Hey Chris,
Just run across this video and liked it. Vikings Blade named this the Meiji. I’ve had it for 6 Mo now and really like it. Been pairing it with a Nacet Stainless. I start on (5) for first pass then (4) for the rest. I load the blade on (9), which opens the doors all the way, then adjust to (7) or so before closing and have no problem with doors hanging up. (I did have a problem at setting (9)
@@IAMCDB Just a side note, one advantage of an adjustable razor is the blade experience. Blade performance varies on the blade angle and the ability to adjust that opens a whole new world of blade selection. Just my thoughts.
It's certainly pretty enough. I found this review because I am in the market for an adjustable razor and I love the butterfly. Do you have any recommendations? It would be for head shaving mostly. Thank you in advance! Love all your videos 🙌💙🌈💙
Thank you so much. The merkur progress and parker variant are great. This one worked well also but I don't know about the longevity of it. I gave it away:)
Because he didn’t answer your question, get a head blade. You’ll find it much more ergonomic And easier to use on your head. Especially the back when you can’t see it.
What happened to that nice timeless lathering bowl??
Is there any adjustable safety razor, other than the Merkur progress, that has the tabs enclosed? And would be nice to have low profile
What Rockwell do you use.
I'm holding back on getting this razor because of the different side combs. But maybe you're right, and it will be almost no difference. Otherwise I think it's gonna be wasting blades. Great video.
The dual Combs are awesome, especially if you have a sensitive neck. The A symmetrical design is brilliant as you can just flip it for a sensitive area. I have the frosted chrome emperor and it is an amazing razor, No looking back for me. I just bought this version of it and it came in today. I can't wait to try it out it looks way better than any pictures can show.
both sides cut fine but the smooth side is less irritating than the combed side,I use both sides as normal.
I bought the chrome version. I like the razor. I wonder if someone can tell me why the edges of the razor are different. One being smooth and
other with the grooves. Does the grooved edge serve a purpose or just cosmetic?
The grooved side is supposed to be more aggressive and the smooth is supposed to be less aggressive. It is just more fine tuning on top of the tuning.
@@johnmcelroy1589 Thanks. I stopped using it. I bought a Twig razor and like it better.
Is it ideal for head shaving?
Hello there, If I have course hair but sensitive skin, what blade brand and razor would be safe to use? I have the Meiji
I’m In your same boat. I actually use Viking blades green mild razors and I got smooth shave with no razor burn for the first time in my life.
How does aggression compare to a fat boy or slim?
Morning, i bought this blade and used it today and i cut my entire head, what im I doing wrong? Do i need to go slower? I know its a dumb question, just need some advice on how to use this blade
Thank you for the response, Yup its my first time using it. Ive only used disposable razors. I cut my head up pretty bad today using the viking today..any advice would be appreciated!
@@newyorkrican11 ahhhh, this makes sense. There is a learning curve sir. Starting slow is the key. Let everything heal up totally before attempting to do more.
I like mine but the butterfly opening is not fully opening to place in new blade.
Sometimes this can happen with these twist to open razors. Maybe check with them and see if they have a warranty on it.
@Wayne Rowe if you are the original owner according to the website the warranty is a year, I hope that helps
Just notice it’s on max when you wanna load or take out blades , snd adjust it when the doors closed, won’t be any problem this way , don’t work on it like fatboy

Razor setting
My razor does nothing . I’ve tried shaving with it and it literally doesn’t nothing. I don’t get it

I bought one of these a while ago as my first adjustable "butterfly" razor, big mistake. I do not like this razor at all for many reasons. The razor feels cheaply built and the doors were problematic in several ways, including not opening all the way. The blade alignment was off and it rattled like crazy shaving. I think the blade or adjustment even changed as I shaved. Anyway, it really turned me off of the butterfly style adjust able. This razor is my least favorite of all my razors so far, including my 12$ van der Hagen.
I was so impressed with the Rockwell 6s that I ordered a Rockwell T2. I have not received it yet, but I sure hope it is better than this Viking. Based on the quality of the 6s, I cannot see going wrong with the T2. I'd just like a butterfly adjustable that shaves as well as my Merkur Progress. Good video !
The Rockwell will almost assuredly be of better quality than the Viking I imagine. This was given to me and I only used it for this video and gave it away. I didn't have any issues with this razor though.
The best brand new adjustable ?
That's a tough question sir. I like the Rockwell 6S, although it's not truly adjustable per se. It uses different plates to accomplish the same thing as an adjustable razor. The Merkur Progress and Parker Variants are really good adjustable razors. If you want something more efficient, the Merkur Futur is also a great one. On the premium side of the house there's the Rex Ambassador which I like a lot as well.
@@IAMCDB thanks for your super fast reply, actually looking a butterfly open brand new for reminding me as my fatboy and unique looking
@@IAMCDB where’s the country of this razor ? And actually don’t like merkur adjustables because of big ugly head
@@amirhoseinsari5417 If butterfly opening is a requirement, the one that comes to mind is the Rockwell Model T. It's newer - released within the last year or two and is reminiscent of a fatboy or slim.
@@amirhoseinsari5417 I cannot recall to be honest. This video was from about a year ago or so.
It says in the directions not to adjust when open 😂
Why did you change from I lather??
Too much caffeine...
I notice you didn't mention the two sides one side of the razor is different from the other side besides the adjustment,. take a good look at it before you give your review.
Thanks for the comment. I don't really do reviews, I just use things and give my organic reaction as I'm using them. Thanks again for letting me know though.
yea he does at 9:50. watch the whole video
before opening your mouth jackass
@@Richarado1 hey jack ass if you own the razor like I do than you would know besides that is that one size cut more aggressive than the other stupid. smh people comment without actually know much and/or testing it.
I was ready to take the plunge until - I discovered it was made in China...
Barry have you found a quality razor yet? I was going to buy this one until I read your comment
I was also on the fence until I found out that they are beautiful manufactured in China. Go with a Merkur or Muhle; German engineering are second to none!
@@Hardin615 I bought an Edwin Jagger 316 stainless steel safety razor - made in the UK. I absolutely love it..!
This guy is so out of shape he starts breathing heavy just by shaving ,
Some people get issues of either one or both nostrils get plugged up deviated nostril, allergies or just a plain cold/flu;lIke right now my left nostril is halfway plugged up creating a whizing issue.
That particular razor (emperor Augustus) has a anti-misalignment feature that prevents doors from shutting when blade misaligned.
The regular emperor (frosted chrome) does not have that feature.
The dual head allows some fine adjustment as the comb side is a little more aggressive, and straight bar is a little more mild. (Someone having very sensitive skin might notice this more than others)
What does that adjusting actually means? That the blade gets more/less bent depending on your preference? (new to adjustable safety razors here)
Exactly! The angle of the blade changes relative to your face. Your welcome.
I actually foun d found that the straight smooth side is the aggressive. For my coarse beard I use the smooth with the grain and against the grain
