- When I wanted to start working on that Ape Escape "promo" video, I couldn't find any high-quality compilations of cutscenes from the American version of the game to use, so I figured I'd do myself (and potential viewers) a favor and record/compile them myself.

I like how this game's premise is very silly but you can tell they put a decent amount of effort into its story
Any premise can make a great story for anything. You just need to utilize it well.
Too many things fall to random and meta humor nowadays. People feel like a silly premise means you can't have the characters respect the stakes.

@@RichterTheRat Agreed. This game was refreshing. I wasn't expecting it to have this many cutscenes and high stakes when I started playing it :) It's even better in the 3rd game which i'm playing now
Thats most anime series/Japanese games in general. This game had great characters, a kickass soundtrack, and fantastic gameplay. Sometimes simplicity is better. Gives more room to work with.
Man. The voice acting is beautiful. Jake and Specter's little back and forth is adorable.

People saying the voice acting is kinda crap but I really liked Specter and the professor's voice. also spike and Jake just for nostalgia. This game was my childhood lol.
Spector on the UK version sounds more intimidating and the professor sounds british with a slight french accent. I think the UK version definitely got the better voice acting, although the US version is also very good :)
The voice acting in this version is the best because, no cap, all the Voice Talents sound like they actually have personalities and weren't just reading a script. They really went out to make the characters their own and man are some of these lines memorable.
Like of all the Specters, I actually felt like this one was, while whiny also smart and calculating and probably going to pull a glock on me if he's pushed to the edge.

remember finding out of this series from the nicktoons animation film festival shorts & falling in love with this series style so much.
There's something I just realized this dub wasn't 100% accurate to the original script when the Professor said that the helmet was never tested and I thought that Ape Escape 3 had this retcon with Dr. Tomoki being the first to test it out. But I found out that that line wasn't in the original script, all the Professor said was that the Peak Point helmet that Specter put on was an unfinished model. I assume Dr. Tomoki did tried out the unfinished prototype helmet but that still doesn't make any sense considering the fact that if the Professor knew that the helmet was unfinished why test it out on someone despite the risk?

There was one for the PSP like Medievil. Except it was weird hearing Richard Horvitz as Spike and Specter voiced by the same guy that did Numbuh 4 from KND. (He also voiced all those fish in Spongebob.) Lol

Specter is one of my favorite characters in the ape eacpae series the second being Natalie and and the computer chick is my third with the fourth being monkey pink.

I like how the Professor warns that time is running out to stop Specter.... how can time run out if he has a time machine? And if Specter is doing things in the past, then the future should already have been changed. They pretty blatantly did not care about any time paradoxes lol but I think that was actually a good decision. It's funny.

Not really, ancient Egypt would be too 'modern' at that time. The Ice Age is what happens next. But I wished that they would have added another time period after the ancient civilizations such as the Renaissance period.(But Ancient Egypt would have worked wonders on the ancient civilization-just scrap one of ancient Asia levels and put ancient Egypt in).

The PAL version has far better voice acting. And better names. I mean, Buzz sounds much cooler than Jake, especially considering the protagonist is named "Spike". And Natalie sounds like she has a male voice actor, while her British counterpart Katie actually sounds feminine!
Ehhhhh, agree to disagree. I've watched some scenes from the PAL version before--I'd argue it's on the same level of "it's obviously not 'professional' but it's still okay 'cause it was just the 90s" as the NTSC version. I guess it just depends on what you're used to.
I do find it interesting that the sequels have separate English dubs, as well. I guess they wanted to keep things consistent.
Except they didn't keep it consistent, because the UK dubs of Ape Escape 2 onwards decided to use the Japanese character names despite the US version still using English ones! Not only is it lazy, it's outright confusing at times. I legitimately thought that Natsumi was a completely different character from Katie at first! Even in Ape Escape P (the PAL name for On the Loose), which is just a remake of the first game, they decided it should be Kakeru vs Hiroki instead of Spike vs Buzz!
