  • For this video, I thought I'd run through some of the various repaints and variants released within the Masters of the Universe Origins line. We've had a lot of them. Are the cheap cash grabs? Let me know your thoughts in the comments! Thanks for watching!

    I totally 1000% agree with there about the Origins line being toys. They're meant to be played with, not just displayed. And I'm not afraid to admit that I still play with my 'adult collection' . That's right. Also. very excited for the new Cartoon Collection line too. That's definitely up my alley

      Glad I'm not alone! The Cartoon collection looks so great! I can't wait to see how many figures get produced. They could expand the line like they did with Classics. It's an exciting time to be a MOTU collector! Thanks for watching video and commenting!

      @@darthsnoogen Yes. That's what I hope the Cartoon Collection will be too, making as many Filmation characters as possible. And you're most welcome too, buddy. Really appreciate what you do. Keep 'em coming

    BTW, Origins Moss Man's (primary/flocked)head sculpt is not a re-use of Origins Beast Man's. The vintage one was but the Origins version is a new sculpt that is recognizable as their shared head ; but used on Moss Man first. Which opens the door for another Beast Man Variant (hopefully with proper feet instead of the no claw/toe sculpt).

      Wow. Thanks. I guess I didn’t really look to close at it. I was so focused on the LOP head sculpt. Also, I’ve never even seen the new Moss Man in person. I’d have better luck spotting Bigfoot than finding it at one of the Walmarts in my area. LOL. Thanks for commenting! I’ll point that out in a future video as Im sure I’ll be discussing it again soon.

    The vintage line started with 4 bodies (human, beast, Demon, and woman) and through the swapping of parts, new heads (sometimes), and different paint aps gave us dozens of figures. I miss the action features for Origins but them being modular instead I think is inspiring the next generation of toy creators by leaning heavily on the concept that awakens the imagination. Mixing something stinky into the plastic and painting it different turned Mer Man into Stinkor. Painting Beast Man green and adding flocking made him Moss Man. Painting Ninjor White and giving him Human feet instead of demon feet made him Slamurai. The only limit to motu is the imagination as we are seeing again with the upcoming walmart exclusive snake men.

    Motu was always repaints and designed as such. I love mix and match so I design new multiverse characters of my design... Currently I'm making a variety of Bird characters to take on Snake Men.

      I wish they’d release some Avion warriors to go with Stratos. I always loved mixing the vintage figures to make strange new characters. While I love that the Origins line has made it easier to do this, I think some fun is lost simply because Mattel did it deliberately. It’s weird, but I found more fun in doing it when it’s wasn’t intended and sometimes difficult. If that makes any sense. Thanks for watching and the comment!

    I personally don't mind the repaints and re-colours, and I feel they get a little too much hate from people. I get some people are keen to only get the figures they grew up with, but I like the fact Origins embraces more than just the vintage line, it includes things from the wider MOTU lore. For example, I'm not a big fan of "jaundice" Evil-Lyn and much prefer the colours on the 200X version as it gives her a more natural, less sickly looking apperance.
    I also personally like it when the re-colours can be used to bring in other characters like Slamurai, The Goddess or Anti Eternia He-Man. Even if they didn't appear in the vintage toy line, they're as much vintage characters to me due to them existing back then in one form or another. I also missed out on regular Trap Jaw and not wanting to drop the stupid amount he was going for (at the time anyway), grabbed the Mini Comic version as the Trap Jaw for my display instead.
    Finally, I also think it works well for the Sun Men characters as, to my understanding, the woman who made them was working out her garage when she first started the line (or something similar) so lacked the flexiblity and options a big company like Mattel would have when designing and making her own toyline.

      @darthsnoogen  Před 6 měsíci

      I couldn’t agree more. Really, the only repaint I just really don’t like is the mini comic Stratos. I like that the line expanding so much but they are some things they completely skipped. The New Adventures of He-Man is a line that would have been fun to get in the origins line. I guess it could still happen, but I’m doubtful. As long as they complete the original line, which they said they would do, i think this could go on for years like Classics.

      @@darthsnoogen I agree. He's one of the few I've been very hestiant to buy. I'd probably only get him if I saw him for real cheap (I live in the UK and MOTU figures aren't really available at retail here, so I'm stuck to just online sellers).
      And I second you about New Adventures. I never watched it as a kid personally, but I've always liked the designs and I like the idea of having as many "factions" as possile. My hope had been to build a "heroic" display with He-Man, The Masters, The Rulers of the Sun and the Galactic Protectors, and a "villainous" one with Skeletor, the Evil Warriors, The Horde, The Snakemen, The Space Mutants and any "one off" villains like Evil Seed or Count Marzo (preferably the 200X versions as I prefer those designs). I know they plan to round out the rest of the vintage line, but I do hope they'll continue to give us "non-vintage" characters as well, like the upcoming exclusive Snakemen figures.

      Yes and it’s worked well for them. As a collector, I feel like they do a good job at giving us something different most of the time that makes it worth while. On the flip side, a company like McFarlane likes to release the variant first, then hit you with the classic versions in the form of Gold Label releases. I’m not a fan of that business model.

    I love fhe Origins line. I think it is my second favorite affer the vintage GI Joe "Real American Hero" line, but I don't collect those. I agree that for me, Origins are great toys and fun to play with, while Masterverse are more like articulated statues. They're fine, but don't inspire me much.
    Like you, I love the colors and creativity of MOTU. My favorite variants are LOP Merman and Beast Man. After them, probably Faker and Eternian Goddess. Anyway, great summary.
    And yes, maybe the variations are a cash grab, but Mattel is in the business of growing shareholder value, not giving fans anything and everything we might imagine.

      @darthsnoogen  Před 8 měsíci +1

      Agreed. Those cash grabs are necessary. I for one, embrace the wacky repaints. I want more. There’s still so many 200x variants they could make!
      Thanks for watching and commenting. I really enjoy hearing others takes on MOTU. There’s a reason it’s been around as long as it has. The creative way it reinvents itself for every generation has been fun to watch.

    Brown Stratos is an army builder. My only gripe is that they didn't do the alternate colors on wings and harness like the vintage line. That requires buying the WWE Mysterio figure, if you can find one that doesn't cost a fortune. Still waiting for more females in the Origins line.

    • @darthsnoogen
      @darthsnoogen  Před 8 měsíci +1

      That Stratos fig should have came with an alternate head with a shielded face. Maybe I’ll try out the Eternian guard helmet. You’re right though. That would be a good army builder. I have the last Mysterio figure but the harness is weird and not like Stratos. They line could definitely use more females. They should have introduced Catra and more of the POP characters. Instead we got Lady Slither, which is super cool, but ridiculously expensive. Thanks for watching! I think I’ll do a video soon mixing up parts to try and improve on the figures I don’t like.

    • @AmbientShades
      @AmbientShades Před 8 měsíci +1

      @@darthsnoogen Good point about the alternate head. I have a 3D printer, I'm going to do some customizing. I'm hoping we'll see more PoP figures down the line, probably once Origins goes MC exclusive as I'm hearing it's going to be come next year. I'd imagine they'll still make some of them available to BBTS and EE. We need Stratos' sister too (or is it his wife?) and Queen Marlena.

    • @darthsnoogen
      @darthsnoogen  Před 8 měsíci

      Stratos had a sister called Hawke. That would be a cool edition to the line. I bet if you search online, there are model heads already created you could 3D print. The Avion guard had helmets like Stratos with goggles, but no beards.
