One thing is that people forget is that despite all the hate that WoW gets nowadays that most players are still casuals. People who just play the game without any thought of what the wider community thinks about the game and just want to have fun It's also connected to those people who have played the game for over a decade and simply are in too deep to "Just quit". Humans find comfort in keeping things that they've become attached to for a long period, even if that thing is a net negative for their life (See League of Legends or even abusive relationships as examples) I see A TON of negativity for games like Mount and Blade Bannerlord or WoW on the forums, but yet still have a very high player count despite it (Bannerlord is 21k as of writing this comment with peaks being between 26-30k) I'm not saying that WoW and Blizzard as a whole don't deserve the criticsm they gets nowadays. But it's just a reality that most players simply don't care and just want to enjoy a game that they've grown attached to
It's like overwatch. Overwatch is still probably the most competently made hero shooter around. People don't like to admit that it's a solid game despite blizzards mismanagement and poor marketing. WoW also has a fervent hate culture around it, yet many people still play it, because in reality it's not nearly as bad as people say. I'm also not saying blizz is perfect or good. They've done a ton wrong. But the hate and gamer negativity in all communities is just so crazy now.
