  • Before you say anything, I know I can't sing. I just thought it might be quite nice to do the Townes Van Zandt classic in my dulcet northern tones. Or not! In all seriousness, the fingerpicking of this piece took me a long time to learn.
This is the first thing I played with my new Telecaster. As you can see, it still has the sticker on :)
    Gear used:
    Squier Classic Vibe 50's Telecaster
    Roland Cube 30
    Samson Mic

This is great. This song is made for a voice like yours. Nice job on the guitar part.

You have likely heard it said that there is no such thing as a little bit pregnant. You either are or you aren't. You said you are just an average guitarist. I think you're more than that, My Brother. Music is more than that, and you're playing it. I can see you play for good, not for evil. I am won't comment on your funny faces at the end of this tune, however _(out of kindness, I suppose)._
As to your vocals, join the club.
    As to myself,
_"I can't sing, I ain't pretty, and my legs are think."_
    ~~ Peter Green (Fleetwood Mac)
_"Use what talents you possess; the woods would be very silent if no birds sang except those that sang best."_
    ~~ Henry Van Dyke

Thank you my friend. Those are very kind words. I feel like making music is something that’s good for my soul, and there’s something within me that wants me to keep trying; to keep getting better, and I aim to do just that. As for the funny faces at the end, I couldn’t actually think of a less ridiculous way to walk over to the camera and shut it off! 😅

@@scaredypicker I just mentioned your expressions so I could work a lyric quote into my comment. I have sang that many times in saloons, where I spent most of my life doing covers for drunks. But I didn't start that way . . . . I come from a time when music was changing the world, the late sixties. I see things in the street that harken back to those days, when it was cool to be kind and the tough guy thing was out of style for a New York minute. Love rules, and music is the most powerful tool I know that can get that across.
Keep doing it from the heart, My Brother. You got what it takes. That is sincerety, humilty, and compassion. It helps a lot to sing on pitch and tune your guitar too whenever possible, but the former is far more important. Peace.

@@paradisepipeco I've learned over time - sometimes the hard way - just how unimportant material things are. It's all about what comes from the heart, and the people you share that with. I'd do anything to have just spent a short time being around in the sixties, man. It sounds like an incredible time. But music is something we can all keep alive in our own way. Your career as a musician sounds like a very interesting one. I've got to just get playing with more people and improve my guitar playing that way. Nice talking to you!

@@scaredypicker I'll have more time in an hour or two . . . The price I pay is being old for having lived through times that are almost as impossible to believe as what we have right now with our president etc. Only much but not all was good. I am an old man with stories, and advice that maybe nobody wants to hear but if you are interested maybe it is off topic enough (Poncho & Lefty, and you, not me) we should take it off this page . . . again, if you choose to do so, my "About" page offers an option. I can tell you even though I was never a big shot, I got more names to drop than you will believe, at least at first.
Also, I am a highly qualified teacher for reasons I can explain if you care, although not sure how much can be achieved online, and I have a real problem with almost all teachers and tutorials that are intended for more than one specific student. Anyway, if you have an interest in any of the above or directions around my lengthy video list of types of tunes (I am all over the map) let me know. I was a backup guitarist for a long time, learning from session players so I play a lot of styles hence there are a lot of different type tunes on my channel. I tried to mix it up when I put them in order as one might on an album. Playing with more advanced players is the way to get better if you are able to teach yourself. Not everyone has that capability though, but anyone can learn to play. Of course you already can play, and we all have different strengths and weaknesses just as we all have different size hands and thickness of fingers.
I have jammed, performed, recorded and hung out with some people you know of, if you care to hear about some weird sixties tales from Hollywood and elsewhere. But the length of this post is my concern about taking this dialogue, should we pursue it, off our public pages. Feel free to delete my comment(s) for that reason if you feel like it.
      Peace, My Brother.
