In case it wasn't evident--all of the background vocals in this song were also Geoff. He has a five-octave range.

I highly recommend you checking out Geoff's a cappella group VoicePlay. And with certain background items revealing some of your interests, I will suggest you checking out their cover of Nothing Else Matters, which is a genius arrangement done by Geoff with a special surprise that might be of interest to you!
Really enjoyed your reaction and hope you will react to more Geoff and VoicePlay! I will be keeping an eye out for more!

Absolutely gorgeous arrangement of this song. Most of Geoff's solo stuff are amazing. As others have mentioned, you should also check out the a capella group he is part of: Voiceplay. Geoff's base has an incredible timbre to it... and he has a very wide range. Hoping you will do more...🌹🕊

What more has he done? Man, you are in for a treat.
He's done LOTS. He sings bass (obviously) for an acapella group called Voiceplay, which tends towards really theatrical and dramatic productions. He also has his own productions, which layer his voice several times and use instruments (mostly played by him on synthesizer, he uses Native Instruments plugins as I recall).
If you want to dive into Geoff's solo channel, I'd recommend the duology of Far Over The Misty Mountains Cold and I See Fire (all the dwarves are him, wearing different fake beards).
If you want to check out Voiceplay, you have a lot of choices, all of them great! If you like thunder and fury, I'd recommend Valhalla Calling. If you want heartfelt rock, I like Nothing Else Matters or Dream On. If you like Disney . . . oh, there's LOTS of Disney and musical stuff. And I've got to put in a word for Hoist The Colors, which I feel was a new level of awesomeness and knocked the pants off at least one reviewer-not QUITE literally, but close-
As you can tell, I have a lot of feelings about this. Honestly, just pick something and have fun. Welcome to Geoff and Voiceplay!

Great reaction, thank you! Geoff does his own arrangements and video design and editing... his wife, Kathy, is his production manager (she is also production manager for VoicePlay) - and the "wind machine" is Kathy with a fan. Low tech, gorgeous results. Everything he does is a home run, but I recommend Ain't No Sunshine. Another very emotional song and just gorgeous.

Hello from Oregon! Geoff really is a force of nature with an insanely low (and high) voice. Your face really is the reaction we get every single time we heard Geoff hit those ground-shaking notes. Thanks so much!

Geoff (Jeff) is the bass singer for his acapella group and a founding memeber of VoicePlay. All the background voices you hear are also Geoff. He has tutorials on how he sings low.

  • @bjspeck4337

Geoff has an amazing voice that covers a little over 5 octaves, from A0 (growl), B0 (subharmonics), F1 (full chest) in the 4th octave he sometimes uses a mix of head and chest, at the top of his range is Bb5. The voices you heard in the background is all him, layering the harmon ies. This is one of the rare videos where you hear but don't see his Geoff clones. We fans of Geoff and VoicePlay (a cappella (also often with theatrical and drama in the videos) consisting of 4 guys and one featured guest vocalist). They had one of the original members Earl Elkins (terrific tenor) from back in 1997 leave about 3 yrs ago for personal reasons and J None (a baritone) was recruited into the US Navy about 2.5 yrs ago for his vocal skills. He comes back to be a guest vocalist as often as he can. He's a little over his halfway point. A lot of us are hoping he'll be back. You can see his recent work with VoicePlay: Friends on the Other Side (The Princess and the Frog), Nothing Else Matters (Metallica), Valhalla Calling (Miracle of Sound), In the Air Tonight (Phil Collins), Hellfire (Hunchback of Notre Dame). An earlier one with both Earl and J None is Queen in 5 Minutes as well as Tennessee Whiskey (Chris Stapleton). VoicePlay's remaining guys are Geoff Castellucci (bass), Layne Stein (vocal percussion, great range, baritone, and classical violin) (both of these guys are original members from middle and high school chorus), Eli Jacobsen (tenor 1, also known as Rock God) was from the same area of but a different school, but their respective chorus competed with each other. Eli went on to be in a couple of rock bands, but came on with VoicePlay in 2010. With 2 vocalists gone, VoicePlay auditioned and brought in Cesar de la Rosa with fine baritone and tenor ranges. A couple of songs with the setup they have now are: Creep (RadioHead), Hoist the Colors (Pirates of the Caribbean), Dragonborn Comes Skyrim), a fun one - Drunken Sailor We VoicePlay fans would love to be with you if you go down the amazing rabbit hole that is both Geoff and VoicePlay. A couple more of just Geoff: Way Down (Elvis), Ain't No Sunshine (Bill Withers), I See Fire (the Hobbit - Desolation of Smaug), Jack's Lament (Nightmare Before Christmas), Till Then (Mills Brothers), The House of the Rising Sun (The Animals).

I subscribed in hopes of seeing more reactions to Geoff Castellucci and his group VoicePlay. When he wants to do Acapella music he sing with the group. He arranges about half of the songs that they sing and he arranges the music on his solo channel himself.

He has a range in his voice that allows him to nail a horseshoe to the devil and kiss the wings of an angel at the same time.
Also a force with which he could lift the Taitanic.... 😀

Just wanted to make sure you know that nearly all the sounds in this video were produced by a piano, and Geoff's voice. That isn't a Bass, or electronically generated. That is his voice. Not totally sure about the percussion - but that could all be made by by Geoff too. Look up anything he has done, and take in the acapella group he is a big part of - Voiceplay.

0:52 Yeah, that's known as a Geoff(Jeff)-quake! He doesn't call his videos "Low bass singer cover" for nothing! And all of the other voices you hear in harmony are also sung by Geoff - he has a 5 octave(!) range, from low bass up to tenor.
Try anything on his solo channel and I don't think you'll be disappointed. And he also sings bass for the a cappella group VoicePlay, so check them out as well!

DAYUM Dudes got low vocals. There are times I can tell a guy probably has low vocals. This wasn't one of those times.
MOST commonly, it's males that have low(er) vocals. Some females can get low, but still not near as low as some guys can. Just as there are guys that can hit some high, high notes - but most commonly it's some females that hit the high(er) notes. This is valid to why they're referred to, as... females; soprano and also - males, tenor and bass.

This is one of only two, I think, where Geoff appears alone. His normal way is to clone himself to sing all the parts of the arrangements he writes. In this one you only hear his other voices. As always he makes a song all his own.

Not many people are prepared for Geoff (Jeff) and his low notes.
The best I've heard this song described is the Original (Simon and Garfunkel) was the warning, Disturbed's the anger for not heading the warning, Pentatonix the contemplating of not heading the warning, and Geoff's the sorrow for not heading the warning but still having a sense of hope.
