    I bought my first r170 last year and it's a 230 kompressor 1998. It was high mileage at 150k miles but Mercedes dealer serviced. They are easy to work on and the parts aren't expensive and 2nd hand spares are easy to find. Like the guy says its possible now to get hold of one at a good price. I really love mine and I'd recommend the r170 all day long

    top video....had mine 6 years..early 1997 230 k...if ur supercharger doesnt engage get a new cam sensor..worked for me....also if u get the yellow water light coming on and off here n there then make sure the lead from the battery plus terminal that goes to like a link box on the other side of the engine then to the fan controller...mine was a bit loose..after tightening it at the battery terminal proper had no issues since....

    Great video! Thanks for takin the time to make this. I just bought a bright yellow 99 with the nice big 5 spoke slk wheels for 1500. It has high miles... over 205k

      @@curtisducati Im over in California. Thats great you got 2. I was gonna go buy a sliver one a few weeks ago but somebody beat me to it. It had minor fender and quarter damage. I've been practicing paintless dent repair and figured it would be an easy fix.

      I’m looking at one now with much lower miles, but was wondering if yours tends to have any major problems?

    • @futureconsequence5374
      @futureconsequence5374 Před 2 lety

      @@MemorableJ Well Just keep in mind that because it is an older car it will require money to maintain. Due to simple things like basic wear and tear. Anything over 100k miles typically needs routine work. From suspension parts that are worn out to engine and electrical parts that will eventually need to be replaced.
      Unfortunately mercedes aren't best known for low price parts.

    I'm Buying a 2001 R170 slk 230 and paid to have a Pre purchase inspection done and everything is pretty much as perfect as can be with an older European vehicle, the Top works perfect, No leaks at all and the Kompressor Clutch was replaced by a Mercedes dealership all seals have been changed, it has service records since new and is a one owner car , the interior looks brand new with no warn parts or surfaces, and the price I'm buying it for is super cheap and even if something does go wrong I'm a A.S.E. certified Mechanic for Domestic and import vehicles as well as a Auto body technician so servicing and making repairs is not a deal breaker especially for a beautiful Mercedes.

    I bought one 2 years ago , it was in pretty bad shape its not a kompressor , simple SLK 200 / 136 hp , Fun car to drive.
    We spent a lot of money to fix the looks and the roof (man the roof was expensive). The engine is good !
    Both me and my dad are above 185 cm and still with the roof down it's pretty confortable to drive the car in short distances !

    I hve a 2001 ordered used frm Japan (SBT-JAPAN) thy cheated on grading it and I had to replace one broken front coil spring...waterpump...brake pads set front and rear...v belt free pulley assembly..and hardly drove it for 500kms..fell ill in 2017 n had 2 major surgeries.....now the gear stick wont come out of park ..the engine wont crank...replaced the brake light switch n still the same issue ! The interior is poor...unfortunately I am still not tht fit...so I cannot work on it myself...thinking of removing my vehicle from my previous work place..(as m now no longer working due to my health condition.) , just though....being a Mercedes Benz and have noted most of them have their interior deteriorate not like Japanese vehicles especially the luxurious ones!. I feel this SLK 320 R170 465 could be a wrong buy...I live in Dar es salaam Tanzania.

      Are you sure the battery is charged enough? You could also check the ECU of the car with the use of a ECU reader, perhaps there are some other problems. Hope it is just the battery.

    Him, so the second gen is more reliable, because it's younger? I only consider manual transmission cars. These are better than Z3 and Z4's right?

      BMW and Mercedes are a bit different. Mercedes SLK is more comfortable, BMW is more driver orientated.
