Theory time! When Discord was UNABLE to be chaotic, he was being normal UNWILLINGLY. Meanwhile, when he was being normal WILLINGLY, that's when he began to fade. And it has been proven that some creatures similar to Discord must give some of their magic willingly, otherwise they remain as they are, no matter how much magic is forcefully taken from them. So, Discord is fading away only now because he's giving up his magic willingly, which is destroying him, just like it separated the creatures in Tartarus.
I think that not using the chaos magic was causing it to build up and backlash. Having his connection to it severed or suppressed prevented that from happening.

I love this. Anytime Discord shows up at any time it stops being a mlp episode and becomes a Discord episode.

The way Discord stresses about how to make Fluttershy as comfortable as possible was both adorable and funny at the same time, but the episode became one of my favorites when Fluttershy mentioned how that she loved what Discord is, how much life he brings to her and how much excitement
"Disacordant Harmony" is one of my favorite Discord episodes! It was interesting to see Discord go out of his way to make the perfect tea party for Fluttershy,Though it is true that he over thought things and went overboard in terms of making the tea party too normal.
And the fact that Fluttershy was expecting Discord's tea party to be as wacky and chaotic as he is just means that on some level Fluttershy's just as eccentric as Discord which makes them perfect for each other. lol
And it was also interesting to learn that Discord has a weakness after all, By becoming too normal and not causing chaos he fades out of existence. which was not all that surprising since Discord is literally the living embodiment of chaos itself, And seeing Fluttershy being chaotic was adorable!
In fact if you think about it, Fluttershy literally saved Discord's life in this episode. But when Discord was fading away it didn't seem to phase him like he didn't even care that he practically dying. But I guess Discord got too into character at being "normal" to even notice the situation that much.
But anyway I was happy that the episode had a happy ending, In fact some of my favorite parts of the episode was with the singing tea and the candy sneezing pinata.

Easily the cutest showcase of Discord & Fluttershy's friendship imo.
I think given how everypony is kind of just indifferent to the God of Chaos's shenanigans, Discord probably hangs around a bit more than we think and we just don't focus on his boring Ponyville adventures. We do see he's pretty much at home in Fluttershy's cottage, who's to say he doesn't sometimes venture out with her just to experience something a little different.
Also, I know these are jokes, but I think the reason Discord didn't fade all those other times is because he wasn't purposely denying his true nature; he simply couldn't use his magic. He probably still was thinking chaotically and would have stirred up chaos if given the chance to swap the names on newborns' cribs.
It's because he's being normal WILLINGLY rather than UNwillingly, just like the creatures in Tartarus when they got separated.

One of the best episodes in the series for me. Of course I have bias because I ship Fluttercord, but also there we fully explore a side of Discord that is a rare sighting, his more gentle and insecure side. But there was also vanity involved because he craved that his relationship with Fluttershy was accepted by everypony.
I would say this episode throws out any consistency we had on what discord actually is and can do, but that in and of itself is pretty in line for his character.
Maybe this whole episode is a fifth wall break, or maybe I'm just thinking about it too hard.
Who knows?

I am not sure at what point between her third and thirty-third birthdays that Fluttershy changed from an animal lover to an animal hunter, but she absolutely nailed her ability to immediately find that hammer and nails in Discord's house.

The reason Discord doesn't fade away when he can't use his magic is because he doesn't need magic to be chaotic.
Fluttershy being an all-powerful chaos godess is hilarious! She's so shy because she doesn't want to accidentally replace everyone's teeth with popcorn. Kinda like the main girl from the _Is it a Zombie_ anime.😂 Head cannon accepted!
Discord fading after not being chaotic for a bit is like someone with social anxiety fading after having a couple normal conversations

This was a cute episode. The logic behind Discord's existence being wrung out at this point of the show just feels typical more than anything else.
My headcanon as to why Discord only starts to disappear here compared to with Tirek or the Hive is simply that in this case, he doesn't want to actually cause chaos rather than simply unable to do so.
Also like you said, Tirek drained Discord of his magic so it probably also took away the fade away due to no chaos thing which is something Tirek did not have to worry about since all he did was cause chaos and destruction and the Changelings had that device to disrupt any and all magic including Discord’s so that probably once again rendered the fade away because no chaos thing null and void until it was destroyed.

This is a second "Discords date with Fluttershy" episode after Make new Friends but Keep Discord. The only ship with actual development.
If Discord has a body suit of Fluttershy then Fluttershy may have a body suit of Discord. Maybe they made it together. Either way, this episode is one of my favourites. It's really cool. You also nailed the end jokes perfectly.

I think the thing about him not fading away when he’s been unchaotic before is because it wasn’t willingly those times. In this episode, he’s forcing himself to be normal. So I think it’s more of an internal thing than anything

This episode proves Fluttershy is the strongest of the Mane6+1: She can call on Discord anytime, or summarily defeat him. Her choice.
The only sins I take issue with are the ones about Discord's house having continuity errors, like the door handle and the clock.
As Discord lives in a realm of chaos, it's actually IN continuity that nothing in his house follows continuity 😂
But... That's the opposite of what he wants Fluttershy to experience!
I don’t know who that first tea seller was, but she had the peak tomboy hairstyle so she is now my favorite background character alongside Cayenne and Vinyl.

I always wished that this episode hadn't been leaked at the same time as Apple parents episode. This one legitimately made me cry due to the subject they were tackling. As someone that always felt obligated to change myself just to be liked growing up, the feeling of being a shell of a person I should have been still haunts me. Seeing Discord suffer the consequences of masking and being saved by a true friend who still loves him as he is is the sort of happy ending more people need in this world.
Secretly, Fluttershy has been in the chaos realm because she and Discord are... best buddies of course!
Or, she's from the Chaos realm, and isn't telling anyone her family isn't from this world.
The piano sofa wouldn't sound like a piano, because that would be too predictable. Each key would play a note from a different instrument, all from a single shared point on the musical scale. A specific pair of adjacent white keys with a black key between them would play a note from a sousaphone and a triangle respectively, while the black key between them would play a note from a theramin.
Also, each of the musical notes adorning the backrest would, when specifically pressed, play sounds, but not instruments. One would play the sound of a tanker ship's horn, another would play the G1 Transformers' sound effect, yet another would play the teleporter sound from the original Star Trek, one other would play the light saber activation sound effect, etc.

there was an animation error i noticed when watching the episode that hasnt been mentioned here! in the scene when discord starts disapearing and fluttershy says "you're a creature for pure chaos! being normal is destroying you!" discords hair looked like it usually does, this is weird cus he had his mane all neat in the whole tea party. (i have heard hasbro sometimes remakes episodes to cut stuff out but idk if they would have patched something as small as his mane)

jesus christ. you gave me a heart attack when the discord call sound randomly popped up.
This is one of my favorite Season 7 episodes, and one of my favorite Discord episodes over all. Because Discord's "well thought out" plans (SARCASM DETECTED) usually cause chaos and destruction for others.
This one almost killed HIM. It proves that Discord is a can be a danger to himself as well as others. I mean yeah, he was a danger to himself in Seasons 9 and 4, but he also was a danger to all of Equestria.
This episode? Only him. Well, and Fluttershy, but...if the mail pony from Make New Friends But Keep Discord can make it in and out of Chaosville, then so can Fluttershy.
(Oh yeah, Littleshy...is it possible to do a Cinemare Sins on some grimdarks, or other fanfics? So many grammar mistakes...)
