    Hey guys, really nice work there on the edit and the video in general, really. I like your Videos and the vibe. I'm just wondering for how long did you stay on Sicily? Because I can't get my head around the fact, that so many climbers and so called nature enthusiasts or lovers or whatever, don't seem to care about nature at all. They fly around the globe for just a week of bouldering and don't even talk about the bad impact all that flying (or consume in general, because that what this is. Consuming) has on the nature ergo on the sport we all love so much. It seems to be a common problem around the Boulder Vloggers and the professionals. I get it. They have to push the Sport to the next level, this is only possible while establishing new areas and crags around the world, participating on Worldcups, and so on. But don't you and your fellow CZcamsrs have a certain responsibility in educating your followers, since the sport we are doing depends on a healthy nature? At least talk about in the videos and point out, that flying should be well considered. Is it really necessary to fly from London to Paris for a few days of Bouldering? And please correct me if I'm doing you wrong and there are actually Videos or statements concerning all the above. But all I have ever seen are Videos from your (or other CZcamsrs) awesome climbing trips, which really look awesome. But is it worth it? With all the hype around climbing and bouldering, there are so many new people introduced to the sport, so many without any sensitiveness on how fragile the ecosystem is. People without a background in nature at all. They don't care about it in the first place. It should be established climbers, people with kind of fame, that tell those people "dude. WTF? You really need that new climbing trousers from 200$ or does a good old sweatpants do the job? Do you really need to fly here and there for a couple of days of climbing? Try a local crag instead. If you need to fly, do it once a year and stay for a reasonable amount of time. Pay for a co2 compensation on your flight." You know? Stuff like that.
    In making bouldering accessible to the mainstream with your videos, I think channels like yours have the urgent responsibility to be a good rolemodel, you know? All those newbies and kids look up to you, want to have awesome trips like you. I just think it is soooo so odd how little talk there is about such an important topic in a community, wich is directly affected by the consequences of treating their playground, the nature which they love sooo much, so bad.
    Sorry for the long comment. That was just something that came to my mind since an other video from you, I think the one from copenhagen.
    Keep the good work up guys, just try to reduce your ecological footprint maybe ;-)

    • @emanpunts
      @emanpunts Před 4 lety

      I thought they took the train there at the beginning?

    • @mariow731
      @mariow731 Před 4 lety

      @@emanpunts Yeah, they took the train. But I think it was just for meeting Marco and afterwards heading to the airport or something like that? It's like a whole day and some hours from London (thats where they at in the beginning right? Yonder Bouldering Gym?) to Sicily by train. By watching previous episodes, I honestly doubt they did that. And again, this isn't just about Bouldering Bobat. They all seem to be lovely people. This is about all the CZcamsrs that are seen by so many people, by people who maybe aren't well educated on that topic or just don't care any way, and get kind of permission from there idols. I always thought, if you are doing sports with or in the nature, you automatically care about it, as well. That you are sensitized (by nature, haha) for the well being of it. That you stop buying shit you don't need, live frugal. I wish some big players like Daniel Woods, Nalle Hukkataival, Adam Ondra and so on, you name them, would just stop flying for a year or so. As a statement or something. Did anyone ever do something like this? Someone who actually has an impact on the community? I think thats what I'm trying to say with way to many words ;-) :
      I wish there would be at least some statements. Some educating words, maybe a whole episode about it. Some impuls to get the people think about their behavior. Some self reflection.
      I think with being a climber comes a great responsibility. No matter wich style, Trad, Sport, Bouldering, hell even Speed. And no matter wich grade you climb, you should always be concerned about the planet. You are doing sports in the nature? Go ahead and treat it well then! You don't care about outside activities? Treat it well anyway!

    • @eS-ql7vm
      @eS-ql7vm Před 4 lety +1

      Marius Mettmann how does that tired quote incorrectly attributed to Gandhi go? “Be the change..?” Just because you’re using compassionate language doesn’t mean you aren’t trying to shame people into adhering to your religious beliefs (such as, “the ecosystem is fragile.”). Please keep that out of the science surrounding the climate.
      You can use your platforms to share and espouse your views; that’s your duty. But it isn’t your moral responsibility to finger wag.
      I appreciate your vocabulary and passive attitude, and I feel like a climate change lecture is a little self indulgent and misplaced in a CZcams video of some friends climbing, even though you are relating your beliefs to the content.
      Cheers.

    • @eriksteen2900
      @eriksteen2900 Před 4 lety +1

      You can have this or that belief about what fellow humans should do and how it impacts the environment, but it doesn't relate to a negative impact on climbing rocks... Rocks don't care how much CO2 is in the atmosphere. You could have air so toxic we couldn't breathe, and there would still be plenty of rocks to climb. If you were talking about fishing or something, it might be a better argument.

    • @user-uw2sz2jc9h
      @user-uw2sz2jc9h Před 4 lety

      @@eriksteen2900 Sorry, your comment is reckless and ill-informed.
      For one, CO2 is not the only pollutant relevant here; For example, NO3 (nitrate free radical) and SO2 (sulfur dioxide) are both compounds that enter the atmosphere as products of fossil fuel burning. Here they undergo various mechanisms to produce both HNO3 (nitric acid) and H2SO4 (sulfuric acid).
      These acids descend with rain (hence acid-rain), and can erode various rocks, such as limestone and sandstone (both used for climbing).
      Secondly, you're wrong, CO2 itself DOES lead to rock erosion. Atmospheric CO2 is dissolved in water to yield H2CO3 (carbonic acid), which similarly falls with rain and can erode limestone.
