I loved the way he used the inquiry privilege to make that letter public - beware of an intelligent man with a sense of humour 🤣
Very intelligent that is why he is and Europhile - .His greatest gift is mocking people at £20.000 a session - Oh dear never mind.
@@lancebach So one can't be a Europhile and intelligent, that's a big brain take right there.
@@Haree78 Enjoying the Brexit shortages?
@@peanutbutterbruv Not a lot to enjoy about where this country has been heading for a long time. Too little air time for the Hislops of the world and too much for the Murdoch cronies has been a slow death.
When you’re this comfortable, you’ve nothing to hide.
That suit/coat/hat combo: swag swag swag
BenedictusFan YOU'RE GOD DAMN RIGHT!
BenedictusFan don't forget the gloves.
+BenedictusFan check how his white bag and black bag tied around his Closed Fist...he means business :) just my seeing
Got to admit, it was the first time i have ever seen his legs lol
Its called style-not everyone recognizes it......
I bloody LOVE Ian Hislop - he's the permanent thorn in the side of puffed-up, overly-important bureaucrats and politicians ... long may he irritate them all.
I can’t stand Hislop even the way his fat cheeks wobble irritates me.
Utter bollox. He's a lefty hypocrite.
@@jonb6417 literally a centrist, but go off I guess. he comes off as a "lefty" as the conservatives have been in power for the last 11 years, and so there is more to criticise. When Blair and Brown were in power, he gave more them enough criticism, even though they were mos certainly right-leaning
@@boopy3919 You have a point, and I agree he makes fun of deserving left/labour figures too. That's his job, I suppose. But if you notice, he never has attacked politically correct or anti-nationalist ideas. The divisions in society, over the past twenty years or so have in my opinion been becoming less left v. right and more politically correct/woke v. traditional nationalist/patriotic. I think he's PC and largely woke, hence he was bound to be against Brexit. But nonetheless I think he has integrity and I think he's generally sincere unlike many in his profession.
HIGNFY from 1990-2000 made him the most important person in the country. We really need someone like that now to speak out against this mad lockdown strategy.
'I read it out under privilege' was a genuis move
I used to think Ian was a dick, judging by his performances on HIGNFY back in the day but as time goes by, I realise he is an absolute hero for free speech and a really funny guy.
Irony landed a few punches to your ribs before you got the message.
He made a serious error in treating Johnson as a joke. Feel like HIGNFY was a place for him to let loose from his more serious job. But he forgot himself too often.
@@mosspally6995 look through the back editions of the Eye. I think no one had Johnson’s number better in the media. What we see on that show is the awkwardness of the editor of the magazine that most consistently produced revelations of his crimes and corruption meeting the subject he’s spilled so much ink over
The only News Paper Editor with absolutely “NOTHING” to hide. 1:15 is the perfect example
Main concern: not enough people are wearing hats.
Fortunately, Ian is fighting the cause. One day, we will all wear hats just like in Victorian times.
Hats maketh the man....im pretty sure Shakespeare wrote that....
You’ve got to know how to wear a hat inlove em
Dapper chap.
You should have put three points forward for a hat trick
Just one name: Terry Pratchett.
Reminds me of the Goulding inquiry from the thick of it .
+bren kama At least someone who knows about The Thick of It is found. :)
The Thick of It's inquiry was effectively based on this
@@linussmith8452 completely
Well it was based on this
And Yes Minister/ Prime-minister before that.
young Ian Hislop , or the "Slop" as he was called in Battersea had an attitude of drink hard , live hard , die young , thankfully he outgrew those years , and is now quite respected .
The best part of the Leveson inquiry.
He really is a journalist of the old school , get the facts and then report them , don't stoop to gutter tactics .
If all journalists were like that, the profession wouldn't be so widely and justly despised.
But it isn't.
And so it is.
Ian you are brill! Thanks for exposing journalists' malpractice
You're not talking to him, he's not reading that.
He’s brilliant & so funny. Well done Ian!!!
HIGNFY wouldn't be as good without the Ian-Paul banter. Those two compliment each other perfectly.
A brilliant editor of Private Eye.
A TOTAL genius, this man!!!
I didn't know what was more amusing, Ian Hislop or him being questioned by Nick Cotton!
For the City of London, ethics is somewhere you can get to from Liverpool Street station.
Milli dowler, never forget her name. Piers Morgan forever forgotten
Although I invariably disagree with Ian on many issues, I admire his integrity, tenacity, humour and delightful personality, which I'm sure will please him and give him the confidence to carry on!!
Don't worry, Hislop's opinions change more often than traffic lights, so you'll agree with him on those many issues soon enough.
Thanks for the input.
Do NOT mess with the editor of Private Eye!!!
Ian Hislop telling it like it is. Well done.
0:38 me when I get a difficult exam question
that is so true 😭😭😭
He's quite attractive when he drops his guard and smiles.
Smart in appearance.. smarter with his words. I do like Ian Hislop.
the whole video of his testomony is available on the bbc democracy live site 'Leveson Inquiry in full - module 1'
What an amazing man, total legend 🙂
“Get the ITN news app for your Blackberry”
My what now?
What's an App World?
I love him he is a laughing little gnome and I would marry him if he wasn’t already spoken for. He is a hero of mine
such a legend.
ian is a very cool dude
Granger was one of the highest paid civil servants in charge of a £20billion project to transform the NHS computer system. But despite his colossal £280,000 a year pay, his 'Connecting for Health' project is over-budget, behind schedule and threatening to become the biggest IT disaster in history. Now we may finally have the explanation for all the problems. His mum revealed that the man overseeing largest civilian IT project in the world failed his computer studies course while at Bristol Uni.
That last line is brilliant
Bollocks, I'm Dutch and thick and I understood it completely.
Moi
I actually adore Ian Hislop.
hes a clever guy!
More please. Hislop is a Witty guy.
Chris Whitty?
Looks like Ian turned up looking like his in the gestapo
Alo Alo has much to commend it as well as to answer for.
He's, not his 🙄
You’re an idiot
Hes editor of private eye first then Have i got news for you captain.
Captainegg because private eye is a much much bigger deal
@@stuffandthat157 it is despite being controlled opposition
It sounds weird without a studio audience laughing at his jokes...
Given that most his effort goes into exposing wrongdoing shouldn't the state contribute to his costs for this valuable service?
Rocked up looking like a KGB agent. Lol.
Why can I not find the full statement anywhere..?
Your profile picture and comment match perfectly.
Do you mean the image at the start with the ITN logo or some other advert, I used adblocker, works well for me ;)
Legend.
Top tip. Don't put elvis costello in charge of a serious enquiry.
Ian looks like he's the priest in "The Exorcist," at the beginning of this video, preparing for an exorcism 😂🤣
Nice hat.
He is gold
there is a private eye live now and then in london?
Damn, where can I get me one of them hats?
SWAG
Don’t worry Mr Sunak, your personal cheque to HM Treasury will, I’m sure be accepted, in addition to Parliamentary apologies.
Honestly... The Leveson Enquiry is a matter of utmost gravity and could change the face of journalism forever and that's the best you can manage?
Sometimes only the word "Magnificent" will do.
Ian is da man he says what all us think about the animal we call politicians who run our country
Yes, well I was actually quoting Ricky Gervais who once called him that after a bad review of his stand up performance. I just thought it had nice ring to it.
National Treasure.
i love that guy
I was thinking the exact same thing
unfortunately for him on hignfy, his comedy is just too satirical, and so people like to hear pauls witty comebacks more, ian is the kind of guy i'd love to have a pint with
I half expected he to be accompanied by Mary Poppins.
Hislop looks like a gangster from the 1930s when he turns up at court
He swaggered in like Jimmy Cagney!
Andrews is an English surname.
I thought they had done away with page 3 !
Well I'm not the one making a massive deal out of nothing really, which makes me feel like some Scottish people are having this whole snobby "Scotland for the Scottish" attitude when many of us are born all around the UK now rather than just one country.
in emotive cases like this, reason and rationality are usually the first things thrown out of the metaphoric window. sadly.
By phone or with a loud, clear voice from across the room.
I’m sure that that particular evidence would have been far more effective if it had been cross examined by Angus Deayton or a selection of guests and included a Guest Publication.
😂😂😂
Allegedly
Ian Hislop for prime minister!
Read the letter under privilege before the select committee: sneaky.
Top bloke!
It cant be a Republic in 2014, but can be independent.
I like his hat.
Sorry that makes more sense, I didn't hear him say that. I apologise that the intertextual reference was lost on me.
good ol' Ian
That is a great hat
The hat was a bit Tom Baker (Doctor Who)
that actually does help.
At least I'm not alone.
This man should be Prime Minister.
glenn dutton Alas we got the consolation prize, Boris.
@@jeanmyers1787 no we gained a better prize than some comic journalist
I see that Robert Maxwell has been found alive and well.
Private Eye used to satirise the establishment, now it is the establishment
0:38 David Brent
The placement of the red microphones in the thumbnail makes Ian look like he turned up wearing a Nazi SS uniform
Hislop is the sand what makes the pearl. Long may it continue. Proper schoolboy grin too
Don't send videos or pics to @itn unless they pay you the going rate.
Top bloke
When are the English going to get a vote about whether we want Scotland to be in the union?
what is going on with his sleeves ?
I like Hislop's dry sense of humour. PS Republic f Scotland in 2014-hahaha. No chance!
2:08 just checking I took my trilby off before I sat down.
I have never said or believed "Scotland for the Scottish". I rather think its a snobby English attitude that don't think we should have the free right to decide which way our country will go.
Shock headline: CZcamsr gets his world view from Hollywood.
Oh man. You made me miss the whole video by forcing me to click to 2:24.
I had forgotten what a turgid advocate Jay was. Now a not very bright qbd judge.
Want that hat
Council Hislop can help write the Scottish constitution (the best that will ever be written) when we become a republic...after we are Independent in 2014.
This didn’t age well
He’s a trained barrister isn’t he? I miss watching HIGNFY.
No! Perish the thought, he would probably say.
@@1591215912 Okeydoke
I thought that the early series were good, especially with Angus. Latterly it became simply a tired format promoting a woke, anti-conservative agenda.
Pause at 0:36 and see yoda.
What a peculiar little man.
