Yes, thus far she only has a FTY, so her vault score ceiling is around a 13.0 (that's what she got in quals at worlds last year, a couple of tenths lower in AA). With her 3-event score from Doha qualifying that still already puts her at a 56.5! (Though scoring will be a little tighter in Paris than at Doha). It's hard to imagine her doing much better than that though, unless she has further upgrades. Given that she hasn't shown any vaults this year, there is an outside chance of her showing up with a vault upgrade, and that would REALLY put her in contention.
56.5 does outscore Shilese's world AA score (56.332), but not her quals score (56.932). She had a bit of an off day (though nothing dramatic) in AA; but she's also likely to bring some upgrades to Paris. So I'd say the math is that if Shilese has an off day and Kaylia has a super-on day, Kaylia can sneak in for the bronze, but Kaylia can't catch an Shilese without a vault upgrade.

If she got a dry, if not she wasn’t going to get one, her bars routine help her gain 1 point and beam another .5 on Shilese at best, but Shilese could pull a full point on vault and nearly a full point in floor, and we still have to remember that the games were held in Paris, although I hate politics but that’s a factor

    • @singsongeric

@@punchingkwan3052 Provided everyone is healthy, we know on paper the leading group likely will be Biles, Andrade, Jones (and maybe MDJDS), but Nemour and Qiu are certainly in contention for a bronze if the top gymnasts make errors.

@@punchingkwan3052 Kaylia got a 13.5 on floor today. Shilese has thus far been unable to break 14 internationally on floor. But yes, Shilese has at least a point on Kaylia on vault. Shilese is still the favorite for bronze, but if she has an off day and Kaylia has a banger, Kaylia could absolutely take it from her even with her FTY vault. And if she somehow shows up with a good DTY (not counting on it, but I can dream!), then it's game on! I love Shilese and Kaylia and would love for either of them to medal, but I also love a good competition! MDJDS could be in the mix too if she has an on day.

You have to stop this thing with the flag. Tssss. You must be French to dare such a ridiculous move. That's nonsense. Would you put an american flag next to MDJS's French flag because she's now training and living in the USA? Should we put French flag next to Simone's name because her coaches are French? The flag next to an athlete's name has Nothing to do with their genealogy or their place of living/training. It's all about the country they chose to represent. Kayla chose Algeria. Why don't you put both flag next to every athlete with a double nationality? There's no such thing as a sports double nationality. You have to choose and she chose. Kayla certainly is and feels French as a PERSON, that's why she's putting both flag on her social media which represent her as a person. As a gymnastics page, you represent her as an ATHLETE and she's NOT a French athlete anymore, get over it. It's almost disrespectful from you to ignore this fact considering how dirty the French federation did her. Anyway, be as delulu as you want, at the Olympics there will be ONE flag next to her name and at the end of the day, the medals will go to one country, and only one national anthem will resonate each time she gets medals because you don't get to compete for two countries as an athlete and if you respected her as an athlete you would stop doing this mistake again and again

She took 8 months for recovering and the French federation made her wait another whole year ... she was going to miss her window for the Olympics ; so she applied for the Algerian sport citizenship as she is Algerian too, but the French administration refused, so her family made an online petition with famous athletes who signed it, the French minister of Interior affairs and the sport minister were involved because the media starting to talk about. It became a scandal and they had no other choices than to let her join the Algerian federation. In their head they were 100% sure she would achieve nothing with the Algerian federation... but she had the green carpet from Algerian officials who helped her all the way possibles. Even the French journalists in their interviews were rude and arrogant saying she would get nothing with Algeria , that Algeria as a team would need to be qualified... which they did ! On the top of that , the French federation sued her club and both her coaches for grooming children, to make them bankrupt and close the club permanently... but the investigation proved it was all lies ! The people at the head of the French federation kept their jobs, there are so much corruption and networking.

I wholehearted agree with you. I, too, think the score was a bit high. There were a lot of imbalances and some of the execution form wasn’t great. She probably had enough elements to meet point requirements, but there are quite a few that execute much better when they’re spot on: Andrade, Biles, and the young lady from china who placed silver at worlds last year.
