      Oh Yeah.
I live in Corpus Christi, Texas and we have the Wings Over South Texas air show every year either at Naval Air Station Corpus Christi or at NAS Kingsville.
When they fly from Corpus NAS the Blue Angels will fly very very low over my house as I live very close to Corpus Christi Bay where the show is.
But the thing is they'll practice a day or two before the air show and you'll never know when exactly so you can be out walking your dog on a nice sunny day then out of nowhere these powerful fighter jets come out of nowhere and even though they're not allowed to hit the afterburner until they're back over water they're loud.
And there's a lot of vibration.
The walls of your house can vibrate enough for pictures to fall off of the walls.
That didn't even happen in my house even during Hurricane Harvey!!

@@madhatter909 One of the things that makes fighter jets so deadly on the ground is that for whatever reason you really don't hear them coming.
And once they're on top of you it's way too late to run for shelter or cover.
The first time I saw the Blue Angels it really struck me that if they were targeting you then you'd be dead before you even realized how close they really were if you had your back turned to them.
The whole thing with the afterburners really is an experience but what's alway struck me is how close they can get before you hear them and then how loud the planes actually are.

Pilots are required to maintain flight hours for training qualification purposes . I live under the fight path between 4 base airports housing training programs so I have flyovers pretty much every weekend. The airspace above my house frees up from commercial traffic after 10 PM so at night I can walk outside and watch aggressor squadrons and defenders practice their techniques prior to deployments

I live in a small town with a famous rodeo. I play in the mounted band that goes around the arena and plays marching band music before the show. We're just riding out of the arena before the National Anthem and in a huge hurry to get off our horses before the jets fly over. Horses aren't impressed, generally. The sound vibrates through you, and they seem almost low enough to touch. It's chilling and fills me with pride. I feel protected and proud.

The best flyover I have ever witnessed in person came on September 11, 2021 at the BYU-Utah college football rivalry game played at LaVell Edwards Stadium in Provo, Utah. Two fighter jets came down from Hill Air Force Base, north of Salt Lake City, and passed over the stadium right at the end of the national anthem. Both jets opened up their after-burners directly over the field, literally shaking the sold-out 64,000-seat stadium. The crowd's reaction was loud and passionate. The usual rancor between the rival fans of BYU and Utah disappeared that night. We were all Americans, and, those of us old enough to remember, were reminded of how we Americans put our differences aside and were united after the terror attacks of September 11, 2001. BYU won 26 to 17 in an extremely loud, fun atmosphere that night. Utah went on to win the PAC 12 conference championship.

One of the best things about American sports, by a mile. I've been witness to many flyovers at college football games and even at baseball games. The best ones are when they send the fighter jets over at full speed with their afterburners on at night! I remember seeing a Navy F/A-18 Hornet flyover at the National Championship game in Miami between Oklahoma and the University of Southern California. I remember those jets screaming over the stadium at low altitude with their afterburners lit up, and oh my God. Lol. Powerful. Nothing comparable in European sports.

She too wished that this was a regular thing before games, *especially* ones that were big/important! And there's a family of NZ-ers who reacted similarly!
P.S. - 'bonfireman' pointed out that now that London has NFL games, you should see flyovers there; and pointed out that you could have *two* flyovers - one at the end of each anthem! That'd be *majorly* awesome!

You have not lived until you have felt your very soul vibrating from a flyover. I was once privy to an impromptu flyover. I used to be an amateur sports official and one Friday afternoon was working a baseball game in a local town. The baseball field, unbeknownst to me, was in the direct flight path for the small, local airfield. I heard them before I saw them. Two bombers from WW2 were coming in for a landing at the local airfield. One was a B-17 and the other was a B-24. When they flew over the game stopped and those not already standing, stood up. The players, who were 12 years of age, just stood there looking up with their mouths agape. You could hear a pin drop. I was a few feet away from the shortstop and he his only response was "Holy sh*t!". These bombers were on final approach and no more than 100-200 feet off the ground. You could see the tail numbers and the nose art. Best flyover EVER! When I got home I fired up my 56k baud modem (it was a LONG time ago) and found out that the two planes were on a tour of the West coast and would be on display for the weekend at the local airfield. I, of course, went to take a look at them and the fans were allowed to crawl EVERYWHERE on board both aircraft. I'm a bit taller and heavier than the average human and I can attest that there is no wiggle room aboard those aircraft. They still are the Greatest Generation.

I was shopping at the local garden center (centre) and these jets kept flying around, four loudly in formation. Some of the patrons were getting concerned the third pass around. One lady said "is it 9/11 or something?". It was November. The people were very concerned the fourth time around with lots of noise. I recognized them as small, trainer jets and not battle fighters. I decided to say loudly "they're just circling for the NC State football game...it's Military Appreciation Day". They all nodded and simmered down. Without that context it was a very strange thing in such a suburban setting.

College football games have flyovers as well! They don’t have them at every game but I know they do it at least once or twice every season. And, at Mississippi State University (I would guess that other universities might do this as well), we have a separate “event”, where paratroopers jump out of a plane and land on the 50 yard line! That is very impressive as well. There are two military bases within about 100 miles of Mississippi State. All of those events are so wonderful!

I’m sure it’s been mentioned, but do you know the reason for the offset formation in most of the multi-jet flyovers? It’s called the “missing man” formation and is meant to signify the pilots and soldiers lost in combat, with a missing “man” to complete the formation.

It can take off in North Dakota and put 32,000 pounds of smart bombs (or a large nuclear gravity bomb) anywhere on the planet in less than 19 hours, then fly all the way back. Non-stop (It re-fuels midair). Oh, and it's also called a "stealth-bomber" because it has the same radar cross-section as a bumblebee.

But to this day it's also still the shortest building in the world with 70 floors. However again it's still the only skyscraper and tallest building east of Lake Shore Drive in Chicago. The building stands 645 ft. tall. To put that into context, the Washington Monument is 555 ft. tall and the St. Louis Gateway Arch is 630 ft. tall.
My grandparents had a birds-eye view of Navy Pier. And people in the building could always see the fly-bys at Soldier Field as the planes were heading right at you on the south side of the building..And if you're on the upper floors, the planes are often flying below you. LOL! 😅

I live near Atlanta Motor Speedway, and whenever there's a Nascar race, there's a flyover. The first one I experienced scared the crap out of me. The windows rattled, and the walls vibrated. The sound just got louder and louder. I thought it was an earthquake. I ran outside to see jets flying over my house. Amazing. Scared me the first time, but now I look forward to it.

Surprised they don’t. It’s a terrific public outreach thing, plus it’s great training as well.
Because while yes it looks amazing, these crews are flying it as a simulated combat operation. We get a show, they get some good training, win win

My absolute favorite flyover was at the 2022 Nascar Bristol Night race. I was sitting high up in the stands. The sun has just set. The Smokey Mountains in the background and this big old prop plane came flying low over the stadium right at me and banked a hard left at the last second and there were fireworks

As the son of a 31 year Navy veteran, and a veteran myself, I grew up around several Naval Air Stations, so I got to see a wide variety of aircraft doing flight ops. That being said, there's still nothing quite like a flyover. There's just something special about it.
For a slightly different take, but more in just entertainment, check out this video made by some Navy personnel aboard the USS Dwight D Eisenhower (CVN-69). These are "shooters", or catapult shooters. They are the officers that give the final all-clear signal for an aircraft to be launched from the aircraft carrier. It's just a group of guys having a lot of fun with their job.

In the briefing, one of the pilots mentions Zulu time. This is the military's way of saying GMT or UTC. Think of the bases around the world each in its own time zone. If you said the time in your time zone others would have to find out what the offset is from your time. Using Zulu everyone knows his own time zone and it is a simple thing to know what the offset from you to GMT is.

You can't really see or hear the reaction of the crowd in this film. EVERYONE goes nuts cheering. It's my favorite part of every game! I do have to say, I don't live near a military base, but once when a serving President of the US was visiting my town, several (like 5) Apache helicopters flew over my home, low and slow. I had not heard the President was in town and it was scary. The motorcade was on the highway a few blocks south of my house, and they were providing air cover. We are out in the sticks, so the two hospitals right by our house have constant Life Flight helicopters to get critical people into the main medical facilities, so I'm used to helicopters all the time, but this was really different. It was the scary sound from the movies. The kids had a baseball game 2 hours later and all of us moms were saying, what was that? Those were Apache helicopters. Everyone said they had gone outside to watch them and see what was going on. We all thought we were under attack or something. The noise and reverberation is incredible.

Since you two are getting back into sports reactions, it might be a good time to do some baseball ones. Britain is in the World Baseball Classic (baseball’s World Cup) which is coming up in February & March, so it’s as good a time to get into the sport as any. They’re obviously long shots to get out of the group stage (but they do have a couple MLB players, with Jazz Chisholm from the Miami Marlins as their best player), but it could still be fun to follow the UK team when it’s on (it’s a real role reversal of soccer, with the US, the Dominican Republic, & Japan as the favorites this year, while the Netherlands is usually the only European nation that makes a deep run)

The coolest flyover I have ever seen was in the late 80s before they unveiled the B-2 bomber . Is was about 2 or 3 in the morning, I was camping with some friends by a huge army base in central Texas. When 4 F-16 fighter jets flew over in a diamond formation very low. When I say low I mean about a1000 feet. Their noses were pointing up at an unbelievable angle, going as slow as they could. They were standing on the throttle and barely flying . No moon out and not a cloud in the sky, the were stars everywhere. Now right in the middle of the diamond formation was a huge B-2 bomber.
I had no idea what it was, it looked like a space ship from a sci-fi movie. It had the landing gear down and , the Bombay doors were open you could see up inside everything. It was painted white inside, which was good cause I was about to freak right out. Seeing the white paint I said well, what ever it is it's ours.
