    Exactly the video I needed, thank you! For example, I've been trying to do the assymetrical thing so your tips about it are super useful. I might also try the large frame with a tiny image idea, and also mix and match frames. Fun fun fun!

    Going back to the off-kilter look. Picture off-center in the kitchen. I like it. Also, cool idea with picture being hung on the bookcase. Unexpected.. Love that too.

    Love your videos. Precise and to the point. Easy to apply no matter what the budget. I am an artist so here is my advise about matting and framing : Oils and Acrylics on canvas do not have to be Matted or Framed ( although fa frame around the canvas is quite fine.) because the work is permanent after it dries. Watercolors , pencil , reproductions/ prints , photos etc are not so permanent. They need to be matted and framed. Its not just for looks. The mat acts as a buffer between the image and the glass. Therefor moisture in the air will not ruin you art or cause it to buckle. Especially in the Kitchen and Bathroom. Just a rule of thumb - Artwork/ Photos should not touch the glass .

    I’m a minimalist, so displaying art is vitally important to warm up a room. I purchase prints of art I love, like John Singer Sargent’s “Lady Agnew of Lochnaw” and “Fumée d'ambre gris”, get them as canvas rather than posters, and frame them appropriately. I usually go to Michael’s when their frames are 70-80% off. For $180 ($80 for the canvas print, $100 for the frame), I have a gorgeous piece of art to enjoy.

    You're really shining lately! You pick amazing examples and don't just gloss over them. (It doesn't hurt that my style seems to match yours--I don't think there's a single photo I wouldn't have picked and would stop to study.) Well done, keep it up! Love the mild music, your enunciation, and the restraint in editing. You're very watchable AND know your stuff. You have much to offer... I'm going to go back and make sure I haven't missed watching and liking your previous content. Please keep teaching us principles, and please resist following the latest trendy topics others seem to all jump on. We need TIMELESS info on design principles! p.s. Where in Canada are you based?

    I loved the video and I agree with all the tips apart from tip #1. Crafts, designs or objects we happen to love are not real art. I love homes where people display real/original art expressing feelings emotions and ideas, telling the story of the tenents. I don't know how to explain it better, English is not my language. It doesn't need to be expensive pieces or the artist to be famous. There are so many young artists from around the globe on the internet.

    • @Designchickee
      @Designchickee  Před 3 lety +1

Horizontal isn't to code although I like the look and it's pretty trendy We can't decide on glass or iron or even in Iron which look would go with the rest of the house. When you hang art in a bedroom on a bare wall do you center on the wall without consideration to the furniture on the side wall. In my case the bed with a night table are on one wall. So do you center from the front of the night stand and the corner or just on the bare wall?

    Hi Olga. I recently found you and have subscribed for your videos. I really like your clear, straightforward approach, and that you provide lots of education and suggestions!!!
    In this video on Styling Your Home With Art, I particularly liked the section on placing art in unexpected places. There is something fresh about that. Just to add to your great ideas, I have a canvas on a door at the end of a short hall and also in my laundry room to hide the ugly water taps on the wall above the washer.
    ... I am also thinking of placing 2 small arts on the wall just above my dog's water and food bowls. How crazy is that? :)

    In your professional experience, what do you do in places where it is a large wall, but it is impractical to have a peice of furniture below the art on the wall? For example, I have a narrow entrance with a large blank wall and would like to hang a peice of art, but a credenza below it would stick out and constantly be bumped into. Who wants to enter a home and bump into a credenza? Not me. But I would like a piece of art.

    • @Designchickee
      @Designchickee  Před rokem

      Great question... If there's no room for a credenza then art is a must! Just place the art using the rule mentioned here (no furniture underneath) in this video: czcams.com/video/8u2_4sI0eZ4/video.html. It's right around the 3:21 timestamp. Thanks for the question! And good luck!
