I've started at 20, and I still became a professionnal harpist.
There's no age for dreams :)
Amazing! Here's to disproving stereotypes, right? Thanks so much for sharing, Elvann!
My pleasure! I think we should collab on something eventually :P I was thinking of maybe inviting you to one of my streams so we just discuss about our respective musical journeys in an interview kind of form :P I don't know if you'd like to do something like that, but if so let me know and we could set something up :)
Hi Elvann! Just saw this comment again - we should definitely do something like this early next year, I'm keen!! :)
Hey congrats! How long do you think it takes to be able to play the harder classical pieces? I’m a “pianist” but ever since moving out (I let the piano at my parents) I wanted to start learning an instrument that’s “easier” to carry around ^^’ and the harp just sounds heavenly 😍
How encouraging! I have been playing the harp for five years. I am 63 years old, and totally blind. The harp is such a joy to me. Your lovely video caused me to smile with such happiness! Thank you again
Hi Ann. How amazing to see your message; you made ME smile! Thank-you for sharing. Do you ever play your harp for other people, or is it mostly at home?
Hello again, I have played for my church art exhibit. I was the background music. Also, I am in a program in which Upon completion I will become a certified health musician playing at the bed side of the actively dying.
"Sometimes we procrastinate for so long that we end up kind of giving up on something and I think for some of us is time to forgive yourself for years of procrastinating and just move on from that and allow yourself to chase your dream" - thank you for this beautiful message! I really needed this.
Such a pleasure! I'm glad it was encouraging for you :) Do you plan to start playing the harp? xx
I've already been learning for one year and now I had a year break. I was discouraged at the beginning because the learning process is so slow for me, I feel like I'm always gonna suck at harp, I can't imagine myself as this person who learned the harp well and plays for others, whether at small musical events or for therapy, and this is something I had in mind when I bought my harp. I also have irrational thoughts that it's too late to achieve this dream and other goals too. Your words inspired me, because I definitely need to forgive myself - I'm not doomed to be a failure, I had other things in my life going on, so I'm letting the guilt go and starting a new page :)
That's great to hear! So important to be forgiving of ourselves, and remember that it's not important to be an expert, we each learn at our own pace
This is so cool. I’m watching the video while reading comments and when I saw this comment, I’m at the point where she says this quote. Now I’m feeling emotional.
I've been wanting to play the harp since I was 3 years old, no one really took me seriously when I told them and my parents never had enough money for it. I'm 25 now but I think I'm finally going to do it!
Thank you for this video it inspired me :)
Any update? I'm 23. Got no money yet. I think I might be able to save enough money after 3 years huhuhu
@@Chamomile369 hope it is all going well with you friend. I am 31 and I be learning to play my self. Pray for me friends :)
I'm 59 in a month and started my harp journey a year ago. I couldn't even read music! I bought a freinds older harp. This year my hubby had a lever harp made for me. I found a passion I never thought I would have. Being older I have more time. Yes it can be fustrating but I love it.
Starting at 41. First instructor didn't see the point of me learning at my age. Second instructor used Suzuki method and sold me a harpsicle lap harp. Third tutor is going over music theory and more developed techniques. I'm upgrading to a Salvi Celtic Lever harp.
thank you so much for this :( I'm crying so much because I was so afraid that my dreams would end knowing that a lot of harpists started out when they were still kids :( Thank you so much! :(
Hi Cristina. Wow, I'm so privileged that my video touched your heart in such a real way! Thank-you for telling me about that :) Yes, it is totally possible to learn as an adult. It can be such a wonderful exciting journey! Do you think you will be able to get a harp and start learning? It's such an amazing thing to finally tackle your dreams!
Im 66 and started a month ago and its going great and Im having so much fun!
A harpist and a life coach? Thank you for this.
This is so comforting 🥺 thank you for making it. I'm gonna watch this every day so I don't give up because I'm "too old"
If that's what it takes - do it! You're never too old, and it's a beautiful and exciting thing to begin no matter your life stage☺️. There are so many people in the harp community from all different walks of life and ages! I'm so glad this brought you comfort. 🥰 Nicole, LTH Team Member
Thank you for the encouragement, I am 75 and in a month or so I can add a year to that. I am so looking forward to playing the harp, don't have one yet, but hopefully that will change in a very short time.
Well, I think I’ve actually watched this video at least 10 times and it helps me every time and gives me trust. I’ve started playing the harp at the age of 30 (actually 2 years ago) after 20 years dreaming of it and if I can make progresses, it’s also because there is people like you to prove that there’s not just one way to learn the harp but it’s always possible to reach our dream, no matter how old we are and if we have lessons once a week in music school or if we learn by ourselves. I’m really thankfull for your channel and hope we can communicate in the virtual harp circle as soon as possible! Thank you very much Christy-Lynn!
"Can you tell that I'm excited for you?" :'D so inspiring.
This is a great video Christy. You are so positive and motivating. I started in 2009 at age 51! I thought I would be fabulous by now, but I am not. Unfortunately, due to my work situation at the time and then health problems, I didn't make much progress the first few years. Eventually I became too ill to play at all and was going to give it up. Then last year I decided to give it another go and found a teacher who is extremely patient with my health ups and downs and always encourages me, even if it takes me months to get one tune down. I realize I probably won't achieve any of the dreams I initially had when I started out, but it brings me joy and gives me something to do so I feel like I am productive on some small level. Being chronically ill is very isolating as you have to give up so many things. Playing the harp is wonderful because it is something I can do at my own pace in my own home. I may never be as good as I would like to be, but at least I have goals to work towards!
What a challenging and beautiful story, thank-you for telling me about that. Wow, it sounds like life has taken some rough turns, but I admire your commitment to following the things you love even when it's slow and frustrating at times. The wonderful thing about music is that it doesn't have to be complex to be beautiful and meaningful. Even plucking one or two notes can bring such satisfaction with the lovely tone of the harp. Keep up with reaching for those goals and enjoying the journey. I'm happy to have you watching my videos and commenting too - thank-you! xx
Thank you Christy. We all have our crosses to bear. I was always a very high energy person so it never occurred to me that I would become chronically ill one day. I never had any desire to play the harp as I was busy raising 4 daughters, working, running my own handmade soap business, raising goats and chickens, etc. Then one morning at the end of December 2008, I woke up and for some reason I felt I had to learn to play the harp. I have no idea why as it had never crossed my mind before. Perhaps it was in preparation of what was to come? Who knows? It was the oddest thing. Anyway, I rented a small 27 string harp and off I went. Luckily, I was able to purchase a Triplett Celtic II harp before I had to leave my job in 2014, so I am blessed that I at least have a harp of my own and my husband doesn't mind paying for my harp lessons and my sheet music addiction! LOL!!!
I play guitar.. I love the sound of the harp.. Its so pleasing to the ears.. Its like a combination between a guitar and piano.. Truly a beautiful instrument....😊
Why did this make me cry so much lol. Thank you for encouraging me 💜 I am 27 and been telling myself it’s too late for me since I was 13 🙄
“Maybe it’s not a bad thing, maybe now is the time” thank you thank you thank you i love you
My dad was in his 70’s when he started Banjo and Mandolin. He’s now 81 and plays in jam sessions with others. Not very advanced but he’s happy strumming along and keeping busy💓
Never too late to take up a new interest. I'm 74 and taking harp lessons and loving the sounds of the harp strings, even if it isn't a complete melody. Simple harmonies bring me joy. The right teacher is so important. If you're not enjoying your instrument, get a different teacher. It ought to be joyful and motivating!
I am 73 n thinking of learning the harp from scratch. Appreciate your encouragement. Any other things I should know for person of my age to try learning the harp?😅 Thank you.
@@jonoonist So Iet me join the 70"s cIub. I wiII be 77 in June and I am about to purchase my first harp! I can do this! And so can you!
Thank you for posting this video. You really said some things I needed to hear! Your words are so encouraging x Best wishes to you.
I’m 53 and I tried learning many years ago gave up after a short time due to life changes. The urge never went away so I just bought a Grand Harpsicle and started learning again on Feb 1st when I got my harp. No instructors here where I live so I am really enjoying your videos!❤️😊
This is such an amazing video! You are so encouraging 🥹 thank you! 😇
We need more teachers like you; thank you sooo much for the encouragement & inspiration; you're the best!!!
Thank you so much for your positivity and this video !!
You are so inspirational and warm hearted. Thank you so much for sharing this with us. ❤️
I love how you talk about the harp. 😭💛 This is so inspiring.
Your enthusiasm and well-designed inspirational message is infectious. Good job!
I loooove how encouraging you are, Christy-Lyn! I am 32 and started to practice harp not even a month ago, and I was fortunate enough to find a teacher in my area. Thank you so much for this!
Thank you, Christy-Lynn! Your sincerity and insightful enthusiasm has truly motivated me to humble myself and become a beginner in this new musical venture!
What a great vid., Christy-Lyn!!! "It's never too late", are truly sage words to live by! I started my 'harp journey' when I was 57 and am enjoying every minute of it! If you're determinted and stick to it, you'll do well. Also, for those on a tight budget, rent-to-own is a great option.
You are so amazing Christy-Lyn!!! Thank you for your beautiful words ❤️
Whenever I get discouraged, I come back to this video. You help me to regain my focus and my joy of playing. Thank you!
Thank you for your inspiration. Your smile is contagious thank you for sharing.
I really like you! Thanks for your sharing. You have sent out very positive energy! So encouraging 😊💕
Thankyou this video has given me encouragement .
I really like the positive vibes in this video. It made me feel good and also confident. I am about to take up the harp as my second instrument (piano came first 3 years ago) and I am currently 25, as it happens :D! I am training to be a lawyer but my other dream is to become a music teacher. There are not many teachers around here who teach adults alone and I want to dedicate myself to adult students because I want to make them feel like they are in the right place, at the right age and doing just what they ought to :).
Thanks a lot for this encouraging vidéo! I'm 39 and my dream is becoming reality, somebody gave me a harp and it's more easy to learn than I thought!
You're so sweet. I'm 26 & wish to play the drums & the harp. You've really inspired me. I gave up on drawing but I also really want to push myself. Even if it's only doodles I really enjoy it. 💜✨
Wow this is a really incredible video :) your words have such wide application not just for wanting to play the harp but for anything else in life. Thanks for this! You are absolutely right in that prioritising something that could bring you passion and joy is something we ignore in favour of things that (supposedly) bring stability like a job and buying a house... but those things these days are even less predictable and achievable than our dreams LOL.
You're such a sweet, positive, inspiring young lady. I've always dreamt of playing the harp. Your message just hit me straight in the heart. I took introductory lessons 4 years ago but did not progress. I am now 50 (!) and I believe it is serendipitous that I found your video. You re-awakened my dream.
thank you for the wonderful encouragement. I'm excited to learn harp.
Love your positive energy!
Thank you so much for this inspiring video!
Thank you so much for this beautiful, motivational video!! I tried to learn to play the harp long ago and got dissuaded but now that I'm done with school I'm ready to start chasing my dream again! I'm gonna play this video again if I find myself getting overwhelmed :)
Thank you so much for this! I just put a downpayment on a lovely celtic harpsicle at my local music store (yay layaway!) after having put it off for about 5 years (settling in a new city, starting my business, etc.). I decided to look at a few videos for inspiration before bed and found this one. This what exactly what I needed to hear! Blessings to you. I'm so excited to pay it off completely and bring it home so I can start practicing!
I actually started playing the harp three weeks ago with a rather difficult past concerning learning an instrument. I tried the violin, piano and flute but always stopped after a few months because my expectations were too high and I slowly lost my motivation when realising that playing an instrument takes a lot of time. Now I´m 17 and decided to try it one more time, with the harp, after setting myself realistic goals. This video encouraged me even more and I´m really thankful for that. My L&H Ogden will arrive tomorrow and I think it´s finally the right time for making music instead of just listening to it. Thankyou again ;)
Wow, what a beautiful story!! I'm so glad you're giving yourself another chance. Remember it's not important to be the best harpist in the whole world. It's possible to make beautiful music right from the beginning, so be patient with yourself and enjoy the process :) I'd love to see a photo of you with your new Ogden!! Please pop me an email (address in the video description) - I'd love to hear from you! xx
this video is so inspiring for me =) I'm 28, I learned when I was much younger but only played a couple years and left it for a long time and now years later I feel still like a beginner. Letting myself be a beginner is exactly why I procrastinated for so long on starting playing again, so what you said about that really resonates with me. It used to make me feel embarrassed, but now I feel a childlike joy in taking it slow =)
It's lovely that you make these videos. Your joy is contagious. There is something magical in between the words that you impart to us. Something healing. I have yet to play one note on a harp but I am going to start soon. Thanks for your encouragement.
Wow, Kathryn! That's such an amazing thing to say!! Would you mind if I quote you on that? Please do let me know when you start playing the harp; it's so exciting for me to hear about people starting this journey. All the best!
Yes, Christy-Lyn I would be happy for you to quote me on any publicity you like.
Go for it!......I did and I love it. The harp will bring a lot of joy in your life. I bought a rees harpsicle 26 string and all levers. Walnut or cherry they are both beautiful...I say get what fits you. Enjoy the journey. 😊🙏
Brilliant video! I'm 37 and my first harp just arrived today. So excited to get started!
Just randomly browsing YT for things of interest and stumbled upon your channel.
I must say; the spirit and joie de vivre you exhibit made my life just a tad better. Angels do exist.
Starting again from scratch at 42. Thanks Christy-Lyn xx Amazing video as always!
I'm starting to play the harp and this video really heleped me. Thank you.
My life began in my 40s. Last year I began weekly acrylic painting, became fluent in Spanish, and always dreamed of playing the harp so learned the piano and acoustic guitar as a precursor. Saving now to get a lever harp and lessons by years end. 🌱
You're such a wonderful example for us!!
i love hearing people tell you anythings possible. it infuriates me to no end when music snobs try to convince you that its impossible to play an instrument if you don't practice 24/7 and didn't start straight out of the womb.
So inspiring! I needed the extra encouragement thank you so much for your channel!☮️💜
I started at 17. I was so happy that I found your video because everyone around me told me that it is too late. And seeing you pro who started at 25!? Huge inspiration!
You are so positive thank You! I am 36 will have my first lesson soon. I wanted to play harp since I was 5 years old but on admission exams to professional music academy they told me to my parents that I have hands for piano so I wasted many years doing something I hate and quiting afterwards... Now it's the time! thank You so much for this warm positivity❤️
I love the sound of the harp! I've always been a vocalist and songwriter but never played an instrument short of learning a chord on guitar around 18 yrs of age. I never had a desire to learn an instrument and currently work with produced music for songs I release professionally as an artist. But the harp. Grips me. I'd love to learn to play and it's never too late to do things you love or explore new avenues of things you're interested in! The only thing holding me back is affording an instrument!
I have been wanting to learn Harp and this year I will finally able to start .. at the age of 50. I am very excited and thank you so much for your videos.
“A dream that is worth prioritising”, wow, that is genuinely good advice!
Thank you for motivation!
I started at 39....I am a beginner harpist. Your video inspired me to get a 26 sting walnut rees harp. Love your videos.🙏😊💓
Thanks Christie, I’m 40 with no music experience.... and have just bought myself a Harp today...!!! Ahhhh... 🤩🥳🤩
Beautiful words.... thanks so much, your passion is inspiring and encouraging,
and you have a very incredible smile 😃
U r so motivating ..thnx fr ur kind wrds
This is so encouraging. I first felt in love with harp was 20 years ago when I was seven. I never forgot it, but ever got a chance. I now live in Toronto and I found a good teacher but I am a little hesitate that it might not be the right time to do it now since I am staring my career just now. Your video really make me want to just follow my heart and go for it. Thanks.
Hi there Li! Have you started yet? Sometimes it's a great idea to just follow your heart and do it now. But other times waiting a few months in the wise choice ;) It's up to you! xx
Yes youra very Inspiring young lady and what a gift you have and a soulful way of encouraging others to take that step forward and follow their dream of playing the harp. IM 79 years old and have been playing three Christmas somgs since 1989 and not much else, thanks for sharing your thoughts on this matter.🎶🥑
Your words are so sweet, conforting and motivational. Thank you! I gues I'll start at 22
You are very inspiring indeed, Christy. Thank you so much for your kind words. i just ordered a harp today!
This truly was inspiring for me; I played harp when I was 11-13 years old, but I didn't stick with it. Lately, I've been getting the musical itch again, though, and am starting back up--with Harp a second time, and guitar for the first time! It's been so inspirational looking at all of these amazing musicians who have not been playing since childhood, and KNOWING there is still hope.
Thank you so much for posting this. You're absolutely amazing!
Hi Lily. So good to hear from you! It's wonderful to see what the CZcams harp community does to inspire adult harp learners around the world. I'm so thankful to be a part of that! Have you decided what harp you will buy / rent? And are you planning to take harp lessons? :)
Hi Christy Lynn, This message was very inspiring. I will be getting my Harpsicle harp this coming Monday. I've waited the 8 weeks while they made it. I am getting ready to retire in a couple of years and hope playing the harp will give me something meaningful to do. I enjoy all your CZcams videos and hope that I will be able to make pretty music soon. I would have like to have heard a song on your Harpsicle today. Thanks for sharing your talent so freely with everyone.
Hi Janet, thank-you for the comment! You're right, I should have played a short little piece on my Harpsicle as inspiration but I didn't think of it, silly me!! All the best with your new Harpsicle coming on Monday, that's super exciting!! I'd love to hear how it goes. Are you planning on teaching yourself or do you have a harp teacher near your home? :)
Thank you for this message.
The first time I started playing harp I was 25 years old, too. At the time it felt "too late" to be serious about it, but I was so passionate and obsessed with the harp, I pursued it despite those feelings. I had a wonderful highly trained teacher. I loved it more than I can express.
The problem was, as a pianist, my musical knowledge far surpassed my physical abilities on the harp. And I pushed myself too fast. Practiced for hours every day. And I got seriously and permanently injured. I was devastated.
Over the next 8 years, my injury has flared up any time I have tried to do some gentle practice with "correct" form/technique. I have given up hope, and have been grieving the loss of my dream.
But watching your videos is inspiring me to find a way. Harp is my one true love. Maybe I could modify my LH form, or even arrange certain passages of music to accommodate my limitation. (In a nutshell, I have a restricted ability to raise my left thumb, and pain in my palm if I try to pluck with it at the proper angle).
There are many gifted musicians who played with "incorrect" form for similar reasons... Do you think this is possible for harpists?
If anyone else has read this far, please learn from my mistake. Pursue your dream, but go slow and steady.
Wonderful motivation to all who wish to learn a musical instrument.. It connect me since I pic up my keyboard 🎹 around my 30th age.. Great inspirational talk thanks for motivation. Ur experience joy of music reflect in your words. Stay joyful stay musical..
Omg! I just turned 25 and I was searching videos on starting the harp as an adult. I cried tears of joy when you said “I started at 25.” Can’t wait to start this dream of mine ❤️ The sound of the harp has always been therapeutic to me.
I just turned 65 and only recently became even interested in the harp. Purchased a Harpsicle (I think the one you're holding!) and have had my first 3 lessons. Great "Medicare" project to get my brain to learn a new skill. Because the right hand fingering is "backwards" from piano, it takes a little concentration, but I do see a little progress after each rehearsal. (My left hand is a little slower to learn, but it's coming!) I love your videos!
I enjoy listening your advice. Hope you start a step by step beginners class for us adults. Love the harp so much.
Aw, that’s so lovely to hear! I do plan to make a comprehensive step-by-step online course, but in the meantime, have you seen my playlist of 14 CZcams videos for learning the basics step-by-step? It’s called “How to play the harp for complete beginners” 😃
What a a wonderful video to make, yes it was it was inspiring to see your enthusiasm/passion for the harp ... I don't play the harp and am not really thinking about taking it up (I came here because one of my daughers is interested) But I do I play other instruments and everytihng you said is still great advice, even if you replace "harp" with any other instrument instrument (incl voice). Thanks for sharing :)
Thank you for this video. I started when I was 21 but I found myself learning and improving so quickly because I was/am so passionate, even though I don't have much time. As a "late" learner, I sometimes feel like I'm not good enough, but it's videos like this and the positivity of others that really encourages me to push past slumps. "A dream is worth prioritizing" is such a great piece of advice. I can't imagine my life without harp now and I look forward to more of your videos!
So true. Life is not about comparing ourselves to other people, or even to imagined versions of ourselves. In any case, in many circles you'd be considered an early starter! :)
Christy-Lyn, I am so inspired by your videos! I've played Guitar and Keyboards, love the Hammond Organ, played Mandolin and Violin rather unsuccessfully, but I would love get my hands on a Harp and learn how to play it well. You have inspired me to give it a go! It may take a year after this Pandemic is over, but I will continue to watch your videos until I can get my hands on a nice Harp! Thank You!
You are an awesome teacher, giving clear and slow directions, great "secret" information, lots of cheerful enthusiasm, and the instruction and tips to play correctly and well. I've watched several of your videos, and it makes me want to learn to play harp. Maybe I will.
That's so great to hear!! Do you have any specific plans to start? It's so much fun!! I also send a lot of extra info and encouragement through my email list - are you on there yet? :)
I was thinking that it's already too late cz I'm in my late 20s ... But now I got the inspiration agin from your words... Thanks so much ..
Great video, it's so true! I did not know that about Deborah Henson-Conant. I started at 22, as well!
Ah, that's so awesome Tiffany!! We've got so many years of harp playing ahead of us, I can feel it. Looking forward to continuing the journey with my CZcams friends to encourage and inspire each other along the way
Christy-Lyn - I'm a retired teacher, 50+ years of guitar playing and singing. You have, besides your talent as a Harpist, a gift of public speaking. Your enthusiasm is contagious, and you certainly could give motivational talks to many types of groups, using your love of the harp as a backdrop. I love music and your sharing. Please continue - you have many talents. Thank you for this gift.
Hi Kenokid! Thanks for your very thoughtful comment. It's so encouraging to hear your praise from a teacher's perspective. I'm mostly just enthusiastic and really want to share my love for the harp with others. And I truly do believe it's never too late to learn something new and pursue a dream! Thank-you for your kind words :)
Wow, you inspired me to start right now! Your joyous heart is so inspiring. Thank you for sharing your art and light!
@@LearningtheHarp I reached out to a local harpist in my area who will hopefully be able to guide me in buying my first harp
I’ve loved the sound of these since I was about 7 and want to learn xx
Hello Christy Lynn thank you so much for your encouragement. I am 72!!! Maybe the oldest. Am also a religious Sister. I learned the harp when I was 12 and played til 16. But when I entered the convent I did not have a good harp. I have not played for more than 50 years. I had bad habit of curling. Never taught then right way. I feel like a real beginner. But my teacher is so patient. Now I am learning to do thumbs up finger on the strings. Slowly what I learned as a young girl is now coming back. I love playing now. And thanks for your online harp lessons. I am grateful. Sister Eppie BRASIL, OP from the Philippines.
Just found your videos! You are so inspiring! I'm 22 and starting my first lessons this month!
Love this!! Thank you so much for your encouraging message!
Such a pleasure! I'm glad it was encouraging for you. Do you plan the harp, or are you dreaming of starting? :)
Yes, I really want to be a harpist!! I'm planning on investing in a harpsicle harp soon! :)
I'm loving your videos. I'm from Brazil, I confess: My english is not good, but, my dream is to be a harpist. Here in Brazil, the harp is rare instrument and the harpists too. But, we're trying to change this reality. Thanks for your love and for share what you know. ❤
Thank you so so much!! This really inspired me to start learning how to play the harp as soon as possible. Good luck !
The humility piece got me. We never had enough money to go after non-school based arts hobbies or sports, so I never asked to learn. As a kid I was never good at the instruments that I tried to learn via school, and so as an adult that has me dreading not knowing how to do it! But you're right, learning is enough. Having humility is important. There are so many things in life that are not instant gratification! Thank you for your inspiration. I'll be 30 this year, and I'd love to give it a try. XO - Alexandra
Hi,
I know this video is quite old by now, but just wanted to leave a comment giving my thanks. So far, I've found many of your videos very helpful, and a big part of that has been your positive attitude towards teaching others. I'm turning 30 this year, and the only other instrument I've ever really touched has been the kazoo. Been drawing since I was real little, and still have so much to improve in that area of my life, but I always like to challenge myself with new things. The harp has especially interested me, though, for a few years now and one other youtuber I watch has really inspired me to shoot for my dreams regardless of what they may be, so I figured why not now? Anyway, hope to see more of your videos really soon and to keep practicing.
You are a blessing to me! this video is the hallmark of your presentation... You have encouraged me beyond explanation. I am 50 years old and am just about getting ready to fulfill some dreams i had as a child... mastering the keyboard is one ... and trying something new.... playing the harp...you touched my soul with the way you smile, speak, encourage, uplift...thank you....you are blessed! Thanks for sharing your soul with us!
Hi Michele! What a beautiful, heartfelt comment. Thank-you for sharing your thoughts! I would love to hear how it goes - are you going to start with keyboard first? :)
Thank you for posting this video! I have been trying to convince a few friends that they, too, could learn the harp and this is exactly the kind of thing I keep telling them! I'll definitely share this with them-- hearing it from you might help give them the nudge they need to go for it. :)
Recently I went to hear someone playing the harp in person. It was awesome.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts about this. I really enjoy your videos and I found this one to be quite timely. I am in my 50's and play guitar and a few other instruments including voice, but I finally acquired a Harpsicle last week and took my first lesson on Monday. The day I bought my instrument was the first time I laid hands on a harp. I played some simple songs right there in the store. (Okay, very slowly and with a few mistakes and incorrect hand positioning lol) The day I took my first lesson I got to sample some other quality instruments. Now I know why harpists own more than one! Ah...goals! Anyway, thanks again for your encouragement and for sharing your gifts! 🎵
Oh wow, your first harp!! How exciting. It sounds like you're already enjoying it and progressing beautifully - I hope your harp journey continues to bring joy to your life and the lives of those around you! Thanks for your comment :)
Thanks so much for this video. You convinced me that its not to late to learn;)
I’ve always wanted to learn to play the harp but at 27 I thought I was too old! Thank you for sharing your video as I’m definitely going to go for it now and jump in 💕
Definitely not too old, go for it!!! :D Make sure you watch my video about Where to Start :)
Firstly this is an awesome video because as you know I took up the harp last year several years past 30 so this really made me smile and is hugely inspiring. Secondly I just wanted to say that I feel really sad for you because I thought the arrangement of the song you had for your battle round didn't play to the strengths your classically beautiful angelic voice and you could barely hear your beautiful harp. Please don't be disheartened, you are a wonderful musician and you are a real inspiration to a lot of people, myself included.
Thanks so much, you're so sweet! I appreciate your lovely encouraging words :) The Voice SA was still a wonderful experience, and I hope more South Africans will look up my music online and hear my harp more clearly. I'm so glad I had the opportunity!
I started playing at age 55 so it's never too late.
So good to hear. 53 now and just starting to explore how to do this
Wooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooow
Tootflute029 oh my goodness! Thank you 🙏🏻 you just encouraged me to still learn this wonderful instrument. Thank you! Will start looking for an affordable harp I could use 🙂
Tootflute029 I would like to learn. I’m 58
I’ve just started 4 months ago and I’m 62! Progressing nicely and loving it!😀
