  • Freedom Planet was one of my favorite indie games of the 2010s and now its time to go over its sequel released a few months ago. Freedom Planet 2 is one of the best 2d platforming games I've played in a while and I think if your interested you defiantly need to check it out!

Askal's whole thing was that he's a mutt being part Earth Dragon and part . . . well an Askal. Because of this he was apparently slandered a lot with one of the three NPC guards apparently showing the most contempt for him. He had a thing for Neera that he never showed until the volcano (which was post betrayal making it the absolute worst time to play that card). He also harbors a strong resentment to the Magister, probably because of the hidden history.

I think I know which NPC your talking about cause I remember randomly talking to one then after his betrayal and them saying “I always knew he was evil!”. I thought he was kind of being an asshole I didn’t fully realize that Askal had all that stuff going on.
I figure him mentioning being a half earth dragon it would be a plot important element but when it never came up again in the main cutscenes so I kinda forgot about it.
Thanks for letting me know about this!

Yeah… Askel has a lot of dialogue you can miss at the tavern, unless have a meal with him.
Especially after certain missions, he is only willing to talk to you “if” you get a meal together, the “light 💡” that he has new unread dialogue unlocked doesn’t even appear until you both get a meal!😅
So… it’s good to talk as much as possible before rescuing Zao, ”by having meals of course”. (He must be a meal only talker? I guess that would explain a lot. 😅 How were we supposed to know?)
Also, certain characters sometimes never have a “light 💡“, making it hard tell if they have something new to say. Like the volcanologist at adventure square.
Also, some background items change dialog after beating the game, especially the “water-dragon history museum”. Something special to investigate with each character after a cleared game!!! 😊

You know, I’m fairly certain that Askal is the cause of a decent chunk of own discrimination, because he definitely acts like a “mangy pup.” He chooses to let it get to him and internalizes it, twisting his own personality into something sour and bitter, getting hissy at those that haven’t even wronged him. I mean the rudest thing one of the protagonists says is “Whoah you’re tall…” (not even remotely close to an insult) and he tells them all to basically “screw off.” Bruh they did actually nothing to you.
And I love how he ends up proving the Battlesphere correct in denying his participation, calling his strength an “unfair advantage.” Askal scoffs like they’re just doing it out of hostility. But the man shows at Diamond Point (his boss level) that he has power comparable to King Bumi from Avatar the Last Airbender (Strongest Earth Bender on planet next to Toph). Completely and totally overpowered.
Just look at other Battlesphere champions and participants we know of.
Jade, the stylish and elegant Spearman who eventually was forced to retire to to Skyrim City Guard syndrome. (Bullet to the knee.)
General Gong, Girth personified, with a fighting style based on Speed and Defense.
Captain Kalaw, an aerial acrobat equipped with a mini tornado generator.
And Spade did a run or two apparently.
These guys are peak physical condition. Someone who breaks all known natural boundaries by merely existing should actually be denied entry when compared to the others.

Honestly that's why I had troubles trying to come up with Askals reasonings. Part of the problem is that all of the new enemies have questionable motives to follow Merga with the only relatable thing the five of them have is being from Parusa.
Askal hates the elite but as you say most of his problems are self inflicted and aside from two instances, there's no real sign of discriminations. If there was more of this shown, then his lines towards Lilac would hit closer to home.
Cory probably said no to Merga in the beginning until the latter of the two "Changed her Mind". But this isn't shown well.
AAA seems to lack the basics of his backstory other than he grew up in Paradise Prime followed with "It all started on the day of my actual birth, Both of my parents failed to show up".
And Kalaw just flat out wanted to be a real hero. Now one could argue that there's bad blood between Shang Tu and Parusa still but that's not shown very well either.
This is where Brevon worked so much better because he was flat out cruel and ruthless. His goals were all off-world with Avalice just being a bumpy stepping stone (Which ended up being a derailing kind of bump in the end).
Serpentine can play off of Brevon's Presence so he's set for life. I feel that in attempting to make more relatable enemies, Galaxy Trail fumbled a little in making their motivations work.

1:10 I’ve played the whole game, even restored the art-gallery fully to get access to the game-development room, read the wiki, and even talked to… Sunny & Amila after beating the game & noticed…
… while the first game was “Sonic inspired”… The continuation of the series appears to want to be “beyond” sonic inspired like the wiki says at some points of character design upgrades/changes, and character growth explained in the exclusive game-developers room you can unlock. I even talked to the npc’s Sunny & Amila after beating the game, and they explained sonic related dreams they had and asked questions about what was next on adventures that were already done in sonic media comics(old & new) & the 90s television series, even a love triangle between Sammy & Amila?(Sammy is a npc at the art-museum, Sunny has said he’s forgotten a wedding present for his/her wedding).
Just what are the game developers planning for the “Freedom Planet” franchise??? Especially if they are planning on doing things… difficulty???????????

Yep… I just love the gameplay & story of this game! I definitely love all the cutscenes with voice acting & humorous dialog. (Some I can never forget like “Raisins”, lol 😂) (Carole has definitely a lot of humor, lol 😂… “short-stuff = Aaa”… and the countless puns/jokes, totally worth it as the final character I played!!!)
Neera is definitely a hard character to play as, but since my game usually crashed in early development after visiting the “Royal Palace” after the first two stages, until I uninstalled & reinstalled, I tasted each character’s moves to make up for this, and waited for most bug fixes while watching others play-live on streams…
As a result I wanted to play Neera second (After Lilac), since knowing how to use all her moves was key to beating the game with her & had the most combos of moves! Definitely difficult at “platforming, as proven to reach certain & all level treasures,… but filled to the brim with an army-swiss-knife of capability’s!!!🤯😱👻 3-4 energy bar attacks!?! Short & long ranged attacks!?! An unique attack & animation in 3 different directions!?! … I had to know how to use each & every one of them, sometimes especially precisely at certain times to “corkscrew through/fast” “freeze” & “blizzard-upwards” or ***“ice pillar deflect” at the right moments!!!… It was hard but worth it!
I wanted to master Neera’s moves & achievements secondary before they weren’t something I was unskilled at & got over-with, and I was quite sure I was already going to be good at the game with the rest of the characters. Since I already was skilled with them from FP1. But I think it skyrocketed my skills with the other characters once I started playing as the rest!!!😅 & finished with the last 2 characters (Milla & Carol) with “everything” very fast, but easily with tones more “full fun than ever!!!”🎉
(I have friends & family in the cop/guard job-hood, so I definitely know the stories of “going to hell & back” in work/line of duty, and her storytelling & gameplay is very similar to just that!!! It gets stressful in reality, and they really need all the friends/family support they need & can get!!!)
Edit:*** yes, “ice pillars” can barrier & deflect projectiles especially Merga’s!, and be used to harm enemies below you like in the last Battle Arena Challenge, with enemies below you!!! (Needed a tutorial to pass those with a high-rank & etc.)

  • @WildonVantrix
    @WildonVantrix Před rokem

The game has updated a lot since this video, and I think some new things are worth checking-out!!!
Not long ago 2 cool new areas were added on the map to try with each character. A tutorial area on guarding & dodging in Shugang depending on the character, has at least on character specific tip on guarding/dodging… which I really wanted to know especially for Neera & Milla!!!
Also new in Shugang a camp-shop was added run by Cloe to buy items with gold gems if you get stuck fighting Serpentine, since you can’t return to Shugang until you beat him. It should still be there even after you beat him, Cloe has some special dialog even though it doesn’t say so with a “light 💡”.
Some character attacks have been updated in damage balance & ability (Carol now slashes rapidly with her regular claw attack by holding the attack-button.) & new item(s) like the “petal armor”(see what it grants in game to not spoil it).
Also some more time ago, a new results screen was added, with a new no hit/damage bonus & animated counting upwards percentage of you bonus shards. (depending on the items used & stocks(aka. called lives) used up… it’s always worked this way and saw vids explaining this)
(elemental shields damage never counted as hits/damage & still do, try using the shield up potion fully, that’s 7 instead of 2 shield points, existed since the beginning of the game & still will, best way to get everything out of a “one hit k. o.” stone & it’s gigantic bonus! just don’t die once from beginning to end, or you will need to restart)
    P. S. I forgotten you can talk to the magister in Shang Mu in the city hall after beating the game, and will now direct you where to find the book of horticulture in that library he mentioned… and can read it now. (Be Warned, What’s written in it is a little “DARK”…
I even wanted to rewatch all the time-capsules I collected to remind me that I “did the right thing” in the game!!! & be reminded collecting them all and getting the more peaceful happy ending very good thing!!!

      1) Several people in the FP community is suppressing people who disagree w/ them (mostly so they can stay on GT's good side).
      2) Storywise, Milla had developed a bit (she's the least problematic as her story was OK at best) while Carol has been dramatically downgraded from the first game (as in the first game, Carol essentially grounds Lilac as a reality check), Lilac is more of a whiner than a hero (which in FP1, she grew into over time) and Neera isn't at all that interesting. The True Ending was about a forced romantic relationship (it's not natural as the devs would want you to believe; honestly, I believe it would be better off if Merga/Cordelia were just friends and if they want romance, build up from there or for a tragic flavor, have Cordelia dead. Honestly, I think having Cordelia dead would had worked out better for an ending.
Merga doesn't even bother referencing about Cordelia in her campaign to 'purify the world' and plus, neither the Magister brings up about his missing daughter ONCE which makes you wonder.
Additionally, we only get the Audio Logs perspective as Cordelia, nobody else, only Cordelia. Now, if it was done by separate individuals instead of Cordelia all the time (Cordelia did mention Pearlas to which we haven't seen before in one of her logs), it would had been more interesting. They did get it right with the Dragon Scientist and the Magister but still.
      3) Merga and Bakunawa are a joke of a threat. I do not sympathize with Merga at all and the fact that the developers pulled a fake out on 'devouring the moon' doesn't help either. She should had the moon 'devoured' and Lilac and the others need to get it back or something as it would had tie a nice narrative ribbon to the game.
      4) The themings of this game has been botched and it shows. If you are going to write something with serious subject manners, do your research and treat it with the proper respect.
Even the first game had more punch to the entire 'actions have consequences' theming with Brevon and it worked out fine.
      5) Askal had the potential to be a good antagonist and I feel sorry for him than with Merga who is an irredeemable monster. I did like Aaa's ordeal but wasn't a fan of Corazon.
      6) The item system is broken. FP2 tries to make itself known as an RPG-like but the thing is that FP1 had this system in and it worked out better (remember the customizable stuff Torque had (if you played the beta because he was supposed to be released but wasn't due to GT's laziness?). Additionally, FP2 had a lot of cut material that would had been interesting (It's the case of they kept in the bad stuff and tossed the good stuff essentially but to each their own).
      7) In addition of the item system, more in the terms of upgrades could had been done. There were plans to do that with the Star Shard objects but they were cut.
      8) Gameplaywise, the mech sections (even for as cool as they are) should had been cut and it's just a schmup level when needed & Neera does has the biggest amount of nonsense to deal with when it comes to things. Milla, Lilac and Carol are fine as is in 2 and additionally, they really should had kept the upgrades but atleast give Lilac a better upgrade than something she got when she was in Pangu Lagoon of all things.
Perhaps her Wings would had been better because it doesn't break anything.
      9) As someone that has listened to 2's OST, it's a mixed bag and isn't as memorable as the 1st game's OST. Yes, I admit there are some bangers but it's not as strong however the beta of FP2 has some gems that still carries on the spirit of the first game. FP's identity has been established as this epic action-adventure platformer and it has lost that identity to an extent.
      10) FP2 has destroyed the one thing it had going in the original: consistency (to an extent, moreso with the history of the dragons which is from outer space), however, since it's a reboot, none of that matters anymore which is not a very good sign for what is to come in the future.

      @@runezunn6655
      1) I have no frame of reference for this cause I’m not really in most gaming communities other than like Pokémon or Halo since their my two most favorites. So I don’t know about the suppression of more negative reviews, I have seen a few negative reviews but I haven’t seen the comment sections be too crazy mad at them and in some cases I saw the Developers thank them for feedback. Again I’m a very surface level fan I’m not in the trenches if theirs a war going on.
      2) I was kind of into how Lilac, Carol, and Mills were portrayed in this game. I can see why you felt that Lilac was more whiny or Carol was acting different. But I think that he a lot to do with what going on and with how young are characters are supposed to be. Like their older than FP1 but there still like late teens and thats a very brash age and that combined with a lot stress is going to make them act out. Like Lilac snapping in one or two cutscenes is realistic cause she is young and dealing with some really messed up stuff. I won’t disagree much about Neera I liked it but it feels this more her catching up to the others character wise. Which I can understand as she was a side character going into a Main character.
Merge and Cordelias relationship is primarily built up in the audio logs that’s why they centered around cordelia. Who would be the only person to really describe Merga as who she truly is when she ain’t trying blow up worlds. If merga had mentioned Cordelia in the main plot I feel like that might complicated things a bit too much.
Freedom Planet 2 is already a very cutscene heavy game which is kind of weird for a 2d platformer. It probably would’ve got too complicated to have Cordelia in the main game, and I think Merga works as a decent antagonist without Cordelia so probably best to keep on the side as a teaser to lead into Freedom Planet 3 or somthing.
Also isn’t the magister like her descendant? They make a point to say he’s really young and the dialogue is written like the magister was born after the war and only knew about it from his grandpa or somthing. I mean he even reacts to her audio logs being found like it was an ancient book George Washington or somebody wrote.
      3) I agree about the fake out, in a comedic it’s kind of funny to have her fail I would’ve loved to have seen her reaction then let serpentine make fun of her. But the game played it straight even after it failed so I agree that was a bit off.
Merga is one of those characters that I can understand why they do the things they do but I’m not sure I sympathize. Like I feel for her but she keeps sticking to the genocide plan even when the characters give her out so I can’t feel super bad about fighting her. And I think that’s the point Merga is just not somebody you can talk down unless your extremely close to her, so her coming around after Cordelia message worked for me.
      4) Yeah I really can’t argue how accurate or inaccurate this part of the game is. I can say the book burning stuff was pretty historically accurate but everything else…. Yeah I’m not well versed enough to say how well done it is.
      5) I was just kind of meh on these three. I think they could’ve dived a bit deeper about Askals issues though I didn’t even realize what made him an outcast til a comment on here explained it to me.
      6) I can kind of see what your saying but I personally really like how the item system is implemented as more of a make your own difficulty sort of thing. And I have actually played with Torque in the beta, he was probably my favorite of the characters too play! Though I’m not sure how his gimmick of unique ammo would’ve worked for the girls. Since they already have an elemental item they can buy for their moves.
7)Yeah I looked into the Star Shards and they do seem pretty interesting but I don’t know if they would’ve been interesting enough when compared to the different potions and items. Especially Neeras since her Ice stuff last forever as is unless it’s a boss.
8)The only thing is disagree with here is the Mech, but I’m biased as hell when it comes to those. BTW there is a mod that adds the wings back but I’ve not tried for myself yet.
      9) Yeah I’ve heard about this being an issue and I’ve seen devs talk acknowledge it. I personally am not a huge music guy, as long as there are fees bangers that probably enough to satisfy me. (Still rock out to that Minor boss theme)
      10) What do u mean by reboot? Like the game takes place after FP1 with the same heros and villains and while being a 2D platformer. I’m just confused about how this would be considered a reboot when the only things that come to mind for something like that is like Ninja Gaiden or something similar.

@@Chubby_Bubby Well I'm glad we had met in the middle of these issues as usually some people in the FP fanbase would dismiss what the first game's fans has to say.
      2) No, it says in the Avalice Archives (FP Wiki) that Cordelia is the Magister's daughter.
      5) I saw that it has been mentioned before in the comments.
      8) I'm just not a fan of those slowdown sections & yeah, you should check the Wings mod out. The author of those mods has done wonders to fit-in the missing pieces of FP2 swimmingly. 🥰
      9) I'm not going to lie but I actually do enjoy the Minor boss theme (Street Knuckle is my big fav.)
      10) In FP1 with the Dragon Scientist ordeal, the Dragons were from space and crash landed on Avalice. Before their arrival, Avalice had no dragons and in FP2, it has been retconned that the dragons always had lived on Avalice (aka the water dragons / oceandwellers) and the Earth Dragons had came from space. So this is technically a retcon to the original lore of the Dragons and therefore is a soft reboot on their part.

      2) I just read his bio on the wiki and now that I know that he was there I’m super confused! Like how did he not know all this stuff before reading the book especially if he was there probably listening to his daughter plea for peace on the other side. I genuinely thought they were making a point about him being young to show that he wasn’t there and he only knows about Cordelia and the war from what his Elders told him. Now it’s just weird that he didn’t react to Cordelia or too the war in a more personal way. Like why didn’t Merga atleast say somthing about him being her lovers father?
      10) Yeah I can see what you mean thats definitely a retcon. Though they do dance around it with the Water Dragons kinda being there own thing before the earth dragons subjugated them and gave them all that title. This aspect will probably be cleaned more in a future release if that post credit scene is anything to go by.
