Since people seem to be confused; in the beginning he puckers his lips up to kiss her but she says "Don't try to grow up yet." Obviously she knows what he wants but sees him as a younger sibling. So he creates this other Gary, an adult, but as a child he doesn't understand that a relationship isn't all about the physical. In the end seeing her fighting and saying "No let me go!" he fights against his urges in order to save her because he realizes that she cares for him just as he is.
i think i saw someone say it was about how, when men grow up, they lose the respect and genuine love they had for their crush because of the influence of society. they still have that child in them that wants to treat their love right but they push that down.
I think its better to say that lust consumed him, and he had to fight his way out, back to find his old affectionate self, that genuinly sought love, but then again, maybe what he sought was the idea of beauty, which he saw when staring at girl, because lets be honest its not like he stared at her face.. And perhaps the point was that one quickly grows up, and the lustful desires can consume one so what you once were is gone, buried under a sea of desire. Saying that you are a child, idealizing adults, the suddenly time passes and you are an adult, now getting used to the new you, you can take part in things you idealized so much. but those things dont seem to be what you expected them being, and you lose yourself in the act.
What a beautiful and creative way to express the inner child in all of us. A visual representation of that sweet innocent voice in heads that gives us hope in our dark hours. I strongly agree with the first comment (:
Boy's develop a crush on older girls and think of holding their hand or doing what's romantic on tv. But they have to wait until they get older to be with the older girls. Somewhere the innocence is lost, once caring boys are now the disrespectful men. Inside the protector and romantic is buried in dark hate and rejection. The boy defeats the man he may become by facing the problem directly and being brave. A vow to not be a monster some boys grow to be.
It's so sad when kids, especially at THAT young of an age, know how to be proper gentlemen; yet at that young of an age they can't do anything with it. Then you take a look at the young adults who try to force themselves on women and men alike. Think about that for a while.
I speak some French. Seems that after he draws himself as a grown up, he is still an immature child, he's having to learn about self control and respecting a girls right to say no. That there is more to a relationship than sexual act. Love, Amour, has to grow first.
A simple crush can turn into lust, even at a young age. He wanted to be older so he could show his affection for her. But, the older version, his desire, took control and swallowed him up, and in turn taking control over everything, including the girl he had a crush on. He saw that his desire, even when first appearing innocent, had to he controlled. He saw the brutal truth of what uncontrolled desire could do, and luckily, he hated it. He chose then and there to break free from his lust and just be a boy again. The story isn't really about anyone in particular, or a struggle that only men deal with. It's about a choice we all have, to do the right thing. We have to tame our desire, or it will swallow us alive.
Guardish Well, the girl tells him not to try to grow up too fast... then the boy says 'Shit!' when his drawing does'nt come to life instantly... then when the grown-up Gary is going too far with the girl, she says (literally) 'Leave me' which would mean simply 'stop it!'. It's the film-language that tells the most though, as the guy that posted the comment originally beautifully made clear :).
Sweet animation, though i never understood this fascination with pairing young boys with teen girls. I find it creepy, and if the genders were swapped, it would be considered unacceptable.
You must be a female right? You wouldn't understand. When I was a little boy, pretty much I fantasized alot hugging, kissing and pretty much being together with all those teenager or adult women i had crushes on TV, not the girl same as my age that I saw at playground. And I dont think I was the only boy with these imaginations haha. It's all part of growing up, and learning to know yourself.
blooduhz yes! But i understand it! It is just my frend, she just sayd nasty, im from Norway, and my frend too! She are little wierd in shes head!!! Lol
blooduhz it's not just a guy thing. most girls i know including myself have fantasized about hot older men and ahem started touching themselves from an early age. I was about nine. That doesn't mean that the teenager should want to be with the kid though. That's what's creepy.
I'm guessing there the same age, he wanted to be the "man of her dreams" but his temptations got the best of him. He realities is than she loves him for him not his muscles. Great story.
Mhhh not quite. She tells him to 'do not try to grow to fast". So the girl is a little older than Gary. But Gary says "you'll see, I'll grow in one go" (I'm super roughtly translating sorry). Then he draws himself as a grown man... And you saw the film anyway ^_^
omg. this was so pretty. i love the art. And you know its realy good when you can understand the story simply through the animation- you don't even have to know french to get it. great job, it's really inspiring.
well I for one don't speak french, so I can only hazzard a guess at the message. I would but my guess is correct, but there might be some detail I'm missing, that was spoken, that changes the context of everything.
I love the style and the animation is so beautiful. I think what I get from this is that the boy lost who he is and got swallowed by the 'bigger man' the moment lust took over. His pure love was almost devoured by the monster lust, but he won over it in the end.
This shows us that we need to be humble with the things we have, and even though we cant get the girl (thats obvious in this case), that you should be happy for the love she does give you in freindship,
"Don't grow up too quickly, Gary" "Stop, I don't want to, let go of me" the girl says to the drawn Gary and "You're going too fast, stop !" is what the little Gary tells the drawing.
Sadly I have no clue what the characters said in the dialogue but I got the gist of the plot. I found this animation beautiful with unique storyboard and characters. The lighting and shading is perfect along with having good line and color. I really enjoyed this animation and I really hope you make more.
Murphy B. If I am not mistaken the girl tells the boy first not to grow up to fast then later on in the boy's mind the girl is struggling saying '' No don't don't do that'' stop'' when the Man in the boy's mind forces himself on her.
To all those worrying that they don't speak french, you really don't need to know it to watch this. I just REALLY hope that wasn't the boy's sister, besides that it was a very cute animation :)
Why are peple calling this the weird part of youtube and saying they need translation? I understood every bit and I don't speak French. The story made perfect sense and was quite good. Haven't you guys watched animation before? It's not supposed to be a precise depiction of reality, that's the whole point, it's imaginative! You guys are the ones who are weird!
i think its also about the innocence of youthful love and the absence of sexual motives, where just kissing that special person and being with them in that way is so exhilarating and wonderful...
"Don't grow up too fast Gary" "O yeah? We'll see if I don't grow up" "Come on, come on" "Shit" "Come see" "No stop, no let go of me" "Valentine! Let her go, let her go!"
Lust and desire can cause us to lose sight of ourselves, and create a monster that will devour us. When we've gone too far, we'll realize what we've done, and it is our choice to destroy the monster we created. Slow and easy wins that race boys! Head on shoulder is a start :]

wow I agree with that
but... that's his sister
makes alot of sense

+Spatiality Girls, of course, remain sugar and spice and everything nice forever.
I guess the moral of the story is not to use black magic to bring your drawings to life.
true
Yep
It's so sad when kids, especially at THAT young of an age, know how to be proper gentlemen; yet at that young of an age they can't do anything with it. Then you take a look at the young adults who try to force themselves on women and men alike. Think about that for a while.
Jeah, puberty ruins the life for all of us...
Not everyone is like that you know.
More than 75% of people on this earth are actually nice, and decent.
Kira Simion 25% People are mean?
I said more than 75%, that can also include the extra 25. ;)
:B 100%
I speak some French. Seems that after he draws himself as a grown up, he is still an immature child, he's having to learn about self control and respecting a girls right to say no. That there is more to a relationship than sexual act. Love, Amour, has to grow first.
nice way of putting it...

I love the beautiful way you worded that.
That was beautiful. Honestly, won't find a better wording than you did it in. :)
SmoshOfy Thank you for explaining this film. I was having a really hard time understanding it. I sure it helps if you know french, right?
Guardish Well, the girl tells him not to try to grow up too fast... then the boy says 'Shit!' when his drawing does'nt come to life instantly... then when the grown-up Gary is going too far with the girl, she says (literally) 'Leave me' which would mean simply 'stop it!'. The fact that u said that make me sick
I loved the art used in this, and the story was great. Wonderful work!
Sweet animation, though i never understood this fascination with pairing young boys with teen girls. I find it creepy, and if the genders were swapped, it would be considered unacceptable.
Yes... but my frend don't understand it rigth... (nasty)

Ann Helen Normann
Oh i see. Its ok. I heard Norway is pretty nice country. And I also heard people who live there keep polar bear, right?
blooduhz it's not just a guy thing. most girls i know including myself have fantasized about hot older men and ahem started touching themselves from an early age. I was about nine. That doesn't mean that the teenager should want to be with the kid though. That's what's creepy.

There is no such thing as the perfect skin tone crayon
I didn't think the video was playing at first so I turned the sound all the way up...... that one BEEP scared me to death!!!
So basically you shouldn't try to grow up so fast, it changes you
I don't understand how people could not get what's going on here; the message/content was pretty clear to me.
well I for one don't speak french, so I can only hazzard a guess at the message. I would but my guess is correct, but there might be some detail I'm missing, that was spoken, that changes the context of everything.

This is the story of a young boy who accidentally consumes some acid and... well you can find out the rest.
We have acid in our stomachs. First I thought he was bleeding out 0-0
Odalys Briseno 'We have acid in our stomachs'.
Haha, innocence.

very very very nice quality!!!!
That was cute in a weird sense.Love the endings it's kinda silly.
This shows us that we need to be humble with the things we have,
and even though we cant get the girl (thats obvious in this case),
that you should be happy for the love she does give you in freindship,
i love this. so sweet
She's babysitting the little boy and he has a crush on her.
It was an allegory. A moral story told through symbolism.
WTF were they diong under the blanket/quilt
WTF could they do in 10 seconds?
Isnt it obvious she was telling him to follow her/come out of the blanket in a playful way cause he IS a kid.... *cough*Dirty Minded*cough*
I think they're tickling each other then the boy has to catch the teen girl. Idk :/
oh
Haha exactly one year later, from when I made that comment.
It's almost like dipper and Wendy from gravity falls
Aww...that was so sweet :D
Thank you. I can read french, but not speak it at all. This was a big help.
thank you your awesome!
"Don't grow up too quickly, Gary"
"Stop, I don't want to, let go of me" the girl says to the drawn Gary and "You're going too fast, stop !" is what the little Gary tells the drawing.

Cute and nice art style! The message is pretty clear too... And usually I miss the messages in art! ;P
French is the most beautiful language...the language of LOVE
so good
To all those worrying that they don't speak french, you really don't need to know it to watch this. I just REALLY hope that wasn't the boy's sister, besides that it was a very cute animation :)

That was very enjoyable
i think its also about the innocence of youthful love and the absence of sexual motives, where just kissing that special person and being with them in that way is so exhilarating and wonderful...
C'est trop chooooooouw
"Don't grow up too fast Gary"
"O yeah? We'll see if I don't grow up"
