- Everybody dies. I haven’t given it a go just yet but I know a little bit about the traditions around death and funerals here in Japan.
Lots of CZcamsrs in Japan give you a slice of life here in Japan, but I wanted to be the first to let you see a slice of … death?
Come join me on a journey throughout a Japanese person’s life as well as a journey into the afterlife!
I also will show you Tohoku’s biggest funeral hall and all the things that go into organising a Japanese funeral.

My last supper would be Curry Katsudon!! Not gonna lie, the casket looks comfy!!🍛⚰️

I'm surprised one of us hasn't ended up in a coffin yet after all of our ridiculous trips.
Fascinating video!
He didn't give you a heart, hahahaha.
😅all the series of JAJ..is an opportunity for Ryotaro to work his plan out....and he did admit it in this video ..for proof 👍
If you keep doing these "taste everything unhealthy in Japan" videos with CdizzleVA, you may not have long to wait. 😂
Imagine dying from over-consumption of Japanese chrisps, alcohol and karage.
@@Catgodray probably because he’s 5 days or so late he just ain’t seen it yet

*unless you’re Chris*
This post was made by the Ryotaro-san gang
You've got that right
Isn't Sharla single?
“Oh no, you died”
Unless you’re the queen of England.
I wonder how Chris Broad would react.
@@cyntogia Sharla and Chris are dating for sure. She even moved to Sendai where Chris lives

Get in the coffin, Shin-Ryotaro.
„A face only a mother could love“ LOL best Chris comment ever
I screamed
The editing on this was on point with the comedy and timing.
Did he get a new script or did he get better. That was jokes after jokes.
He's gone beyond the level of a super saiya-jin. 😮
Stop being a little shit, granddad!
I definitely agree
Literally laughed out loud when Ryotaro mocked the foreigner priest's japanese
I figuratively laughed out loud at your comment.
need more of that honestly, was laughing so hard when he does the expression in chris' video talking about that one mascot, and now this
Yeah, I love hamburgers, lol.
@@namenotfound3613 Yes! I call it the Kumamon voice 😂
@@becca9569 kumAMon wA kUMaMoTo kArA KimAShIta 😂
My friend actually does this (being a priest at weddings in Japan) as a part time job (yes he's an English teacher too)
That Evangelion end credits theme song was the icing on the cake on this one! My favorite part aside from the terrific writing!
He even measures your coffin before he slays you. What a thorough Assassin he is.
Chris will be livid if he finds out that you made it out alive.
I’m from South Africa and I’m intrigued by how similar our customs are. The night vigil with the deceased, the belief in the deceased remaining as guardians if respected properly, and the burial of family in the same place 😱❤️
This was a great watch, I love how Japan has a buffet approach to religion.

BTW that has got to be the most posh hearse I've ever seen in 13:25 . Probably costs a fortune just to rent that for a funeral.
"What happens if you die? Nobody knows."
FIN
Best part of the video. 😆
What's FIN?
Yep! Some really good bits in this one!
@@greentea3947 it’s just means “End” (it’s French, if I recall).
@@TATOOINETABLEFLIP thanks
I also love how Ryotaro teases Chris relentlessly. True friendship!!!
You really have a talent for seeking out interesting foreign (to me) cultural pieces. Great video man
More parents need to say “stop being a little sh*t” these days ! Haha . Great video .. I learned a lot .
Lmfao 😂seriously tho right!? Definitely agree with you 💯👍
Honestly, agreed. Calling the kid it constantly is obviously terrible, but if a kid is genuinely being a brat, I reckon calling them out on their bullshit is the best method.
Educating. People tend to ignore death when it's a part of life
So true 👍, dead on comment 💀
Explaining the cycle of life by showing how the Japanese in general embraces the different faiths . Well done #Ryotaro's_Japan. ( Liked the way you added Chris @0:49 , @2:47 , and @13:22 . It shows the friendship you have for each other).
I think it's actually Chris himself who added Chris, I suspect he's the one editing the videos.
The relationship an executioner and prey share is indeed special
A face only a mother could love! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 I watched an amazing Japanese film called Departures. Beautiful film 🥰
I still remember the time I accidentally walked into a funeral ceremony at Sensoji temple. I thought it was some afternoon prayer. Nope. Someone died and I sat in the back and watched a funeral. 10/10. Would recommend.
There are some western traditions where family members are buried in the same grave site. Their coffins would be placed one on top of the other, or even side by side if there is enough space. The burial can be in the ground or within a wall of a building.
Sitting up with the dead used to be done in the states as well as recently as the sixties.
@@RodBeauvex it’s still done in Ireland
@@RodBeauvex For sure, and in the loved ones own home, it was a fairly common practice here in the Southeastern part of the US, as some believed it helped the loved ones soul get to heaven being more comfortable in familiar surroundings , and by staying to watch the body it was to help ward off the Devil's minions.
I run a senior center for a non profit, and have been doing it for almost 17 years now, and I've heard several stories about having to sit up with the bodies till the funeral the next day over the years from my clients, and I'm like no thank you, and I'm glad I did not have to do it when my father, step father, and grandmother all died several years ago not too far apart from each other.
Wow, that was fantastic. Gotta say, I followed you because of Abroad in Japan, but your content completely stands on its own now!
You're one of a kind, Ryotoro.
I've never experienced such a lovely blend of western and eastern comedic styles in one well edited and timed video. I can die happy now.
Something I don't see many other 'life in japan' channels really covering. Thanks for this!
Love how more confident Ryotaro is in making this video, showcasing his humor. ❤️
As a funeral director in America, I found this very informative and entertaining! Thank you for this presentation. Can I visit the funeral facility when I come to Japan?
Im sure you can as long as you book an appointment .
Another fascinating video.....baby Chris will haunt my dreams tho.
I saw a video of Chris on robot wars and it's surprising how little his face has actually changed.
And after this video, I'm incapable of imagining him any way else
A face only a mother can love 😄
Hearing about the Obon tradition is always heartwarming to me because I learned about it directly from my best friend from Japan. It reminds me of her, her sister, and the amount of belief that I have that they’ll make all their ancestors proud.
This title just exudes Ryotoro. Excitedly but casually stating that he can access a funeral, film it etc becsud thats just what his power and influence allows.
This is your best video so far - highly informative and funny as hell!
"What happens when you die? Nobody knows. The end." 😂 👍
Great and interesting content, I have never heard about these Japanese traditions anywhere else. Though dealing with a serious subject, the (respectful) humour made it easy to watch. Would love to see more vids like this on your channel! 👏👏👏
Thank you for showing me this side of Japanese culture. Have to say that an old love for Japan and it's people has been re ignited between you, Chris and Sharla and all who are in your videos. Always wanted to travel there in my younger years but never got the chance. Seeing your lovely country through these videos has been a blessing.
This was hilarious and also genuinely interesting. Thanks for sharing, Ryotaro!
This was a great video and very informative. Thank you. In the Maori culture it is very similar here in New Zealand.
Thank you so much for making a video on Japanese funerals. This is something I've long been curious about but have only seen in movies. It's so nice to see what they may look like in real life.
“It’s time to accept JESUS”

Kim Jong-un never edits his posts because he is always right the first time!
Didn't your sister take over the country?
@@Mark-OutWest That's why he's posting here. He's now got too much free time now that his sister has taken over his job of executing political enemies with artillery guns.
Wow! Ryotaro has all kinds of fans. Ryotaro is loved by world leafers everywhere.
I think your great-grandpa accepted Jesus, right? I mean, your grandpa was not that creative so he had to have gotten the ideas of a living god from somewhere.
Out of all the videos on this channel, this is by far the best one in my opinion. The presentation is immaculate, the content is interesting and unique, and the quality of the editing is impressive to say the least. Really good stuff!
Really wonderfully made, educational video about this topic. Thank you.
I'm an American living in Japan and my husband is Japanese. This past obon was my first time to visit his grandfather's grave. I had no idea until then that there were multiple people's ashes in each stone head.
I always enjoy your videos on this channel, but I also hope to see more of you on Abroad in Japan soon too!
Ryotaro's "Japanese doing an American doing a Japanese accent" kills me XD
Same here! And I laughed really hard at this one (if you know what he’s really saying it’s even more hilarious!)
an aspect that's rarely shown in a video, thank you for all of your content and of course, your sense of humor
This was very educative! I learned many new things. Thank you Ryotaro!
This was really interesting and enjoyable to laugh through it. Thank you!
I love videos like this that are informational while also going out and seeing it up close. keep it up :)
Really enjoyed this one. Very funny and informative!
That was really excellent. Many thanks Ryotaro.
Oh man, I laughed so much during this. Well-done! Fascinating and great video~
Rigatoni's editing style has improved so much 😀🤣
(Good stuff man!)
Loved this one, really good video.
Thank you Ryotaro for the informative and impactful video.
I love watching videos about Japan’s customs and culture, and it’s been a while since i have not learned something new! Thank u Ryotaro san, u rock 😍 let’s all go haunt Chris together
I have a funeral service degree currently working on getting my funeral directing license. It's interesting and informative comparing Japanese culture and practices with western culture.
Very interesting video, thanks Ryotaro!
Best vid yet Ryotaro, fantastic.
Once again thank you Ryotaro for the incredible content, I prefer learning everything about Japanese culture through your channel. The videos are fun and enjoyable to watch, many thanks.
Fantastic video! It was funny, informative and I enjoyed watching it 👍🏼
This was interesting. Indians also have some similar customs- spending time with the body, cremating and picking up the bones post cremation and finally, the prayer meet where the family gathers and spends time.
Very informative video! Loved the excellent quality!
Thank you Ryotaro!
Great video Ryotaro, thanks for showing us this side of Japan.
Both educational and hilarious. Loved learning about this aspect of Japanese life. Perhaps I will learn more first hand once me and my twin flame reunite in this life.
Great Ryotaro! Es increíble como un tema tan difícil, lo narrás con humor, respeto y además es educativo... おやすみ なさい Que descanses
Oh this video is sooo well made, timing and script are on point!
LOVE the chris edits & i feel honoured to have witnessed your families temple & graveside 🙏 thank you ryotoro
I lol'd when you said you personally were gonna haunt Chris for eternity from the afterlife, and then drove off in a hearse like have a nice day lol ha ha ha.
Preparing Chris for the worst, eh? 'Cause he's been real quiet since this video dropped... *ominous risottoro noises closing in on Sendai*
This was super interesting! Thank you for sharing!!!
So glad to have you back, Risottoro! Entertaining and informative!
Mate I choked on my drink when I read the title ahhahaha
Legendary Thumbnail right there
Fascinating and funny! Great job, Ryotoro!
Brilliant video! Your best so far! You guys rock! 🍻
Love the references to Monty Python's The Meaning of Life, Dragon Ball, and Neon Genesis Evangelion.
"What dying in Japan is like"
*Ryotaro pulls out a glock*
Glock? The Japanese/British James Bond uses a silenced Walther PPK, standard issue to all 00's.
@@hitachicordoba of course, how could I have been so foolish?
@@hitachicordoba no no, that is not the way of Japan. He will just deep fry his enemies and serve them like family mart fried chicken.
Fascinating video. Thank you so much for making this.
Thanks for a great video, Ryotaro! Keep it up!
Thanks Ryotoro, I always wanted to know what it's like to die in Japan 🧐👌
I've been _dying_ to know how's the funeral in Japan. Now I know xD
Poor Chris, he didn't know Ryotaro has been roasting him... Oh that might be why he's losing weight
Chris even recommend people to watch this
Well done! Informative and entertaining!! Thank you!
both beatiful and funny video, nice one Ryotaro!
I crack everytime he says "Welcome to Ryotaro japan"
“oops, look at that now you are dead” got me good
This was top notch. So much effort put in and it shows.
This was so well done. Loved it.
are you and chris fighting or something? Reason I ask is you haven't been in "Abroad in japan" for a while. I loved this video and it gave me insight on how death is experience in the land of the rising sun.
He appears in my video as a baby for a second and I will appear in his video property for 10 mins and it will come out soon! Thanks for your concern though!
Yeah, he just mentioned on the podcast that he's doing a video with Ryotaro
@@RyotarosJapan I'm surprised he didn't appear as a corpse to be honest. I guess a whiney baby is more fitting.
@@rampager1990 A whiney swearing baby.
@@rampager1990 I don't know if he'd fit in that coffin...
Your camera man is really good you should give him a raise!
This was very well done and informative, Ryotaro.
Great video! Very educational and entertaining!

I want to get married with the priest saying "hamburger ga daisuki desu"
Great video, definitely love this style from Ryotaro.
This was so fun to watch, I feel like I learned a lot :)
Also, the humor was top notch!
It seems Ryotaro still hasn't successfully assassinated Chris yet.
That would've been an epic idea to showcase how japanese funerals work
If he's shopping for caskets, it can't be long now. He's going to need a wider box, though...
"Ryotaro was dying to make this video"
damn it.
Fantastic video. Thank you for sharing!
Really interesting video! Great work.
I would DIE to have this experience! (Pun intended)
I'm waiting for the Chris v. Ryotaro boxing match. There's only one way this feud can end.
Dude this is a comedy goldmine, awesome job Ryotaro!!!
Really enjoyed this episode. Funny and educational. 👍👍
