove and mug combination that is just enough to make a few 3-in-One coffees or beverages of your choice that can be carried in a pocket. Discreet in use and ideal for a day hike or bush craft outing.
The first in a series of Make Your Own Gear.
More of an assembly of parts than a true MYOG but the hope is that you will be inspired to put together your own or make suggestions as to other ways of achieving this.
    Items:-
Folding Spoon. The one shown is from a lunch box made by Sistema.
MYOG Alcohol Stove. Lid off of a jar and filled with one layer of Carbon Felt.
    Generic 300ml Titanium Mug.
Modified Titanium Esbit Stove. The tray was removed and the stove re riveted.
Random 20ml Fuel Bottle. No idea where it came from but suspect it was from a hotel bathroom, shampoo or such.
Kitchen Measuring Spoon. Not strictly necessary as the bottle cap can do the same job of measuring the alcohol.
    Mini Bic Lighter.
Cigarette lighter flint and striker mounted in a tube as a backup fire lighter.

Brewing funky IPAs in a titanium cup over a 5 day fishing trip. That's so crazy it just might work.@@EpicureanHikers

"Powdered alcohol, or Palcohol, is alcohol that's been dried and encased into sugar molecules. The substance is created through a process called “micro-encapsulation.” The sugar molecules, or cyclodextrins, absorb up to 60% of their own weight in alcohol to form the powder substance."
Why don't we see this in camping shops?

"Black out drunk in the wood, Ultralight edition". Really gives lifestraw a new meaning on the day after.

I'm surprised by how little is needed for a quick brew. Thanks for watching

@@EpicureanHikers Yeah, you inspired me. That Esbit stove I had very little desire to buy given how much soot that Esbit/hexamine makes. But this changes the calculus. I really like your kit.

Yeah nice kit but the water doesn't boil

    • @EpicureanHikers
      @EpicureanHikers  Před 2 měsíci +4

Instructions says to heat to 85°c.
Boiling isn't necessary for 2 or 3 in one coffee. Tea would need boiling and that would need slightly more fuel but it would boil.

It's probably a hotel shampoo bottle. They don't mind you taking the ones you open as they can't reuse them once opened.

I'm in the UK. Poundland of all places. Sainsbury's have it from time to time. Starbucks do a similar thing that's bulkier, a bit expensive but quite nice.
      Hope that helps.
