He should of realized because he is a rapper, he can't hang out with real criminals no more. Or if he does, they are only temporarily. He should of focused on cutting ties and distancing himself from them. He might not have been doing much other than rapping, but he put himself in situations where he had to use violence. That alone would get him back in prison. You have to give up any lifestyle with violence once you are in the system. He should of choose to do all his meetings in a boxing gym and not claim he was in the gang ever.

I was sitting in jail when I realized hiphop music usually perpetuates things that got me locked up. Culture is a big part of the problem - but I don't see a fix for it either.

Yea, but it doesnt really matter since its 51/85 depending on if it was violent or not. So if he gets say, 60 years, and charge is considered violent, he is to serve 51 years (85%) or 31 years (51%) if charge is considered non-violent, all assuming he has no incidents or catches new charges inside. Then take that 51 or 31 and subtract the time he served waiting for trial/court, but depending on the county it varies how much or how they calculate credit for it. It generally not 1:1 credit. Some counties its partial credit some its only by the fiscal months locked up. Its complex.
Unless you are sentenced to a set amount of days, then most State Prisons (not county or city jails) release you on the 1st day of whatever month your release date falls on. Unless that day falls on a weekend, then its the following Monday.
