Thanks for posting! I loved this version of the WPIX Mets theme from 2003-2005.
A bit sad to watch the intro with Sean Kimmerling, who passed away a few months later from cancer at a very young age.

At 1:16:04 is a good example of why this was the best version of Andy Pettitte. He goes up the ladder with a 94 mph fastball to strikeout Reyes. Andy use this added velocity to become more of a power pitcher. Particularly in 2003 when he finished 6th in the AL in strikeouts and strikeouts per 9. That was set up by the 1st pitch curveball Pettitte got over and the trademark cutter at 1:14:35 Reyes fouled off his foot. You see he had excellent command on that fastball using it for called strike 3 over the inside corner to both the righty Wiggington at 16:12 and to the lefty Burnitz at 19:06 at 93 mph. He could throw it by hitters in fastball counts such as at 24:45 and that set up the nasty cutter at 27:09 for another swing and a miss. Strikeout ability is a huge advantage in terms of getting out of jams such as after the Alomar double to leadoff the 1st. Along with the strikeout of Reyes to end the 4th you see Pettitte end the 2nd by getting Alomar to chase a high fastball and the 3rd by getting Phillips to chase a cutter at 1:08:24 set up at 1:07:50 by the fastball he fouled off over the plate after Pettitte got the 1st pitch strike at 1:06:17 by getting Phillips to chase another cutter. Traschel actually gave Andy one of the tougher at bats to leadoff the 5th though Andy eventually got him swinging on the curveball at 1:19:27 which Andy usually used to get over for a called strike though he'd occasionally start it lower and use it to get hitters to chase as the one offspeed pitch he still threw during this period as you see at 1:20:33 and 1:21:58 and the call was generous at 1:25:51 but still a nasty curve to Floyd. Ended the 6th with another strikeout after Shinjo missed the cutter at 1:45:25 set up by the fastball he was late on at 1:44:48 and fouled back. Still getting swings and misses on the cutter towards the end of his night in the 7th such as the strikeout of Bell at 2:00:03 which was set up in part by all of the good fastballs early. Pettitte's improved fastball and cutter complemented each other extremely well.

So Sean Kimerling wasn't just a weekend sports anchor, but also covered Mets games on WB11 as well?

This was the Yankees post-dynasty era, when they were really good but not great. They got to the world series and lost in 6 to the Marlins. But when you look at their lineup, which was no where near as good as it was in the 1990s, it is still FAR FAR better than the Yankee lineup of today, the one that is always expected to get to the world series. In 2003, you didn't have .300 hitters, but didn't have .220 hitters either. Thanks for the post.

Well, you can make the argument that 2003 was their final season of their dynasty era, and that 2004 was the new beginning.
But they overachieved in 2004, winning 100 games, and being one game away from making the World Series up 3-0 with 3 outs to go with Mariano on the mound. But the Yankees shouldnt even have made the postseason in 2004

Thank you so much for posting these old Mets games and I really loved the WPIX Mets theme from 2003-2005 as well. If I may make a request, do you have any other Mets Interleague games from that period when they were on WPIX (in particular, June 11th or June 12th, 2005 vs. Angels, June 18th or June 19th 2005 vs. Mariners or May 20th 2005 vs. Yankees)?
