  • I don't really hate this plane... But, If you have the Eflite Ultimate 3D you MUST perform this modification for better flight performance. Removing almost 6oz of dead weight

      Mine flew a bit better without the weights... I've switched to a lighter more purpose build 3D plane now.. The Skywing 48" Edge 540.. I sold my Ultimate shortly after maiden of that Edge 540... Have fun with yours... Thanks for watching. Will

    Great info there Will. There are a lot of planes out there that can benefit from a diet...

      For sure.. I assume Eflite had a reason to add the 5.5oz. Maybe to get the CG right for the 3S pilots.. I think when manufacturers try to accommodate the 3S and 4S crowd, they product a plane that flies mediocre in both cases.. They should just focus on one or the other.. I saw that in my Turbo Timber, P-51 and this Ultimate. As always.. Appreciate your comments..

      @@SteffenRC Yeah man I agree. I'd just power it with as much as possible, and throttle back. That said offering something that folks can fly with packs they already have is a smart marketing move I suppose. Truthfully, most pilots can't feel the difference. You are analyzing and looking for the best set up. The average modeler just sets it up per the book, and never knows it could be any better.

    • @SteffenRC
      @SteffenRC  Před rokem +2

      Probably right.. I see that at my field all the time.. Someone breaks a prop and then says "Eflite prop is out of stock", so they can't fly for a while.. I mention the same APC prop is at the Hobby Shop down the road and they look at me like I have horns growing out my head... I guess I'll just keep educating as many as possible...

      It was a good plane for aerobatics, but not as capable as my Edge 540 on 3D, so I sold it to a buddy. Great looking plane for sure.. Glad you enjoy yours...

    Did you print that tray to get real battery straps in there?

      Nope, thats the stock tray with some of that rubber shelf mat material glued on. I did make some slots in the stock tray and ran a REAL strap through it to get better retention than stock straps... - Will

    Hey! thanks for the video. I just got mine and 2 of the weights just fell out on their own :) had to fish the other side out. But my ECS is loose and not secured in any way, is that the case with yours? Or did you secure it yourself? tnx

    • @SteffenRC

      My ESC wasn't secured either. I zip tied it to the underside of the battery tray.

    I just got this plane, tried it with a 3s battery, crashed it 2 out of the 3 times I flew it.
    I guess I'll try removing the weights and a 4s battery.

    I removed the weights too after hearing about them by prying them from the forward vents with a long flat head screwdriver.

    • @SteffenRC

      It made a significant difference, but not enough to make it my everyday 3D plane. I recently purchased a Skywing 48" Edge 540. I'm still learning 3d/Free style aerobatics and the Edge was highly recommended as a next step.. (btw, the Twisted Hobbys Crack Yak is the most fun plane you can buy...).

  • @protoplasmia
    @protoplasmia Před rokem +1

    Yup ... I found the same posting in RCGroups and removed the weights .. it finally flies great without 150g of extra weight. Like you .. I originally hated it .... Did HorizonHobby even test this plane?

    • @SteffenRC
      @SteffenRC  Před rokem

      I thought someone on RCG made a comment that made sense... Perhaps Eflite was trying to cater to the 3S and 4S crowds.. So the 3S required a bit of weight in order to get the CG right... I dunno, but it flies better without that weight.. Is it a floaty 3D plane...? Nope... I don't think I'll scrap her yet.. I plane on pushing myself with this before I pull the trigger on a better freestyle aerobatic/3D plane...

      @@RC-planes. They account for the AS3X/SAFE and SMART tech they add, and many times they chose to power them differently (more usually). A great example was turning the 64mm A-10 into a 6s instead of 4s. Made a world of difference. Still...you can buy what you want so something for everyone. 😃

    Are you kidding me in a 300 dollar plane 🤦🏿? The plane shouldnt be front heavy for 3D. What were they thinking putting that chunk of weight upfront???

    • @SteffenRC
      @SteffenRC  Před 6 měsíci +1

      There are weights in lots of our planes. When a plane like this Ultimate are sold to fly with 3S and 4S, the manufactures need to make sure the plane is more nose heavy for those who might use a 3S than tailheavy. Also, it insures the success for the newer pilot who is most likely not doing 3D/post stall maneuvers and is just performing basic aerobatics. At least thats my take on why they do it...
