    Regardless of whether you think stepehen A and Shannon might not know very much about hockey, it’s clear they’ve taken the time to educate themselves enough to talk about it. These two discussing the NHL is huge for the league and will grow the game. Be happy. This is what we’ve wanted to happen for a long time.

      You do know they’re only talking about it because they’re obligated to talk about it because it was a game 7.
      I’m a less than casual hockey fan, basically not a fan, but saying the goalie who was scored on plenty of times in the series should win the trophy is absurd.

      Respectfully stopping under 25 shots in a game is easy work. You should be looking at legit scoring chances. Connor just had too many points to not give it to him. Brobrovsky certainly played well last night but his defence in front of him was lights out. Played disciplined in their zone. Took away lanes. Stayed out of the box. Man it is tough to win 4 games in a row against the same team.

It should be against the rules in ANY sport for a player on the LOSING team to win the MVP of the postseason. Might as well give participation awards to everybody on the losing team. 2. People keep bringing up Bobrosky having those bad games, McDavid didn’t score a goal in games 6 or 7. Soooo what are we really talking about here? It’s always funny watching football and basketball guys talk about hockey. They have no idea how much of a team sport it is. One guy, even the best player of all time, has so little impact on the overall game compared to NBA and NFL. It’s partly why hockey doesn’t have as much viewership. The superstars often go pointless, and that’s normal. Whereas you’ll never go to a chiefs game or warriors game and see Mahomes and Curry get 0 points. Different sport.

    • @NatTurnerswitBurnerz
      @NatTurnerswitBurnerz Před 10 dny

      "One guy, even the best player of all time, has so little impact on the overall game compared to the NBA and NFL."
      This comment can easily be disproven and is grossly overstated.
      Without McDavid, the Oilers would've been lucky to get past the Kings.
      Also, historically, goalies are known to carry teams to championship.
      Moreover, the best skaters (non-goaltenders) in hockey very often win championships.There are countless great players in the NBA and NFL who didn't win it all. Hockey is no more a team sport than any other. In fact, baseball, which on the surface looks like an individual sport, requires more contributions from more players than all others. That's why all-time greats like Ted Williams, Ken Griffey, and Mike Trout never even played in World Series.

Its the details. People think well if your great your suppose to be great no matter the situation ,never accounting for why they didn't, and if they don't well they didn't show up etc etc etc. As an athlete they may feel that and even want that on their shoulders but we all know its deeper than that. @@NatTurnerswitBurnerz It's not a lot harder to score today. More goals back then doesn't mean it was easier. Power play % over the last 5 years is almost identical to the pp% of the second half of the 80's. If you took away video review and added 3-4 power plays per game to today's game, I guarantee scoring would be equal to or exceed 80's scoring. It's pretty much just as easy to physically score today, the conditions are what's different which hinder scoring today.

      In 1980s Gretzky's time NHL 8 goals per game! Today only 6 goals per game! McDavid his play-offs assists record is amazing! You can not compare todays numbers to high scoring 1980s! If Auston Matthews had played In 1982 he would had scored over 100 goals easily beating Gretzky's 92 goal record easily! Ovechkin ERA only 5,3-6 goals per game NHL! If Ovechkin had played high scoring 1980s he would had scored over 1200 goals easily! And Edmonton Oilers 1980s much better team than Edmonton Oilers 2024 or Toronto Maple Leafs or Washington Capitals!

    There is no doubt how great McDavid is, and his lack of cups is a testament to how difficult it really is to win the cup. But in a Game 7 SCF, when push came to shove Bob was on his game, McDavid was not. NHL is bias to goal scorers. But defence wins championships.

    I don’t think it’s debatable that McDavid deserved the Conn Smythe honestly. He one of the best post seasons of any player in the history of the game and broke a gd Gretzky record. Winning the cup would have solidified him as the second best player ever. Not winning it, he was still by far and away the best player of these playoffs. Name another player who had two 4 point nights to claw their team back to a fighting chance in the finals?

    • @dannycarlow8204
      @dannycarlow8204 Před 10 dny +1

      It's very debatable. The reason they needed to claw back is because McDavid wasn't producing early in the series. Then he was held scoreless in games 6 and 7.(the two most important games of his life) He was also scoreless in game 7 vs Van. He played 25 games to get that record compared to Wayne's 19 games. McDavid's ppg this playoffs is only good for 57th all time. The other four 40+ point seasons are 1st, 8th, 23rd and 58th. His ppg in the last two games of each series combined was 1.125 compared to his 1.941 ppg in the other 17 games. He was disappearing late in each series when his team needed him most.The other four 40+ efforts are the exact opposite where Wayne and Mario were killers in the last two games of playoff series.
