Believe it or not it is because of her rap song "My Vag" Which blew up for some reason. So she started out as a rapper. Then went to Tv then to movies. I think it was the novelty of a female comedian asian rapper.

She got big slowly over time as a rapper, then actor, and her films kept making money so they kept promoting her to bigger roles. She's a rapper, so she's "urban" and hip, she's a woman, and asian, so that's a two-fer for diversity. However, I don't think anyone actually likes her.

Also, when Comedy Central was promoting one of her shows about Queens New York starting herself, she took over the Flushing Line (7) announcements for two weeks where she inserted station stops with bad puns, sightseeing locations, and safety notices in pun format. It drove the passengers insane and thousands reported and hated her announcements.

Well, this was quite a mean piece of content. And the comments... Wow... I just realised that maybe I like her stuff for the same reason you hate it. I love her wacky albums and listen to them almost every day when commuting. She's witty... And I like her low-key acting in movies. So you should consider that maybe she strikes a chord with people outside your own, seemingly quite narrow, circle.
I was strictly talking about her as an entertainer. Not her character. Which if your going to be one your going to get criticism. And I pointed out that she is apparently good in "The Farewell" And maybe she should focus on better roles. Also I don't control what other people think.

I don't find that terribly surprising, I don't think it's a big conspiracy or any particular attribute or process of society; it's a universal truth about how the universe works. Fame and wealth strikes people at random. It could have happened to anyone, and it happens at random. Of course, the transmission is by means of _someone_ who decides to include her in a movie, but they could have chosen any of a million of other semi-entertaining CZcams personalities.
