  • The U.S. Coast Guard Silent Drill Team demonstrated a routine outside City Hall in New York to help celebrate the designation of New York as the largest official Coast Guard City, an honorary title for communities that celebrate the men and women of the service, on May 10, 2018.
Admiral Paul Zukunft, the commandant of the United States Coast Guard, joined Mayor Bill de Blasio, Staten Island Borough President James Oddo, and several other city officials at the ceremony.
From the Coast Guard: "Established by Congress in 1998, a Coast Guard City is an honorary designation recognizing communities' special efforts to celebrate the service and sacrifice of Coast Guard men and women. This designation recognizes New York City's longstanding efforts to embrace Coast Guard men, women, and families stationed in Staten Island during their tour of duty in New York City."
