    I'm surprised you didn't mention the Sinjoh Ruins event, where Arceus is literally seen creating a legendary Pokemon Egg, with Cynthia wondering if this has anything to do with the mystery of how Pokemon Eggs appear.
    My theory is that Pokemon can reproduce the same way the species they're based on do. But there's also a second way, for both the Pokemon who can and can't reproduce naturally.
    That second way is Arceus creating an Egg and sending it to the parents, explaining how it pops out of nowhere and how creatures like Kangaskhan can come out of Eggs.
    Arceus is a God, he can put whatever he wants in these Eggs, even if it doesn't make any sense according to the laws of Nature.

    The "add first can't edit later" idea may also explain some other interesting quirks- like Alomomola possibly being a Toedscruel to Luvdisc's Tentacruel, or how Unova may lack fairy type awareness because the 'mons who would be part-Fairy is just one rare-to-find grass line in a dense forest. Maybe in Kanto and some of Johto, abilities are more seen as passive traits and not as active influences. Maybe moves that get retyped are a result of their own form of adaptation, so a proto-Bite or a proto-Sand attack would be more normal. Maybe the durability of TMs in Unova carried on elsewhere, and maybe it's a result of Team Plasma or Team Galactic.

    I really wish trans Marill was still in the games. It would be cool to have trans Pokemon (and humans who aren’t in the background), but who knows if Gamefreak is brave enough.

    i'm a big sun/moon nerd and i've never thought about solgaleo and lunala like this before! i would say though, since cosmog is just a gaseous body, it'd be hard to say it's created by conventional reproduction instead of just a fusion of the 2 legendarys' power, which means maybe they shouldn't require opposite gender, just combined force.
    but i still think it's very cute that every baby cosmog gets the best of both parents :)

    There is that one cutscene where Arceus tears apart the fabric of reality just so you can have an extra Legendary from an egg, so breeding as a mechanic being caused by Arceus isn't too Farfetch'd of an idea

    if Ditto passes on its own genetic material ((it’s own IVs)), then it can’t be a genetic clone of its mate, right? does it maybe alter its genes to be compatible? or maybe its genes are just naturally compatible with every Pokémon? the second answer would make sense, since it’s a failed clone of Mew, ancestor of all Pokémon

    • @lilspeth_
      @lilspeth_ Před rokem +2

      according to the leaf green dex entry for ditto, it is able to copy an opponent's "genetic code."
      so this means one of two things.
      either ditto copies only genes responsible for phenotypical traits, and only appears to be a copy outwardly of a pokemon, whilst internally maintaining its unique genetic code (this would not explain why ditto's own IVs do not affect it's stats when transformed, and the opponent's stats are copied exactly).
      or IVs are wholly unrelated to genes as we understand them. after all, it doesn't make sense that items like destiny knot can affect "how much" genes are passed to an offspring. and, even with a destiny knot, it is entirely possible for a pokemon to be born whilst having inhereted nothing from its father (species from mother, and 5IVs at random coming from mother), which also makes no sense under our understanding of geneology

    • @slurpinpuffs
      @slurpinpuffs Před rokem +1

      @@lilspeth_ hmm, yeah. maybe then IVs are like a secondary set of genes separate from DNA that’s compatible across all species? that affects development and growth specifically, which could explain why Ditto could copy stats of its opponent. since it didn’t develop that body or grow it naturally, just copied its structure, its IVs never affected its development?
      or maybe it’s just magic too idk

    Oh, hey I think something you might have missed. You mentioned the part about how do they fit into pokeballs, but we actually get an answer to that in Legends Arceus! The reason pokemon can fit in tiny balls, and how they are able to hide in tall grass even if they're bigger than that grass? Because they're just able to shrink themselves? They're just able to do that. On their own. Funky! :D

    Actually yeah the whole thing about Volbeat and Illumise being different species reminds me of how for a long time, scientists didn't realize that male and female anglerfish were the same species because they are *so* different. Females are the big ones you think of when you think of "anglerfish" while males are itty bitty little things that basically bite onto a female, merge their circulatory systems with hers, and produce sperm for the rest of their lives. They were like "hm weird we've only ever seen males of species A and females of species B" until they realized "hang on these animals are reproducing with each other and the same clutch of eggs can produce both."

    I gotta say, the state of the biological sciences in pokemon seems like an absolute mess. Most of what people know about pokemon is the equivalent of wikipedia if you didn't need sources and it was mostly run by children.

    Trans Marill is so nice to have, even if it wasn't intentional. As a trans person who is a massive Pokémon fan, it is so wonderful to feel there is some representation in my favorite game.
    Also, if people don't know there is a trans woman in the X/Y games called Beauty Nova. Her quote when you encounter her says she used to be a Karate King/Black Belt which was a trainer class only obtainable as a man. The counterpart for a woman would be a Battle Girl. Also, in the Japanese version after the battle she states that the power of medical science is incredible. Unfortunately, that remark about her transformation is not in the US version as it was censored.
    It's nice to have these little bits of representation, I'm hoping there will be more to come 💙

      Marill isn't trans representation. It changes sex the property that allows it to breed.
