JBL vs Finlay at 24 is so underrated. Burly boys beating each other up and Bradshaw throwing a garbage can at Hornswoggle 😂😂. Soooo good.

Honestly shocked that Rey vs. Eddie from 21 didn't feature on the list. Sure the story was a little bare-bones (Eddie and Rey were the tag champs but Eddie wanted to prove who was better between the two?) but the match was a rock solid workhorse match between two of the greatest.
Honestly Rey's mask did it's Hulk Hogan impression and said "this doesn't work for me brother"! They had a lot of great bouts but Mysterio's mask sliding all over and them having to stop mid move so Rey could fix it took a lot of people out of the match at WM21.
Crazy cause ive watched that match like 10 times and never noticed the mask thing
@@paulweston8408 Oh man, my mom brought me to WM21, and asked "Why does he keep messing with his mask like that?" And I haven't been able to watch it without gritted teeth since.
I had the fantastic fortune to accidentally fall into tickets for WM 30 literally the week before the event. The deafening silence of the end of The Streak brought such an amazing contrast to the massive explosion of cheers from Bryan's title win. It was utterly surreal in a way that I can't really effectively explain.
I really loved the opening Intercontinental Championship ladder match from WrestleMania 31. It was so fun that WWE did the same kind of match again for the next WrestleMania!
It'd be cool to see a Razor Ramon Memorial ladder match Every year at WM

I feel like the top two here are very much neck and neck with the only real deciding factors being when you started watching wrestling. i.e. I didn't start watching wrestling till far later than most and as such missed out on the earlier Manias, etc... so for me the Dbry match is just inches above, though I absolutely see the argument either way.

Because of much better matchups that have had a better, longer, well told story that should main event night 1 over it…cough cough…Sami and Kevin Owens vs the USOs.
Because Ripley was sad that her family can't show up to see it due to covid 19
Also CHarlotte flair killed viewerships for NXT, prefering to watch AEW which had better booking decisions.
Also because everyone is sick to death of Charlotte's borderline no-selling, making opponents look significantly worse than her and terrible booking of her matches
Zayn & Owens against Usos MAKES SENSE. Who cares of a WM 36 rematch since we (and mostly the entire world) were getting through the pandemic to care about that "revenge" angle.
Also we don't need another flair main event

The Rockers Vs Barbarian and Haku is probably the only pre Wrestlemania X match that should get an honourable mention here.
Only one that comes close would be HBK/Tatanka at IX. That would definitely be #2.

Drew/Lashley from 37 Night 1 and RKBro/Street Profits/Alpha Academy from 38 Night 2 are sleeper hits; both are so much fun
I loved the IC Ladder Match at WM 32. While it should have been Zayn vs Owen's in a Ladder Match to callback their Ladder war. This match delivered in terms of Talent,Spots and psychology. Cardona winning was really unexpected and Emotional(Let's forget he lost it the next night)
The fact WWE ruined Ryder from that as well as the Eve Torres betrayal which led him to get pushed off in a wheelchair by Kane. Hope he returns to WWE with his new style and persona.

Cody's departure from AEW came around when WrestleMania going back at AT&T Stadium. He returned where his last WrestleMania emanated. Man, fate is really unfathomable.
That Rollins Balor Miz triple threat will always have a place in my heart, due to watching it down the pub and just as Balor looked about to tap I said “hang on, where the hell is Seth?” Less than a second before Seth slams into frame, followed by almost all my friends screaming “THERE HE IS!!!” Glorious night out, that.
*Seth Rollins vs Finn Bálor vs The Miz* was a fun match and capitalized Rollins as Mr. Monday Night across 2018.
And it was pretty much the Best Match of a rather underwelming WM The Mixed tag match follows

I don't think we've seen a babyface get so organically over on pure workrate alone since Monday Night Rollins in 2018, was really special to watch.
It goes to show AJ Styles is one of the exceptional few who can pull a great match out of anyone, including Papa Shane.
I Loved that AJ vs Shane Match, saw it live, one day after meeting Adam in Orlando.
It was way better than it had any right to be, the only time he could argue he was the best in the world (joking obviously)
And the funny thing is
Both of them had bad matches at Wrestlemania 32
But then one year later, their match was better by versing each other
And had great chemistry with one another

Honourable Mention to Rey Mysterio vs Eddie Guerrero. A great opener for WM 21 and great "start" to the story and heel turn of Eddie Guerrero.
I won’t lie, I was really hoping for an intercontinental championship ladder match instead of the three way this year but this could absolutely be match of the year either way
I find it weird that this list has every single WM30+ match and only one from before 25. I know a bunch of the early ones used the opener more like what we'd call the "pre-show" now but still.
Realistically, it took WWF/E a long time to figure out how to structure PPV cards. Honestly, the Monday Night Wars are where they finally started to learn, because they were forced to, as Nitro ended up having longer shows which started earlier, so RAW had to strike back with something attention-grabbing to pull viewers away. But even then, when I think of great opening matches, I usually think of either cruiserweight style fast-paced action, ideally tag teams or multi-man matches, or short, brutal main event type matches with personal grudges or gold on the line. 1997 WCW showed them how it was done, but their hiring ideology for talent didn't fit until the 2010s, when they really started fielding smaller guys and former independent scene stars.
It took as long as WrestleMania 21 in 2005 to consistently give a hot opener every year.
Wow really really shocked Eddie v Rey at WM21 isn't on here. That match is my number 2 after Bret v Owen

Y2j vs Regal was excellent, same with 18 which from memory was RVD vs Regal... both could've taken a spot or at least a honorable mention on this list.
Another thing that I imagine went into making #1 so good is it was the First pay per view if I remember correctly on the new WWE Network. Priced at...say it with me...$9.99 it was the First time in a while many of us got to watch the show live.

I see why 1 and 2 are there and I agree depending on the day o can’t argue with the statement. But Owen vs Bret is the definition of what wrestling is. And the way it ended with a victory roll was beautiful

Even though the build hasn't been great Charlotte vs Rhea at Mitb 2021 was one of my fav women's matches ever so I'm pretty excited for the Mania match. Strap mami to the moon hunter!
Great List brotha, perfect Top 5. I was at the Wrestlemania 23 ladder match as it was like 30 minutes from my house at the time, but traffic made it almost 2 hours (both on the road and getting into the arena)
Underrated Match #1 was JBL vs Finley at WM24. I enjoyed that one.
No mention of Rey Mysterio vs. Eddie Guerrero at WM 21? I freaking loved that match and easily in my Top 5 of best Wrestlemania openers.

JBL vs Finlay was one of my favorite opening matches. That was a hard hitting match and JBL smacking Hornswaggle by throwing a thrash can at him was too good!!
The IC match from 32 in Dallas was my favorite. It's the only surprise that really made me happy.
One of my favorite Wrestlemania matches was the opener of Mania 8.
Shawn Michaels, in his first PPV appearance after Marty Jannetty tried to dive through the window of "The Barber Shop", along with Sensational Sherry, vs "El Matador" Tito Santana.
An excellent match between two of the best workhorses in the WWF, with commentary by the greatest duo in WWF history, Monsoon & Heenan.
That finn balor entrance from mania 34 put a smile to my face even before I came out

I do love eddie vs rey at 21 but honorable mention to jbl vs fit finley at mania 24, just for the finley suicide dive and the trash can being chucked at hornswoggle. Poor guy can't catch a break in these opening matches

After experiencing the tragedy of the 2014 Royal Rumble. Wrestlemania 30 is a show that I couldn't really enjoy as much in the moment because I was so invested in Daniel Bryan winning the WWE Title that I spent the whole show worrying that it wasn't going to happen more than focusing on the quality of the show I was watching, which in retrospect turned out to be a pretty great show! A monster indeed and why I would also rank Bryan vs HHH as number 1.
My favorite has gotta be Balor, Rollins, and Miz. It was so awesome. Shane Vs Aj was incredible too.

Rey vs. Eddie at Mania 21 deserves a mention. Yes, Rey's mask kept trying to ruin it, but it was well-worked, fast-paced, had nice counters, an invested crowd, an out-of-nowhere finish, and set the table for their feud soon after. Btw, Daniel vs. Triple H at Mania 30 is probably the first long match Trips has had at Mania that didn't feel boring as piss.
I was 10 years old when, Owen and Bret opened mania in 94 , it was such a good match and felt like a revelation at the time so far away from the Hogan ,warrior era that first caught my imagination ,

I don't know, I feel like the first match of the second night isn't the opening match. Perhaps because I see the show as a whole and not two separate events, for lack of a better explanation.
Cannot argue with the top two. Both were amazing matches and both were fantastic towards the overall narrative of their respective night.
