I know I was born in the wrong decade for music cause most of this new stuff called music just doesn’t capture my attention but the old skool music is more my speed.
A lifetime of musical and vocal awareness and talent flower here in her mature years to deliver a masterpiece in the lilting classic tune "I'm in the Mood for Love."
Carmen seemed to love Tokyo--everything I've heard her do from there has been particularly strong. She's just amazing--this recording is only four years before her death and it's more controlled with greater musicality than ever. The confidence and clarity seem to go first with old singers--but not for McRae. For Carmen it always appeared easy and effortless (and that defines a true professional.)
Carmen MCrae and Shirley Horn r my 2 favorite female jazz voices. I was privileged to c Ms Horn at The Four Queens in Las Vegas. I never saw Carmen MCrae. I am happy youtube has provided a glimpse of this amazing singer. Yes, all the greats are gone. Thankfully, they are not forgotten.
