I really find it hard to believe that no sub commander or other top official understands how EMPs can obliterate electronics. It seems like everyone is totally ignorant of this fact.
Much better than anticipated. This movie made me think of Rev 8 "A third of the earth was burned up, a third of the trees were burned up, and all the green grass was burned up. a third of the living creatures in the sea died, and a third of the ships were destroyed. the name of the star is Wormwood."
That is why I have clicked on it. I watched one Isiah 24:20 came to thought.

I didn't know what to expect from this film, but it exceeded those expectations. The film held my interest from start to finish. The acting was believable, the plot made sense, and the pacing was perfect. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
I must have watched a different movie. It was awful.

If only it was that simple. I still believe that when earth is hit by a CME we must turn off everything including the power grid. To be completely offline is the only option.

@@lethabrooks9112I heard about that, I'm impressed it was only down for 9 hours. Here in the northern US, we've sometimes lost power for that long just due to normal winter blizzards, no CME required.

Nice film, but i could not share the celebration in the end, with that short term solution. What about afterwards and all that radioactivity? And blowing the northpole to bits. I would say we would have a new disaster afterwards. 😮💨😖
They were not obliterating the North Pole. Just putting some water in to the upper atmosphere to quench the sky fire.

Good movie but what I don't understand is:-
1) why don't the president of America inform the American sub? There's got to be another way to send them a message or communicate. Right??
2) when Lucas was in the Russian sub and heard the American subs are near, he would've told them to hold their fire earlier. 🤔. If he told them then there's a chance they won't be wasting torpedoes 🤔

I have watched this movie at least twice since original release. BUT NOW it is highly relevant since unorecedented CMEs and solarflares are being spewn out and some are passing through magnetosphere, hitting earth.
The Ruskies, especially the cap, in this one were very convincing. Yet-more fine casting.

solar flare takes 8 minutes to reach the earth, meanwhile we have 'conferences' car travel and travel to a submarine to do something to prevent it .Too silly for words.
According to NOAA the fastest CME takes 15-18 hours; slower ones several days.
Solar flares travel at the speed of light, there are numerous sites on the internet that confirm this. NESDIS is one such site .

Light takes around 8 minutes to reach the Earth from the sun.
Light is made of photons which are massless so they travel at the speed of light.
A CME has mass so can not travel anywhere near the speed of light and takes 15 hours to several days to travel the same distance.

Why didn’t Lucas get on the phone with the American sub before they released four missles???? The Russian captain was really good! He was the best one in the movie
Message from the Old Age People's Home.: What the hell is going on out there? Five missiles hit the North pole and suddenly my tea surface is at a greater angle relative to the side of the cup that the tower of Pisa. Most of the tea was saved but one side of the dup is about 2cm higher than the other on the cup's east side. That must mean out eastern shores are 2cm highers or our western shores are 2 cm s lower. Luckily high tide is not for some time. How about a quick counter balance strike at the south pole to make our tea level again? Or supper time could be total chaos when they try to serve tonights meat and gravy on ordinary supper plates.
It's not a lot to ask for is it? The old people's tea at an equal level from the cup's brim. Oh well done for saving the planet.
