I'm a bit disappointed that Matt isn't in the final two. I felt his answers were extremely mature and honest in comparison to the other three finalists and his ability is second to none. Had high hopes for Reece as well but his interview let him down, he definitely needs to build his confidence up a tad and be sure of what he can offer as he seems very low on self-esteem and doesn't sell himself well enough. On the pitch however I feel as if he has more to offer than Jake.
Hopefully all four can be part of the team and offer some of their brilliance. Can't wait for the final. #JoniForTheWin

@@luketaylor1305 Reece didn't say what Devs wanted to hear. I think the lad is humble but has not yet grown into himself to have assertion behind what he says. He negotiates with himself to try and give the best possible answer while weighing intrinsic motivations and external stimuli/conditions. Basically, what I am trying to say is Reece negotiates his answers whereas Matt gave answers he thought they'd love to hear.

True but it's really Devs fault hes not as good as I thought. He needs to be realistic if they don't win and they get other offers of course they might consider it what's wrong with that. Be realistic Devs. And the one with Woodbridge about walking away from a fan can we not have a bit of a character now. You can quite easily teach him what to do in them situations. If it was up to me it would easily be Joni Vukaj and Woolbridge to go through but it's been written in the books from the start for Jake to win.

He screwed himself with the answer in his interview regarding the fan encounter. Hashtag is bigger than what happens on the football pitch, it's all about the fans and social interaction, and for him to casually say he didn't care about interacting with the fan during that encounter means he would be difficult to carry through to the final as it's not a good look for the club at all. Top player, but you need more than just footballing ability to be a major piece of the Hashtag puzzle.

@@anthonymcdonald5535 The whole point of the interview process was to gauge the character and to see if they're the right fit for the club. Using the club as a stepping stone isnt exactly a bad thing, exactly like we saw with Scott Pollock who went onto bigger and better things in a football league side. Straight up telling the chairman and manager of the club that you'd ignore the fans when the entire club revolves around fan presence on social media is downright dumb, he sealed his own fate the moment he said it and you could see Devs' reaction immediately

And then there were two! Very interesting reading your comments. Piece of advice: remember as fans you never have the complete full picture, no matter how hard we try and give it to you. Even those of you who follow religiously (which we love) don’t yet know the makeup of our squad for next season. Don’t assume everyone that finished the season with us will be with us next year. So only Devs knows what positions he needs and doesn’t need 👍🏻
If you want a fuller picture, I’d recommend you become a member and you will see more minutes and see content earlier which will make you more informed. We will record a sit down chat squad update video with the gaffer soon.

Those interviews were really well done and it was refreshing to really get to know each one of the final 4. Based on what I saw:
Jake: Absolutely in love with the club and very confident about why he wanted to play for Hashtag. Has consistently improved through the competition and really showed a lot of heart by saying he would move just to accommodate the club which is exactly what you want in a team player who is willing to give a full commitment. You can't ask any more of a lad who exudes chemistry on and off the pitch.
Joni: Knows exactly what he wants, why he wants it and how he would like to get it done. When he said he was a leader, I agree he has an alpha personality and can translate very well on the pitch from the position he plays in. This really showed because to me he was honest with his answers and was genuine in giving good reasons why he wanted to be on Hashtag even if it would be for one season. I wouldn't be surprised though if he stayed in England, I think he is a diamond in the rough and can move up to tougher competition in higher leagues the more he improves and shows with the team.
Matt: Great adapter on the pitch and also a professional off the pitch. It was concerning regarding his answer of the fan scenario question which showed a little lack of awareness on his part on the extension of how far of a reach Hashtag goes when it comes to interacting with fans and the expectations that come along with it. Hashtag is one of the more unusual non-league clubs because of its large reach and online presence compared to others and players and personnel have to adapt to having a spotlight shine on you at most times. I feel as a player he is brilliant and can be a good signing in the future and can certainly improve (barring injury).
Reese: He had mentioned that confidence is what he lacked and in some ways his answers reflected that. He seemed rather nervous and was shaky at times with his responses. I am not sure how much adversity he has had while trying to stick with a team and working his way up, but it seemed like quite a bit, which is why I felt he said he would "consider" in order to keep all his options open. I do like the fact that he holds himself to a high standard, but I was hoping for more of a response on how he can improve to keep consistent since that was a criticism past coaches had of him according to what Devs had said (I could have misheard, so correct me if I'm wrong). In the end though, he should hold his head up high despite feeling he didn't have enough opportunity. He has the skills, he just needs the mentality of getting that confidence in order and he will be an outstanding player.
    Great job all and
    In Devs We Trust!!!

I think, all things considered, all four of them had drawbacks to their answers. However, I would have put Jake and Reece through if we are basing it off of the interviews. When you consider their footballing ability as it is now, I think Matt and whoever else would have been ideal. However, From their answers here, a couple of things support my final decision.
Jake - Determined to play for # ( The hungriest of the bunch) and has the skill. Feels like the right fit for # maybe cause he reminds me of scotty P. Also, has it in his locker to produce those wonder moments which is great for the youtube side of #'s football
Reece - The most self-aware and introspective of the bunch (great quality that means he is coachable) & has skill but more so raw potential ( he has the highest developmental ceiling and understands what is needed for diplomacy in relations between himself, the team, fans, and coach.
Matt - Most developed player for me and has versatile experience. However, has the star mentality in glimpses (which can be good as it translates well to confidence but doesn't seem right for # for where they are). Feels like he is developed to the point where he may benefit from playing footy in 1 or 2 levels above where hashtag are atm.
Joni - The most laser-focused on career development (great professional quality), he is a steady player. However, it feels like the ROI on him may very well be short-lived so IMO he should play professionally elsewhere.

@Nemi Adoki Why do you think Joni’s ROI would be short lived if he’s a steady player?

    • @Nemz
      @Nemz Před 3 lety

@@aaronmatomisa4419 He is laser-focused on career development (as he should). If he performs outstanding for even a year in # and he get's noticed, he is gone. Players like him should look to break into a more developed setting with player contracts and all that jazz.
For the very reason that he is a good player means # are potentially in a mutually beneficial relationship on paper, that may end up being imbalanced irl in the sense that, #'s return on investment as any other club is highest when a great player is found and is of service to the club for multiple years, whereas for a player like Joni who is looking to rise through the ranks quickly, his ROI can be achieved in a shorter amount of time which is as he kinda described - use footage and exposure of # to get seen by clubs where he wants to be. If it works out and they come knocking within 6 months, he is not the type of player to stay because of sentiments like loyalty. He will kick on thus cutting #'s ROI harvest short.

    Tough Decisions!
I think that it should've been Wooldridge and Lindsey, only because you're looking for something long term and the winner is a face of Hashtag.
Wooldridge can be taught how to deal with added media, so I don't hold so much against him.
If Vukaj plays for Hashtag for a year and then leaves abroad, I'm sure he'll put his heart and soul into his time here, but I don't think that's deserving of the academy winner. He does, though, look great at CDM. I like seeing where the four boys fit into the team. Unfortunately for Lindsey, I think he'd actually make a really great super-sub. He and Osude would be a nightmare pair come the 80th minute and are bombing the wings against tired legs.
I don't see how they unseat the starters at this point, but I'm sure their commitment will be tested as they work more regularly into the team. It would be good to see the depth chart of all our players at this point. They are all quality but I think will have different values to Hashtag depending on context of our first team.
Great job, Hashtag media team, this is a production--thoroughly entertaining, and is clear you guys are doing great work. Keep it up, I look forward to the final.

Wow Devs got some juicy questions! Regarding putting the players on the spot about how they want to use the club - You could see it as the players seeing the club as a stepping stone for their careers, but perhaps on the flip ,these players are okay being a stepping stone for the club and its great long-term vision. Spence said it perfectly about getting a good year out of a player - Having your name being part of the early days climbing up the pyramid is also such an honour that can never be stripped away! :D
