    Hi everyone! Here are some fun sock patterns for summer that may just have what it takes to pull me out of the sock-knitting doldrums. I so hope you enjoy! Please feel free to leave some of your own favorites in the comments!
    Edited to include remarks from my husband:

    “Hey, it’s the assless chaps of the sock world.”
    “They’re like sock dickies.”

    OK you know what I’m going to ask: What’s the pretty sweater you’re wearing? I want one!

    Thanks so much for the inspiration!! I had never thought of yoga socks for sandals.

    I live in hot Tucson and must say that my sock knitting mojo is the only mojo I can count on year round because socks never hit my lap and swelter there. As hot as Tucson is, there is air conditioning and my feet always thank me when I don my hand knit socks. Very excited for this inspiration!

    • @CrackerJuice707
      @CrackerJuice707 Pƙed rokem +3

      Same here! I've always preferred traditional knitted items but of course as you would know, Tucson is just sweltering and obviously not ideal to have a big knit blanket or a heavy cabled sweater on your lap, but socks are always my go to no matter the time of year!

      Awe Andrea. I love Tucson. My daughter went to University of Arizona and we have great memories of visiting her there.

      I totally get it! Y’all are HOT over there. My grandma and much of my family on my mom’s side is from/lives in that area and I can see where little items are the most appropriate. (Soo looking forward to getting back down to that area!)

    • @ginnyc
      @ginnyc Pƙed rokem +1

      I live in Tucson, too! We probably won't see the 80's again until September, maybe! Daytime temperatures 90 to 110's definitely require cute little socks! đŸœïžđŸ’œ

    Tayler, can you tell us about the sweater you're wearing in the video? Is it hand made or store bought? Either way can you share some details. It's super cute on you!

      Ditto from me, Tayler! I just watched 1 min of the video, paused it and came here in the comments in search for info on the sweater! I'd love to knit something like that...

    I think this info is so timely, not only because summer is around the corner, but because my feet are too hot most of the time and I need some cooler socks. I also like to have socks on most of the time. Slippers don't cut it for me:)

    You can knit any lace sock as a shortie and have summer socks lol. My favourite pattern is the Elfin Lace Socks by Iris H. They are knit toe up in a pretty and easy to memorise leaf lace pattern.

    Has anyone successfully added some sort of grippiness to house slippers/socks? I would love to knit my parents those simple house slippers but would want something that could help prevent slipping and falling for older folks.

    Yoga socks make as much sense to me as fingerless mitts! For me, the purpose of socks are to keep my toes warm. I’ve made all these and they’re really good patterns and found on Ravelry - and free 👏
My Shorty Socks, Leftover Sneaker and Simple Garter Stitch Slipper (similar to the Simple House Slipper that was previewed).

    • @WOOLNEEDLESHANDS
      @WOOLNEEDLESHANDS  Pƙed rokem

      I can see that. My husband made that very clear to me as well. He called them the “assless chaps” of the sock world. They’re not for everyone. 😅

    I'm knitting my first pair of shorties right now! They're pretty basic. I'm using my messed up variation on Hermione's Everyday socks. I figure I'll double up the cuff to make it sturdy and soft. Hoping it will go well!
    I love the pom pom slippers!!! I typically don't wear socks in the house, but if I had a nice pair of slippers, I think I would wear them!

    More for the to-do list! I was gifted some merino wool and the colours weren't my fave so I made some shorties to wear around the house. This spring I wore them in sneakers and they were sooo comfortable. Now I think I will make a few more pairs cause they are good when I'm behind in my pedicure schedule.

    What a great idea for a ramble. I love knitting socks in the summer because (you already know this in your hot and long summers out west) you don’t have a big thick heavy shawl or sweater all over you in the summer heat. You have a small colorful fun project that is finished quickly. Summertime is the best time to knit socks. Many thanks.

    • @WOOLNEEDLESHANDS

    You mention a silk blend for socks. I do not recommend silk for summer because, even though light weight, silk is INCREDIBLY insulation and would feel significantly more warm than wool would in my opinion. A fingering-weight wool knit at a looser gauge (e.g. maybe going down a sock size but going up in needle size for a looser fabric that still fits) would be much more breathable and less... sweaty in my experience.

  • @sunrhyze
    @sunrhyze Pƙed rokem +1

    I would recommend also considering the Jelly Rolls by Mara Catherine Bryner. Really cute, and my only warning would be to go up a needle size for the slip stitch stripey part in the middle of the foot (I don't remember if the pattern recommends that, but I do!). This is another sock that lets you use up small amounts of many colors.

    Fun, inspiring episode! I actually knit socks every summer. I am a very slow sock knitter, but they are perfect projects for this time of year in terms of how much space they take up on the go, size of project bag, in your lap, etc. I really like those simple house slippers & will definitely give them a go. I recently finished the Lyne socks and love them. I also did a shortie version of the Mercury socks, a simple lace pattern. The Journey socks are great summer socks too. I wear wool+nylon socks year round on 12 hour nursing shifts and they are the best.

  • @aknitlife

    Hi Tayler: I’ve knitted the Simple House Slippers for myself and my daughter. They are awesome. I wear them to bed and some times during the day in the colder months with slippers do I don’t wear them out on my hard floors.
    I’ve knitted over three dozen socks for two years ever since I learned how during the lockdown. Previous to that I had a few failed attempts, unfortunately. Sock knitting really helped me weathered the pandemic because it is so engaging.
    I don’t mind knitting socks in the summer, provided I don’t have more pressing obligation gifts knitting or tough to understand sweater patterns. I usually knit for other knit worthy people who get cold feet in the winter.
    Thanks for sharing! Happy knitting! ❀❀

    I recently made some open tie flip flop socks. They're fantastic. My toes can still grip my sandals. No pattern, just a shadow wrap heel and single rib toes. One third of the stitches go to the big tie and short rows to make it shorter around the pinky toe. I highly recommend making the toes personalized for one's feet in this case as there are so many types of toes.

I hadn’t worked with bamboo before and the price was good so I gave it a try. Now I’m looking forward to trying other brands of Bamboo
if you try any, let me know what you think! Thanks!
