Whenever AEW's metrics are down, Dave jumps to a new metric that he thinks everyone should pay attention to. First it was overall viewership. When that went down, it was all about the key demo. When that dropped, it was live attendance numbers; then year over year stats; then placement in the cable charts; then total gate; then it was tickets distributed; and now it's "AEW is more popular in richer states." He's thrown his credibility away to try to save this company however he can.
Because he can't admit that AEW has gotten terrible. Oh, he'll say "well that angle didn't really make sense" or "it wasn't really for me but still 4-5 stars." But any legit criticism is out the window. Now it's the poor fans' fault.

TBH people still ordering PPV probably overwhelmingly live in areas where the internet infrastructure isn't good for streaming which do tend to be rural and more deprived areas. Dave has actually stumbled upon a point but he doesn't seem to understand why.

As someone who lives in Oklahoma I’d say that we have money for the things we actually want like say the new billion dollar arena that OKC is building for the Thunder that passed last December. “Sophisticated” cities like San Diego and Oakland have lost their pro sports teams because the people weren’t willing to invest in them. i was raised on a dairy farm in oklahoma son of mexican immigrants. i grew tf up and got my degree. my 200k salary in oklahoma goes a long way and I CHOOSE not to pay for the aew ppv. i do buy the monthly ufc ppv tho.
Same here. Grew up washing bay floors and running parts at my dad’s repair shop. For 150K a year, you can live like a king in Northern Kentucky. There are still a lot of places in the US where you can live quite comfortably for 150-200K. Maybe not excessive and opulent, but comfortable.

The January 2022 Raw show in Tulsa that only had 4000 people was due to an ice storm blanketing a large portion of northeastern Oklahoma.
That was going to be my attempt to watch WWE again, and I missed due to the freak weather.

There was an AEW show at the arena across the street from the hotel I work at a couple months ago.
Pretty much all the cars I saw in the parking lot were newer BMW's and other high end luxury cars, suv's and trucks, all of which were being driven by 20 something rich kids.
AEW isn't worth a cable package or $50-$60 a PPV. At least with WWE at the moment, I can see their PPVs on Peacock until that goes away. AEW needs something like that. It's just too much money. I used to watch AEW fairly frequently but forget about it.

Comparing two set of data only makes sense, if they are derived from similar standards.
To compare AEW' PPV buys to those of the WWE, Mr. Meltzer would slso (at least) needed some old WWE network data to be worked in, to have some data about how many people in 'rich' states (for example the old WWWE stomping grounds in the northeast like NY, NJ, CT, MA etc.) are willing to pay a monthly fee for access to WWE PPV and library.
I remember when Smackdown 1st. debuted on free TV when you had to have cable for Raw. It didn't take an economist to guess what the television demographics were.
If my internet service was meh in a rural area I'd buy PPVs to avoid streaming issues.

I am what would be considered “poor” on paper and I have to say, I used to pay for all the AEW PPV’s until the quality of the product degraded into what it is today. Money isn’t the issue if it’s a product worth paying for. WWE’s current product is trash but totally worth the $7.00 a month on peacock because it’s on the “seven dollar quality” level when it comes to “good wrestling shows.”
