University House/Room Tour - Halifax College at University of York

- This is my second year living in university accommodation during my studies at York. In the first year I was in an en suite room in Alcuin College (as our university still has a college based system...kinda like Hogwarts houses) and therefore I will always belong to Alcuin College. However, I did not get a house sorted in first year and decided to return to campus and so was placed with a house full of returning students in a shared bathroom accommodation in Halifax. There are 10 of us sharing 2 toilets, a shower, a a bath, but I have never had to wait to use any of these as we are all busy 2nd/3rd year students on different courses with different timetables. Although I have been the only one using the bath which has been great. We are separated from the freshers so it has been really nice and quiet living here.

I know this isn't my normal Saturday posting time but I was going to post this as a bonus video yesterday and then Instagram went down so I couldn't tell people about it. I've also filmed quite a few videos about the beginning of summer/end of term videos and can't fit them in a weekly schedule without them not being relevant 😊
I'm starting at UoY in January and find it quite hard to decide on accommodation, so this was super helpful. Also, your handwriting is beautiful!
I hope you like it here. I'm currently living in a cheaper halifax accommodation this year for my MA and still finding it's alright
Very detailed video -thanks. I am a bit concerned that you didn't carry enough pens.
Oh don't worry, I was a stationery company social media ambassador for a year last year so I have even more drawers full of them now 🤣🤣
Was the bookshelf already on the wall when you moved in? Sorry for the silly question!
The one in your bedroom by your desk I mean
Yes 😊 apart from the pin boards, we can't put anything on the walls of students rooms
Hexa Trance ahh okay tysm!! I’m guessing they give you a pinboard by default then?
@@leof4165 yess to stop us bluetacking the walls 😂
Thanks for that!! :)
I wanna know more about the campus, there is a GYM or sports fields? (volleyball)
I'm mexican im looking for information, because im looking to move to halifax and finish there my career Marketing.
there is some kind of scholarship?
Hi, I was just wondering what court this was in Halifax? I move in soon! x
It was lindley court on the returning students side 😊
I wonder how could you go shopping for groceries from there?
Theres small shops dotted across campus and supermarkets further into the city of york which isn't too bad to walk or bike
How much are bills round about for places like this?
I think this was £136 a week for 44 weeks 💜
Thanks so much! I’m going to this uni in 2021 and am nervous about the costs :))
@@samuelhawksworth1923 to be honest, York isn't the cheapest place. To do my MA I've had to go with economy shared in Halifax for £99 a week. Similar to this but smaller rooms and more people per bathroom/Kitchen. The only other option for postgraduates was an ensuite room at £155 a week and was out of budget for me. If you keep an eye on your budget it can be manageable. I really hope you like it in September.
@@hexatrance7 How was your room for your MA year? I'm thinking of moving to halifax economy/band 1 for second year just because they're the cheapest option and I'd love to save the money! (Plus honestly for first year I have not met *anyone* so halls seems the safest option haha)
@@DreamsAreMakeBelieve honestly not see much difference between my band 1 room now and this room. There's a tad less floor space but my desk in my MA is actually bigger. Not finding the sharing toilets with more people to be an issue either. I've been lucky to be put in a house with post graduates and theyve put us on the edge of Halifax so not in the middle with the freshers. My second year room was all returning students too and not by the freshers either
Is Halifax also available for couple?
Not that I'm aware of
