Dear consumers, is anyone aware that the hawker is using a plastic paint container to keep his dough mixture which he actively uses to fry them? The other day I saw in KL a hawker who used a similar paint container to keep water used for his broth. I wonder if Malaysia's health enforcement officers spend more of their time playing with their mobile phones and will only start an investigation when someone dies?

Penang food anytime better la! Can't wait to get there again. I always eat around there, Kimberly at night. CKT, duck kuey chap, tong sui, YTF, even the simple fried beehoon also very nice!

I’m making my first ever trip to Penang shortly. videos like this are helpful for helping me plan my targets ;-D
are there any specific dishes /places you thought outclassed the Singapore equivalent?

Was in Penang for 8 days in August... everything is so dang cheap even by Singapore standards. Hotels/lodging are 3 to 4 times cheaper than Singapore.
In terms of flavor one shouldn't expect the food to taste the same between the two localities. For example curry mee in Penang is generally referred to as laksa in Singapore. While Penang's asam laksa isn't quite the same as Katong laksa. And hokkien mee generally means prawn soup noodles, not the wok fried type. And so on...

Yeah.. grab from the airport to town was RM23.. compared to my SGD$40 grab to airport. Hotels around town are also quite affordable

Malay street food looks so good!!!
And similar to Singapore too. Piggy is living large travelling places 😂

Penang looks so untouched.. heaps of century old shop houses and street food out on the roads.. worth a visit bro 😎

Lucky all the bowls are mid sized. 😄 Visited KL 3yrs ago, Penang seem to surpass it as a food destination. Hokkien spoken understood intermittently, wondering which locality it's from? Am looking forward to more posts.

Penang has always been the foodie capital of Malaysia 🇲🇾 you’ve gotta visit it sometime.. the Hokkien spoken is Penang Hokkien.. it’s quite uniquely Penang.. very different from that in Singapore. Many Singaporeans describe Penang Hokkien to be like singing out a sentence. It’s also got lots of Malay words mixed into it 😅

I'm impressed you can more or less communicate with their local hokkien accent😁

As always Piggy, foodporn at its best but with the human side of the hawkers thrown in to give it substance and meaning.
Tangentially however, it occurred to me to ask, 'do you cook yourself mate?' I know many Singaporeans don't. Like, why would you when the food out in the street is twice as good and half the price of what ever you could knock up yourself.
Oh, and did you try Il Bácaro at Campbell House? I'm staying there in February at thought one night at the House restaurant might be fun.

How many days you gonna be in Penang Mark? If you wanna feel what the original street food is like in Singapore.. Penang is it! Many stalls are now in their 3rd or 4th generation owners with their ancestors peddling the streets in weaved baskets and a bamboo pole. I just met a young New Zealander chap and he loved it in Penang. Said accom and transport is cheap and food is an adventure.

We don’t actually eat out with every meal.. maybe only during the weekends. And most of us don’t travel out far to hawkers from other suburbs.. it’s usually just the same neighbourhood hawker all the time.

Haha.. just realised Campbell house is just a block away from where I stayed. Bacaro definitely looks good. It can be quite exhausting walking about the whole day and I would definitely pamper myself and dine there and have some wine in the evening. Try it! Enjoy 😉

@@Piggypuggy I've got five nights in Penang with an evening flight out on the last day, Piggy. The Penang food scene looks a lot like Singapore in the 1970s only with hipster coffee shops and some good global food. I figure I will just wander out each morning and graze, take a nap mid afternoon, and then repeat of an evening. Any highlights you can recommend? I learn a lot from your videos and really appreciate your thoughtful and considered representation of whats happen right now.
Oh, and did you try the funicular railway? I thought it might be fun but not if the queue is three hours long.

    • @Piggypuggy
      @Piggypuggy  Před rokem

@@markjones2781 yeah.. it’s meant to be enjoyed at a slow pace.. over dose of iced coffee while soaking in the chaotic market and street food nuances.. an afternoon nap to digest all the breakfast would be a perfect idea. Or a massage if you’re not too full. As for the funicular rail.. I think there’s a fast pass to skip the line. Though expensive for foreigners.. I think it’s still an experience.. have afternoon tea at the old hotel up there whilst overlooking George Town. If not.. there’s always the air itam market nearby.. 5min taxi from the rail.. there you will find.. the infamous Penang Laksa.. but I usually go for char Koay teow with extra eggs 🥚 or curry mee.. (pronounced as Kaallii meeee) ditch the blood curd if it’s not your thing

It’s different.. like a hybrid of mee Hoon kway and kway teow.. but it goes down so easily.. or maybe I just gobbled down coz everything mixed together was just yummy 😋
