I first heard this song about 15 years ago. At the time I was still visiting my father in prison for murder. I finally ask him to tell me exactly what happened that night and realised he was one "of the wicked that knew in advance." He passed away in his cell a few years later. He is literally dancing with the devil now in his cold cell block. I thought I was keeping him alive in there with my contact. Maybe I was. When I got the call I was like do I feel guilty then I stopped myself. No. By "supporting" him I've lost everyone in my family. I can't regret it, I was 10. But 29 years later, (in a couple of weeks) my life has certainty since felt empty and cold. I love the music to this song too, the piano is amazing!
I had forgot about this song, ended up listening to it again and ended up on the comments. You thought you were doing the right thing sticking by your dad, I too spent loads of years in prison. Was only for a fight that got out of hand and I stabbed a bad guy, shit happens. I hope you get the peace you deserve, whatever happened there with your Dad wasn't your fault ❤️✌️
Hey there, I really appreciate your response. It means a lot. Dad once had a friend who had a phone. I ended up talking to him a bit, too. He was also in there for something similar. Yeah I thought I was doing the right thing (& maybe I was). He tried really hard when I was born. Stopped hanging out with everyone, stopped drinking. He used to take me to judo everyday when he was well. When he started to get unwell I think he would purposely do bad things to go away for a while. I know he loved me a lot. I have a lot of resentments however I am working a program. I have finished a degree etc etc. I am determined to find that peace in my head and life. Thank you. I have been thinking for days now about how to reply to you. I know its not my fault and I made my decisions with best intentions. I hope you are doing ok. Shit does happen indeed. I also hope you have found some peace too ❤ ☺️

It doesn't. A dance with an entitled human thinking he is the Devil because he "killed" will be surprised to find out that in hell you don't kill, but your self and your want to keep acting the way you are. Also, did he go to jail since he said that "I was there?"

I've listened to hip hop for over 30 years. This track has me spun for real. The story telling is so vividly clear that I don't know what to do but go and do something to make myself feel better about life. Amazing music. Just... wow.
My English professor reminded me about this song. We are doing a poetry lyric assignment and the only song she requested not to be used was this song specifically. And once she said it, I instantly got chills because this song is just like so chillin to me like it just had this power over it.
No other genre can bring this type of message across with such skill, empathy and cognisance. Long live the MC, the B-Boy, the bomber, the DJ and the student!
Chill Pill Well,I wasn't giving any public opinions either :) Every commentator on youtube is a critic in his/her own rights, putting up whatever they feel is right. So did i. just chill......
Nicholas Frechen i said it earlier, critics are everywhere on youtube. I ain't arguing with one. XD I've been listening to both these songs for about 9-10 years, and there's something about the way slim raps those verses that make me like stan more. Believe me i haven't got anything against immortal technique but 'STAN' is better in lots of ways irrespective of the popularity factor of 1 over the other.
When I was locked up in Maryland and we ain’t have a radio, between me and my next door celly, we wrote like 6 pages of these lyrics. It was the only song we could recite word for word and it got me through it!
"And he remembered how his mom used to come home late, working hard for nothing, 'cause now what was he worth?" This is the single hardest-hitting line. If you had a parent that tried their best to give you something more and you threw it away you'd understand how devastating this is.
It’s 2024, I’m 17, and it’s 3:25am on a Monday and I just listened to this. I’m appalled, shocked, blown away, disgusted, and amazed. Masterful work and amazing visuals.

This song is garbage. I used to like it when I was younger because it was dark and edgy, now I listen and cringe. The lyrics are subpar, the composition is muddled, the beat is weak. Nothing about this song is good besides the emotion of the first listen when you hear the twist at the end. Its a cringefest from there. It's edgelord rap.
Magnus Brix this is one of the best story telling songs ever you don’t have to like it and put it on your playlist but you have to at least understand that it’s one of the best storytelling songs out there, i can literally imagine everything that he is saying clearly which is what makes it a great song
I first heard this 14 years ago now I'm turning 34 next week. Still one of the few songs over a decade and a half later that still gives me goosebumps.
"Basically the whole song is a metaphor about how we are fucking up society by dealin, raping and killing. The song isn't about a kid who rapes his mother it's about a kid who fucks his life up by doing a load of shit and what immortal is trying to say is that this kind of shit happens in everyday life. And no tech didn't rape an innocent woman, that's just part of the metaphor saying that he fucked up in his earlier life too and that doing a load of shit you regret in the future will stay with you forever."
+WeActOnImpulse Official he said everything in this story was true except the he didn't rape a woman but who in their right mind would admit to rape. So no one will ever know ;)
+WeActOnImpulse Official he said in an interview he regretted saying that. that never happen. the story is realistic fiction. it's compose of what happens in the hood. he said things like this happen but instead of a mom it's a cousin for example. so yeah the whole song is just about not taking a path to self destruction

Exquisite. Not a single breath wasted; each imbued with meaning, purpose. A message delivered by an angel not fallen (angel means messenger). More need to hear this profound insight expressed with music/rythym that can capture and hold ones attention as the words and story draw you deeper into the bleak, tragic and sad reality too many fall prey to. I hope this is spread far and wide; that it finds its way among the antithesis it shines its light upon.

The question is, was it really his mother, or did he see his mother in the eyes of that woman and realize how far down he'd fallen. That was somebody's mother.
@@seekeroftruth69I feel like it was HIS biological mother because in the line right after he goes, “And he remembered how his mom used to come home late, Working hard for nothing, 'cause now what was he worth?” Meaning that SHE (his mom) was probably heading home from her job. And after that, it’s “He turned away from the woman that had once given him birth” which adds to the thought, But that’s what I take it as.
What rap should be, a warning of what the "gangsta" life will bring, and lyrically is brilliant. Instead, most of what you hear in rap is the opposite, all glorifying violence, drugs, and gangs, rapping about a bunch of shi* they never did..
[Verse 1] I once knew a nigga whose real name was William His primary concern, was making a million Being the illest hustler, that the world ever seen He used to fuck movie stars and sniff coke in his dreams A corrupted young mind, at the age of thirteen Nigga never had a father and his mom was a fiend She put the pipe down, but for every year she was sober Her son's heart simultaneously grew colder He started hanging out, selling bags in the projects Checking the young chicks, looking for hit-and-run prospects He was fascinated by material objects But he understood money never bought respect He built a reputation 'cause he could hustle and steal But got locked once and didn't hesitate to squeal So criminals he chilled with didn't think he was real You see, me and niggas like this have never been equal I don't project my insecurities on other people He fiended for props like addicts with pipes and needles So he felt he had to prove to everyone he was evil A feeble-minded young man with infinite potential The product of a ghetto-bred capitalistic mental Coincidentally dropped out of school to sell weed Dancing with the devil, smoked until his eyes would bleed But he was sick of selling trees and gave in to his greed [Hook] Everyone trying to be trife never face the consequences You probably only did a month for minor offences Ask a nigga doing life if he had another chance But then again there's always the wicked that knew in advance Dance forever with the devil on a cold cell block But that's what happens when you rape, murder and sell rock Devils used to be gods angels that fell from the top There's no diversity because we're burning in the melting pot [Verse 2] So Billy started robbing niggas, anything he could do To get his respect back, in the eyes of his crew Starting fights over little shit, up on the block Stepped up to selling mothers and brothers the crack rock Working overtime for making money for the crack spot Hit the jackpot and wanted to move up to cocaine fulfilling the Scarface fantasy stuck in his brain Tired of the block niggas treating him the same He wanted to be major like the cut-throats and the thugs But when he tried to step to 'em, niggas showed him no love They told him any motherfucking coward can sell drugs Any bitch nigga with a gun can bust slugs Any nigga with a red shirt can front like a blood Even Puffy smoked a motherfucker up in a club But only a real thug can stab someone till they die Standing in front of them, staring straight into their eyes Billy realized that these men were well-guarded And they wanted to test him before business started Suggested raping a bitch to prove he was cold-hearted So now he had a choice between going back to his life Or making money with made men, up in the cife His dreams about cars and ice made him agree A hardcore nigga is all he ever wanted to be And so he met them Friday night at a quarter to three [Hook] Everyone trying to be trife never face the consequences You probably only did a month for minor offences Ask a nigga doing life if he had another chance But then again there's always the wicked that knew in advance Dance forever with the devil on a cold cell block But that's what happens when you rape, murder and sell rock Devils used to be gods angels that fell from the top There's no diversity because we're burning in the melting pot [Verse 3] They drove around the projects slow while it was raining Smoking blunts, drinking and joking for entertainment Until they saw a woman on the street walking alone Three in the morning, coming back from work, on her way home And so they quietly got out the car and followed her Walking through the projects, the darkness swallowed her They wrapped her shirt around her head and knocked her onto the floor "This is it kid, now you got your chance to be raw." So Billy yoked her up and grabbed the chick by the hair And dragged her into a lobby that had nobody there She struggled hard but they forced her to go up the stairs They got to the roof and then held her down on the ground Screaming, "Shut the fuck up and stop moving around!" The shirt covered her face, but she screamed and clawed So Billy stomped on the bitch, 'til he broken her jaw Them dirty bastards knew exactly what they were doing They kicked her until they cracked her ribs and she stopped moving Blood leaking through the cloth, she cried silently And then they all proceeded to rape her violently Billy was made to go first, but each of them took a turn Ripping her up, and choking her until her throat burned Her broken jaw mumbled for God but they weren't concerned When they were done and she was lying bloody, broken and bruised One of them niggas pulled out a brand new twenty-two They told him that she was a witness for what she'd gone through And if he killed her he was guaranteed a spot in the crew He thought about it for a minute, she was practically dead And so he leaned over and put the gun right to her head I'm falling and I can't turn back I'm falling and I can't turn back [Verse 4] Right before he pulled the trigger, and ended her life He thought about the cocaine with the platinum and ice And he felt strong standing along with his new brothers Cocked the gat to her head, and pulled back the shirt cover But what he saw made him start to cringe and stutter 'Cause he was staring into the eyes of his own mother She looked back at him and cried, 'cause he had forsaken her She cried more painfully, than when they were raping her His whole world stopped, he couldn't even contemplate His corruption had successfully changed his fate And he remembered how his mom used to come home late Working hard for nothing, 'cause now what was he worth He turned away from the woman that had once given him birth And crying out to the sky 'cause he was lonely and scared But only the devil responded, 'cause god wasn't there And right then he knew what it was to be empty and cold And so he jumped off the roof and died with no soul They say death takes you to a better place but I doubt it After that they killed his mother, and never spoke about it And listen 'cause the story that I'm telling is true 'Cause I was there with Billy Jacobs and I raped his mom too And now the devil follows me everywhere that I go In fact, I'm sure he's standing among one of you at my shows And every street cypher listening to little thugs flow He could be standing right next to you, and you wouldn't know The devil grows inside the hearts of the selfish and wicked White, brown, yellow and black color is not restricted You have a self-destructive destiny when you're inflicted And you'll be one of god's children that fell from the top There's no diversity because we're burning in the melting pot So when the devil wants to dance with you, you better say never Because a dance with the devil might last you forever

"And he remembered how his mom used to come home late, working hard for nothing, 'cause now what was he worth?" This is the single hardest-hitting line. If you had a parent that tried their best to give you something more and you threw it away you'd understand how devastating this is.

[Verse 1]
I once knew a nigga whose real name was William
His primary concern, was making a million
Being the illest hustler, that the world ever seen
He used to fuck movie stars and sniff coke in his dreams
A corrupted young mind, at the age of thirteen
Nigga never had a father and his mom was a fiend
She put the pipe down, but for every year she was sober
Her son's heart simultaneously grew colder
He started hanging out, selling bags in the projects
Checking the young chicks, looking for hit-and-run prospects
He was fascinated by material objects
But he understood money never bought respect
He built a reputation 'cause he could hustle and steal
But got locked once and didn't hesitate to squeal
So criminals he chilled with didn't think he was real
You see, me and niggas like this have never been equal
I don't project my insecurities on other people
He fiended for props like addicts with pipes and needles
So he felt he had to prove to everyone he was evil
A feeble-minded young man with infinite potential
The product of a ghetto-bred capitalistic mental
Coincidentally dropped out of school to sell weed
Dancing with the devil, smoked until his eyes would bleed
But he was sick of selling trees and gave in to his greed
[Hook]
Everyone trying to be trife never face the consequences
You probably only did a month for minor offences
Ask a nigga doing life if he had another chance
But then again there's always the wicked that knew in advance
Dance forever with the devil on a cold cell block
But that's what happens when you rape, murder and sell rock
Devils used to be gods angels that fell from the top
There's no diversity because we're burning in the melting pot
[Verse 2]
So Billy started robbing niggas, anything he could do
To get his respect back, in the eyes of his crew
Starting fights over little shit, up on the block
Stepped up to selling mothers and brothers the crack rock
Working overtime for making money for the crack spot
Hit the jackpot and wanted to move up to cocaine
fulfilling the Scarface fantasy stuck in his brain
Tired of the block niggas treating him the same
He wanted to be major like the cut-throats and the thugs
But when he tried to step to 'em, niggas showed him no love
They told him any motherfucking coward can sell drugs
Any bitch nigga with a gun can bust slugs
Any nigga with a red shirt can front like a blood
Even Puffy smoked a motherfucker up in a club
But only a real thug can stab someone till they die
Standing in front of them, staring straight into their eyes
Billy realized that these men were well-guarded
And they wanted to test him before business started
Suggested raping a bitch to prove he was cold-hearted
So now he had a choice between going back to his life
Or making money with made men, up in the cife
His dreams about cars and ice made him agree
A hardcore nigga is all he ever wanted to be
And so he met them Friday night at a quarter to three
[Verse 3]
They drove around the projects slow while it was raining
Smoking blunts, drinking and joking for entertainment
Until they saw a woman on the street walking alone
Three in the morning, coming back from work, on her way home
And so they quietly got out the car and followed her
Walking through the projects, the darkness swallowed her
They wrapped her shirt around her head and knocked her onto the floor
"This is it kid, now you got your chance to be raw."
So Billy yoked her up and grabbed the chick by the hair
And dragged her into a lobby that had nobody there
She struggled hard but they forced her to go up the stairs
They got to the roof and then held her down on the ground
Screaming, "Shut the fuck up and stop moving around!"
The shirt covered her face, but she screamed and clawed
So Billy stomped on the bitch, 'til he broken her jaw
Them dirty bastards knew exactly what they were doing
They kicked her until they cracked her ribs and she stopped moving
Blood leaking through the cloth, she cried silently
And then they all proceeded to rape her violently
Billy was made to go first, but each of them took a turn
Ripping her up, and choking her until her throat burned
Her broken jaw mumbled for God but they weren't concerned
When they were done and she was lying bloody, broken and bruised
One of them niggas pulled out a brand new twenty-two
They told him that she was a witness for what she'd gone through
And if he killed her he was guaranteed a spot in the crew
He thought about it for a minute, she was practically dead
And so he leaned over and put the gun right to her head
I'm falling and I can't turn back
I'm falling and I can't turn back
[Verse 4]
Right before he pulled the trigger, and ended her life
He thought about the cocaine with the platinum and ice
And he felt strong standing along with his new brothers
Cocked the gat to her head, and pulled back the shirt cover
But what he saw made him start to cringe and stutter
'Cause he was staring into the eyes of his own mother
She looked back at him and cried, 'cause he had forsaken her
She cried more painfully, than when they were raping her
His whole world stopped, he couldn't even contemplate
His corruption had successfully changed his fate
And he remembered how his mom used to come home late
Working hard for nothing, 'cause now what was he worth
He turned away from the woman that had once given him birth
And crying out to the sky 'cause he was lonely and scared
But only the devil responded, 'cause god wasn't there
And right then he knew what it was to be empty and cold
And so he jumped off the roof and died with no soul
They say death takes you to a better place but I doubt it
After that they killed his mother, and never spoke about it
And listen 'cause the story that I'm telling is true
'Cause I was there with Billy Jacobs and I raped his mom too
And now the devil follows me everywhere that I go
In fact, I'm sure he's standing among one of you at my shows
And every street cypher listening to little thugs flow
He could be standing right next to you, and you wouldn't know
The devil grows inside the hearts of the selfish and wicked
White, brown, yellow and black color is not restricted
You have a self-destructive destiny when you're inflicted
And you'll be one of god's children that fell from the top
There's no diversity because we're burning in the melting pot
So when the devil wants to dance with you, you better say never
Because a dance with the devil might last you forever
Just why
