Another thing people need to realize is the quality. My wife and I were rewatching Friends for the first time since it originally aired. Our internet was out one night when we came home so I bought the complete series for cheap on eBay. It was only a DVD copy and a few days later we started watching them instead. The quality of just a DVD is better not only in video, but audio! Max joined the graveyard of canceled streaming services in our house. It has only made us buy even more physical media.

I still collect DVDs, for a couple of reasons:
    1. There are movies that have ONLY ever gotten a DVD release, and have never been on blu ray (at least, in the US).
Just recently, I found Strange Days, and Shadow of the Vampire on DVD, for example.
    2. If I cant find a movie on blu ray that has a blu ray release, but find the DVD instead, I'll pick up the DVD.
Most of my physical media comes from thrift stores, pawn shops and other places like, Half Price Books, and dedicated physical media stores.
I usually, dont have to pay full-price, which is a plus and a good way to be able to build a collection.
Of course, there are some titles you gotta pay more for than, others, but im certainly, not going to pay $20 to $30 for everything.
    Heck, I'm still collecting VHS!

I buy DVD's because I am not a huge move fan and I certainly don't do streaming. I just buy a DVD I like and watch it on my computer (I don't own a TV).
The physical media I am really into are compact disks and vinyl records. I love my music 😊

DVD is far from finished, I think eventually people will conclude they never had it as good as they did with that format. Basically, I can watch a movie on any format it really doesn't matter to me, I still have VHS and LaserDisc so while nostalgia is a part of it the most important part is still the movie itself. Why should we suddenly not be capable of enjoying a movie on DVD, just because other formats have come along it makes no sense to me that something we all used to enjoy and use mere years ago now all of a sudden is off limits and useless. Nonsense. It's the same movie no matter the format, so if you love a movie you'll still get the same kind of pleasure from watching it regardless of the format. In fact, older formats can add to the experience it doesn't take anything away. On a good Blu-ray player that upscales to near 'HD' a DVD will look pretty damn good and a whole lot better than on a standard DVD player. So get a Blu-ray player that upscales, say a Panasonic (I swear by) and you're off to the races those old discs will sparkle with new life, it really is like night and day...💿📀

I give Best Buy another two years. Back in the day when Best Buy started opening up around my areas I went there for basic CD albums that were Imports that I couldn’t find anywhere else. Same thing with CD EP imports I love collecting that stuff and then I started collecting movies from there. Sometimes the prices were a little bit high, but as long as I can go there physically and grab it, I’d pay the prices. When they stop caring CDs, I was mad, but I still went there for movies when their movie section shrunk down I stopped going all altogether.

“Streaming fatigue”, or perhaps more notably known as _subscription_ fatigue. Main reason I went back to playing videogames from the 6th gen, during the pinnacle of 3D gaming but right before live-service and downloadable content took the mainstream by norm. Ubisoft’s words about being “comfortable in not owning your games” rings true across ALL digital forms of entertainment, I don’t want to be inundated by monthly bills on top of the already high cost of living for just a perpetual license of ownership that can be retracted once the licensing expires.

My family thinks I am nuts for owning so many DVDs and Blu-rays. I stream but I never stopped buying physical media. Since Netflix shutdown DVD business, I have been getting new releases on Blu-ray. Buy the ones I like, and at least got to watch something different if it was not my cup of tea. I have over 2,500 DVDs and I am around 800 or more Blu-rays.
Didn't mind streaming when it was new, but it's just grown to be TOO MUCH. You mentioned Monday Night Raw. I have seen nearly every single episode since 1998. Once it goes to Netflix, not paying for it. Thanks for the video and I agree with all points!

I am a Physical Media guy, didn't give up on them. You never own Digital. I watch any format, even on my HD TV. The quality doesn't bother me for DVDs if that is the only option of a movie that is available for me to watch or the upgrade is extremely expensive. I have not paid for a Subscription Service for Movies and not planning too.
For Streaming: I use Tubi, however, to watch older movies before going out an blindly buying them. Its how I put both Mask and Legend of Zorro on my wishlist. Watched them both there. I also use Pluto TV to watch old Game Shows but that's about it. Both are free so I don't pay a cent.
I am also a Physical Gamer as well, but I moved onto strictly Nintendo Switch, and luckily, Nintendo understands that their Physical Media sells so that's good for me. Everything else became Retro or what's free from Epic Games (tho I don't play as much so it doesn't hurt). I just don't have the time to sink 100+ hours of gaming like I used too. Movies are easier for me to take out time for.

I think if people are returning to physical media and they’re trying to build a library, they are probably buying used, 50 to 1.00 DVD’s, 2 dollar to 6 dollar blu rays. The data isn’t going to reflect if there is a real increase in physical media buying. Might be fun to interview a business that sells 2nd and see if they are noticing an increase in buying. If you can find 3 to 5 business, maybe we can compare their data on physical media sales in the secondhand market. Just a thought. I’m kinda curious myself.

In 2019, that number became zero, as it was forced to shut down to put in a Dollar General. As sad as I was to see it go away, its selection of older titles was quite limited and became only good for New Releases that I didn't see at the theater.

Well, I still buy DVDs but the DVDs I buy are movies that are classics from the 30s 40s and 50s that didn’t get a Blu-ray release yet and I’m OK with that a lot of the stuff that I buy will never get blu ray releases. I do stream a lot, but basically for movies that I don’t have in my collection. There are people on CZcams that put up movies that were on VHS and they digitize them and put them on their channels so you can watch them and most of them don’t even have commercials and that’s another good thing . Streaming in general is too many commercials and if you don’t want commercials, you gotta pay extra take those commercials off. That should not be. That being said DVDs and Blu-ray have commercials before you actually get into the movie and sometimes you can’t fast forward through them.

Great video, FanZcene. Physical media will always be the superior format. And speaking of DiabolikDVD, i got 2 blu rays I ordered in the mail from them almost a week ago, one them is a 4K/Blu-ray combo pack of Face/Off (1997) from Kino Lorber, I had to remove the shrink wrap because a disc came loose in the case and it was the blu-ray that came loose in the case which was annoying and it had a tiny scratch on the disc but thankfully it didn’t affect any playback issues, but anyways never seen the movie and i watched it for the first time the next day, a fun action movie from the 90s, nothing wrong with a fun action movie and having a good time.

When I here people say Im waiting for it to come out on 4k before I get it or on Blu-ray. I tell them you are going to miss out on alot of movies an things. Because some things never get a Blu-ray or 4k release. So its up to you just keep this in mind because as any one that collected physical media for a while. Along with keeps up with physical media releases an news an things like that. Knows that some things are even lucky to get a DVD release at all.
Then if it does get a 4k release it may be only for a different DVD, Blu-ray, 4k region. So yes can't watch it unless you have a region free player to play it on. Even then it may be a completely different language with no subtitles for you to understand. For a example of this the movie Reeker 2005. In region A/1 that is the United States an Canadia you can only get it on DVD. But in other countries there is a 4k version of it but they are region locked an in another languages. There is a reason for this basically in other countries it got a full release. So it was a well-known movie an in the United States an Canadia. It was only aired quietly once or twice on small TV channels. So in the other countries more people seen it an know about it so there is more of a demand for it. In the United States an Canadia its mainly known by word of mouth only. Wich is sad concerning the movie was made in the United States.
So people that dismiss DVDs they will just miss out on certain movies an things on physical media.

Another thing about streaming they do rise prices from time to time and that sucks you got free services and those have a ton of commercials on it but sometimes it’s worth watching even with the commercials if it’s something you can’t get a hold of physically. There’s nothing wrong with DVDs they are cheaper sometimes a newer release won’t get a DVD release and then you end up on streaming again if you don’t have a blu-ray player. But if you have a good Blu-ray player or a good 4K player, it up, converts the DVDs very nicely mine does, and I’m very happy with it. Oh, one last thing when you’re streaming TV shows on any streaming app there is a big possibility that shows are edited and some episodes might be even banned. For example, the office has a few episodes that were fine when they originally aired and even in syndication, they were fine now they’re being banned on streaming because there was something offensive in there, and God knows what it was, and because one person got offended that gets taken down. It happened to the Simpsons with the episode. Start raving Dad because it had to deal with Michael Jackson had nothing to do with Michael Jackson. lol 😂 so you gotta be aware of that as well physical media if you buy a whole series most of the time they’re not edited except for maybe Disney there’s a lot of edited stuff from Disney be aware of that

But I noticed they still looked a lot better on lower-definition monitors or CRT Tvs (which makes sense, given that's what they were designed for). I even have a DVD drive on the laptop I'm typing this on, which is not quite full HD. And DVDs even look better when I play them on this laptop than they do on my 75-inch 4K TV.

I get your point on the DVD quality, but how about movies that never got a Blu-Ray release? Will you still watch those movies or you don't bother with those movie at all?

Yes, it's very easy to stand up and walk over to a movie shelf and insert the disc into a video player. Unless, of course, the person happens to be paralyzed. Then, not so much.😬
P.S. I'm not talking about myself, just using generalities.

After watching so many blu rays 4k and HD streaming I can't go back to watching dvd it looks bad to me now. I will if it's a movie that's never been released or is too expensive but I've been spoiled and not going back. I've rebought all my favorite movies in blu ray and my absolute favorites in 4k. 4k is starting to spoil me from blu ray. Blu ray have heavy dnr all the grain is scrubbed and the colors are usually over saturated making it look fake and not the original vision.

IF PEOPLE ARE CUTTING OUT CABLE, WHY WOULD THEY CUT A STREAMING PLATFORM THAT PROVIDES THEM NEW FILMS/SHOWS/NEWS/SPORTING EVENTS? PHYSICAL MEDIA CAN'T SOLVE THIS!!!

    • @FanZceneVids

Dude streaming is basically cable 2.0, they're actual physical numbers saying these streaming services are losing subscribers daily. People see it's not what was promised. I think I explain in this video and many others why some are turning away from streaming and going back to physical. Plus it's been proven no one likes or us watching the new stuff.
