- New NCAA Serve Speed Record! Keoni Thiim sets the all time fastest serve made in an NCAA match.
This is not an official NCAA record because the NCAA does not require any teams to record serve speed. If someone claims to have a faster serve in an NCAA match, I am happy to review the footage and produce another video covering the true NCAA serve speed record.

Crazy how in college that's a record but when you watch professional leagues 76-80 mph seems to be the average for men of course.
76-80 way above average. There are just more players who can do it
@@gd_godmarc8027yeah definitely well above the average, it just seems common because of the amount of players which pull it off. It’s important to consider that the speed of a serve is never shown if it isn’t an ace, and the majority of rally-starting topspinners are around 105km/h

Gabi Garcia, TJ defalco, Nikolov, just to name a few that served this speed and consistently.
Maybe Gabi…he hit one of the heaviest serves you’ll ever see in college vb. Micah had a bigger serve than TJ though and it was rare for him to get over 70 mph

I believe the WR is 134 km/hr (83.2 ish)held by both Wilfrefo Leon(Cuba) and Ivan Zaytzev(Italy) Grozer(Germany) also have one around 132(82mph). These are official that I've seen on CZcams

Still have never seen anyone serve the way one of my high school coaches served. He would serve the ball by putting English on it so it would be just like a curve ball in baseball and cut drastically. It had a really high velocity too. It was very hard to return. He never played professionally or anything. The ball would come in hooking so bad it would be hard to return it, sometimes you wouldn't even know which direction it was going until it was too late.
They call it a topspin serve with a tail on it

I'm pretty sure Gabi Garcia Fernandez for BYU was serving harder a few years ago. I was at the Hawaii Vs. BYU game at Hawaii when he hung 8 aces on the home team in 3 sets.
I watched several of Gabi's matches against Hawaii. While he was serving mid 70s regularly, 76 mph was the highest confirmed speed I could find. If more teams tracked it, I'm sure he would have the record.
I remember that match. Hawaii had no answer at the time, and really had to work hard to win 3-2 the next match. Unfortunate Covid cancelled that season for BYU- they just moved to #1

I watched a bunch of his matches and I never heard of a confirmed serve above 76. Most teams/gyms don't even have speed guns.

Yes, Gabi Garcia Fernandez from BYU. He had more serving aces than errors.
The difference between him and Thimm is Thimm is inconsistent. Any ace he scores more often than not is then given back to the other team in the form of a service error.
Although he has improved his serving this year.
Yes, in USports in Canada there are a bunch of guys hitting around that Velocity! I can confirm Jordan Canham has served 125km/h (77.7mph) in a game.

I looked for faster serves. I found some that were comparable, but they either didn't speed gun it or the speed gun didn't register.
Gabi from BYU has also served 76 mph, confirmed by speed gun. Thiim and Gabi hold the record... as far as I'm concerned.
A Guy from the university of Alberta hit 126 kph.
UA isn’t NCAA, but that’s very impressive. They’re saying it’s an NCAA record
126kph is around 78mph which isn't that different from the 76mph in this video

Keoni is in college and he's serving just a few mph below the world record. Its amazing and the people who say, "But its not a world record" can all run 4 laps.

Only a few teams even measure it and they have only been doing it for a couple years, so if the internet can't produce evidence of a faster serve, then 76 mph is a record and its hard to argue otherwise.
