- Would the world of psychedelic music have been complete WITHOUT this song? I can't imagine it! The nerve of some people calling this "bubblegum psychedelia" (LOL). Yeah, right
up there with The Ohio Express and The Archies! What a horrid thought. The "matchstick men" as it turns out were intended to be the human figures that populated the art city landscapes painted by L. S. Lowry, not actual matchstick men like "the dancing men" figures that appear in the Sherlock Holmes story of the same title by Arthur Conan Doyle. Oh well, have my own "matchstick men" (not really all that matchstick like) playing guitars in this video. And, as the song lyrics go, the singer is also quite preoccupied or obsessed by a certain young lady's quite lovely face. Managed that one pretty well, I hope. Ultimately, it is all rather sad: "You in the sky you with this guy you make men cry you lie." But I didn't dwell. Why ruin such a sunny, summer psychedelic hit with all that boo-hooing? Released in November 1967, this was the band's only major hit single. It reached #7 in the UK (of course), #8 in Canada, and a not too shabby #12 in the US on Billboard and #11 on Cash Box on the week ending August 24, 1968. In a previous post you mentioned that in your original Becks Bolero, you had over 1 million views in one day I think. I’ve probably watched it 100 times. I was going through a rough period for a while and it really helped me get through it. I can’t explain why it affected me the way it did. It just lifted my spirits. To me, it’s by far the most passionate video I’ve seen on YT.
Thanks Jay! It was an important video to me as well. It lifted your spirits probably because Raphaella was an exceptionally beautiful woman, she was very expressive and had eyes that could penetrate your soul when she looked directly into the camera. I have never seen anyone quite like her.
I hope Raphaella is okay and nothing bad has happened to her. I’ll bet in the few years that she’s been absent from the internet, she is more beautiful than ever. I hope she reappears soon and has been enjoying life. She has such natural beauty.
She has been missing for more than a few years. Her last communication to anyone was on Facebook on May 5, 2016. That will be eight (8) years ago come this May 5. She's been gone the better part of a decade. I didn't even know she was missing until 18 months later. Another Manchester model turned up on Cable TV and Internet news reports, Chloe Ayling. She had been abducted in Italy when she traveled there for what turned out to be a phony photo shoot. She was to be auctioned off as a sex slave on the deep net, but the guy who abducted her let her go after finding out she was pregnant. In an interview she gave, she said other models had not been so lucky. That alerted me. I checked Raphaella's blog which I had been reading off and on since 2014, noticed some missing (or deleted) entries and a dead link to a new blog and forum she had been working on. I put two videos about her up on YT. I have since made a third one pertaining to her disappearance on Vimeo, but it will get age restricted if I upload it to YT. I felt it was still possible she might be alive in 2019, so I really hammered away on the subject on the videos and even exchanged info I uncovered with a retired Scotland Yard detective who was posting on here. I never got a chance to completely discuss everything with him because YT terminated my channel. Anyway, I am sorry to say, I now believe she is dead. Long dead. Beyond all help and all hope. Too many years have gone by. So, no, she will never reappear in the way you hope. RIP Raphaella McNamara.

Ballpark! I have 9-16-15 for the creation date. Wonder why I waited two days to upload it? I had just uploaded "Take Me To The River" by Talking Heads and would next put up a revised version of Kiss "I Was Made For Lovin' You." My Talking Heads video did very good on CZcams, lots of likes, comments, and views, more than the Status Quo video for some reason. Thanks!
@@mikemunrowsretro8973 It may have taken me two days to find it. I can see how Talking Heads would beat Status Quo. I only saw Heads live once on Nov 5 or 6, 1979 at Emerald City in Cherry Hill NJ. Whew. 40 years. How the heck did that happen?
@@DevataDavis I have a hard believing the late 70's and 80's are so long ago too. The 90's seem reasonably contemporary still ... by that time we had entered the digital age and the Internet. Most advancements over the last 28 years have been more or less relative. We had cell phones in the late 80's. If it wasn't for the pandemic, there would not be a lot of difference between 2022 and 2002. I think flying cars and holographic communication, and AI too, will be the things that will really change the times. We should have been on Mars 20 years ago.
This song has real meaning as a loved one of mine has slipped into a state of no longer recognizing me. I hope she recovers and will be able to return home.

When I look up to the sky
Yeah, the lines I'm referring to are near the end of the song, not at the beginning where "When I look up to the sky / I see your eyes, a funny kind of yellow" is located. LyricFind on Google still indicates in the verse ... just before the final chorus that fades the song out ... "You in the sky, you with this guy / You make me cry, you lie / You in the sky, you with this guy / You make me cry, you lie." In all honesty, back in the AM radio days of the '60's and early 70's, listening to music on transistor and car radios, lyrics were not always all that easy for me to make out, LOL. For that matter not all of today's digital songs are that easy either.

That's Raphaella McNamara (also was known as Raphaella WithLove). I consider her to be one of the best glamour models of this century, hailing from Manchester, England. Raphaella disappeared from the Internet at age 25 after a message she posted on Facebook on May 5, 2016. No one seems to know what happened to her. I have feared the worst since the Chloe Ayling (also a Manchester model) sex trafficking/abduction case broke in late 2017. If Raphaella is alive she would be 32 now, going on 33.
